This is the royal monastery of the second grade; Rajvoramahavihara class, built in the Ayutthaya period, formerly called Wat Klangna. Later King Rama V ordered to use the area of monastery for royal ceremonies and funeral and establish Pali Vidhayalai called Maha Dhatu Vidhayalai and later moved Phra Pariyutti Dhamma examination from Wat Phra Kaew to here and ordered to build up ‘Sanggika Senatrajaviddhayalai’ to used in the royal funeral ceremony of crown prince Mahavachiroonhit. After that he dedicated to be the higher Dhamma school, given the name ‘Mahachulalongkorn Rajviddhayalai’. The construction came to complete in the reign of King Rama VI. And the royal funeral ceremony was moved to carry on at Wat Bovorn Sathansutthavart. He donated the royal treasures of Crown prince to renovate and gave the name ‘Wat Mahathat Yuwaratrangsarit]. Phra Sisanphet is the principle Buddha Image in Phra Ubosot. Furthermore this is home of international meditation center and the station of ‘Mahachulalongkorn Rajviddhayalai’ [MCU] under supervision of Sangha Order. Activities at each monastery [spending within thirty minutes] Pilgrims pay respect to the principle Buddha Image in Phra Ubosot [Buddhist Chapel] or ask for blessing with holy item. The Buddhist monk leads in chanting, taking meditation, tranquility development, preaches Dhamma and sprinkles holy water in Phra Ubosot. The Buddhist monk or the guide brings Pilgrims to look around monastery area, archaeological site, antiquities and holy item within monastery. Let’s pay respect to the Sacred Buddha Image of Temples.

Department of Religious Affairs hopes to motivate

the development process and managing the standard system

of touring the religious areas and the effective service what

make believe to tourists; Thai and foreigners, because temples

are the social capital called the national important source of

tourism and knowledge. Department of Religious Affairs makes up the example route

of merit-making suitable for persons having not much time and far trip. The department

surveys and coordinates temples and then sets a program named the route to pay respect

to the sacred Buddha Image of nine temples for expedience and welcome of Buddhists.

The mind development is supported to be peaceful by the practice worship [patipatti

puja] continuing the way of Buddhism and appreciating the value of Buddhism on

the colourful trip of merit-making and getting the power of Buddha. So the pilgrims really meet

the perfect happiness.

The preparation and participation of paying respect to the Sacred

Buddha Image of Nine Temples

To result perfectly from the merit-making; practice and material worship with good

and charitable mind and goodwill and compassion all travelers paying respect to the Sacred

Buddha Image of Nine Temples should behave As follows ;-

• Before leaving for paying respect to the Sacred Buddha Image of Nine temples

ones should prepare his body and purify one’s mind.

• Should wearing white dresses or not showy dresses.

• Should prepare offerings namely flower, scented stick, candle.

• Should invite member of family and neighbors to the trip making merit enhanced

the experience of life.

• While came to the temple should stay in calm manner.

• Should do activities as scheduled and should be on time.

The importance of monasteries what we pay respect to.

1. Wat Rajaborphit Sathitmahasimararm; Stable business. This is the royal monastery of the first grade;

Rajvoravihara class, built in the reign of King Rama V,

having Mahasima [big boundary stone] standing on in

eight sides meaning that a formal act [Sanghakam] can

perform everywhere within big boundary stone area

without limit only in Phra Ubosot. And there are

Phra Buddha Anggirot made of gold and Phra Nirantarai.

The Royal Tombs is located here.

2. Wat Sudat Debavarararm; Far vision and being charming to the public. This is the royal monastery of the first grade;

Rajvoramahavihara class, what the King Rama I ordered

to build up in B.E.2350 and to build Phra vihara [Buddhist

Image hall] to house Phra Sisakayamuni [Phra To] brought from

Wat Mahadhat, Sukhothai province. The King Rama IV gave

the rhyme name of principle Buddha Image in Phravihara

[shrine hall], Phra Ubosot and the study hall as ‘Phra

Sisakayamuni’ Phra Buddha Trilokachet and ‘Phra Buddha

Setthamuni’. The Phra Ubosot is the longest in Thailand here.

3. Wat Rajanaddararm; Healthy and happiness. This is the royal monastery of the third grade;

voravihara class, what the King Rama III built up

in honour of prince grandchild Somanas Vatthanavadi.

The first and only one metallic castle in Thailand is

located here and regarded

as the third one in the

world. It is very beautiful.

The Holy relics is kept at

the top of this castle.

Magha Puja: the full moon day of the third lunar month. The Enlightened One preach

Ovadapatimokkha [the Principle Teaching]; the heart of Buddhism with the purpose for

coexistence of the mankind living together with pure love, non-harming each other by

body or words, well- behavior, moderate consumption and sufficiency, peaceful life, mind

development, self-protection and the leadership in bringing the society out of distresses.

In this holy day Department of Religious Affair, Ministry of Culture has set up Buddhist

activities in both the central part at the Sanam Luang ceremonial ground, Wat Park Nam,

Wat Yanava,Wat Trimitra Vidyaram, Wat Sra Ket,Wat Pathumvanaram and in the provincial

part in joining-hand with Sangha Order, the Buddhist Organization Network, private and

public sectors and Office of provincial Culture over country.

So with the most pleasure to invite Buddhist to play the role of succeeding Buddhism

by conducting Ovadapatimokkha doctrine; to cease from all evils, to do what is good, to

purify one’s mind, wearing pure white dresses, giving Bhikkhus alms, chanting, observing

precepts, practicing Dhamma and candlelight procession and participating Buddhist activities

for the Buddha-worship and happiness oneself, family and society.

One of policy activities of Department of Religious Affairs join with Bangkok Mass

Transit Authority, Pongsawadi Technological College is set up in the function of Buddhism

promotion week 2557 during 10th-14th February 2557 at Sanam Luang ceremonial ground

namely to pay respect to the sacred Buddha Image of nine temples…merit making..happiness..

under the tourism promotion project; the route of merit making in religious dimension, 2557

annual year consisting of trip route; land and water, the pilot project of first year focus on

promoting tourism in religious dimension in parallel with supporting the mind development

because of realizing Thailand to be Buddhism. Thai believe and trust in doing what is good

that is to recollect the benevolence of Triple Gems;Buddha,Dhamma and Sangha. Paying

respect to the sacred Buddha Image is the popular activity of Buddhists what is policy

activities of Department of Religious Affairs for encouraging all parts of society; private

and public to realize the importance and come to participate this activities more and

more, to push forward in bringing the cultural capital to develop the competitive ability of

nation especially tourism and then to arouse them to trust and believe Buddhism, to apply

the doctrine in living their lives and being happy in charity and generosity.

4. Wat Sraket; Enhancing goodwill thought. This is the royal monastery of the second

grade; Rajvoramahavihara class, built in Ayutthaya period,

regarded as important monastery in Thai history and of

The Chakri Dynasty. The King Rama I donated royal

treasures to restore and build up permanent things, Sangha

lodgings namely

Boromabanpot or

the golden mountain, Luang Por Dusit, small

pavilions surrounding eight sides what is so very

beautiful that Somdech Phramaha Samanachao

Kramphraya Vachirayan Varorot praised as

the model of monasteries.

5. Wat Bovornnives; Meeting very good things in life and strong health. This is the royal monastery of the first grade;

Rajvoravihara class, built in the reign of King Rama III

by the viceroy; Mahasukdipolseb, styled in Thai mixed

Chinese art, that is important; Sangha Order and nation

and originated Sangha Order named Dhammayutikanikaya

and Mahamakut Rajaviddhalaya. There are the important

Buddha Image here namely Phra Buddha Chinnasi

and Phra Sisartsada made by Phra Mahadhammaraja

Lithai. Two kings Ordaining

stayed here. Furthermore

this monastery was ever

educational headquarter

of provinces regarded as laying a basis of Thai primary

education and the residence of the supreme patriarch;

Somdech Phrayanasangvon.

long time ago and ever being house of Phra Kaew Morakot

brought from Vientiane in B.E.2322 before moving to be kelp at

the Emerald monastery. Later prince Itsarasoonthorn restored

it and renamed as ‘Wat Aroonrajvarararm’. In the reign of King

Rama III, he ordered strengthening the stupa and in the reign of

King Rama IV, he ordered renovating many things and had brought

the royal bone ash of King Rama II to be kept at the platform

seat of principle Buddha Image in Phra Ubosoth and called this

as ‘Wat AroonRajvarararm’ being regarded as the temple of King

Rama II. Phra Buddha Dhammisaraj Lokadhatudilok; the principle Buddha image, of which

King Rama II himself sculptured the face is placed here. Furthermore the Wat Aroonstupa

and Mandapa [pavilion] are also seen.

6. Wat Raghang Ghositararm: Well-known and popular as Bell sound. This is the royal monastery of the second grade;

Voramahavihara class, formerly called Wat Bangvayai, built

in the Ayutthaya period concomitant of Wat Bangvanoi;

Wat Amarindrararm, having had the big restoration in

the reign of King Rama I, having found the ancient bell

resounded beautifully from the excavation. Later he ordered

bringing it to be kept at Wat Phra Sirattana Sasadararm [the Emerald temple], building up

the bell tower and four bells and called the new name ‘Wat Raghang Ghositararm’.

Furthermore there are Luang Por Yim Rubfa [smiling Buddha Image], the principle Buddha Image

in Phra Ubosot, the bell tower, the supreme patriarch vihara, Tripitaka Hall [red palace];

adjacent three palaces being very beautiful.

7. Wat Amarindrararm; INDRA God bless the safety from all calamity. This is the royal monastery of the third grade;

Voravihara class, built in about B.E.2200. Later in

the reign of King Rama I the viceroy ordered reconstructing

the temple and built

up Phra Ubosot [Buddhist

chapel], Vihara[shrine-hall],

the defensive wall, small pavilions, bell tower and so on and

the King Rama I gave the new name ‘Wat Amarindravas’.

It is believed that who come to pay respect to the Buddha

Image here ‘Indrabless the safety from all calamities’.

You will see Luang Por Botnoi [Buddha Image in the small

chapel]; sacred Buddha Image, dated from Battle for Eastern

Asia because this temple was near the railway station when being bombarded everything

was badly damaged but Luang Por Botnoi and a pavilion housed the footprint of the Buddha.

So people like to come worshiping and asking for blessing.

8. Wat Rajadhivas; The great satisfaction as the King. This is the royal monastery of the second grade; Voravihara

class, formerly named WatSamorai where the King Rama IV had

ever lived while being a monk,

9. Wat Devarajkunchorn; The fortune from deity, mighty and strength and progress. This is the royal monastery of the third grade;

Voravihara class, formerly the private monastery; built

in the Ayutthaya period, originally known as ‘Samorklaeng’.

Later being restored by prince Kromaluang Phitakmontri

[primogenitor of Montrikula] prince Phitaktheves [primogenitor

of Koonjornna Ayutthaya]; son of King Rama II. Later King

Rama IV had given the new name

‘Wat Devarajkunchorn’ what has

big PhraUbosot and the principle Buddha Image in Phra Ubosot

made of metal lacquered and gilded by craftsmanship

in Dvaravati given the name ‘Phra Buddhadevaraja Patimakorn’

by his majesty the King Phumiphol. Buddhists like to come

giving the triple robe in place of incense stick and candle for

success. This is the first monastery in Thailand to provide

the triple robe as the offerings and Buddhists do until now.

Magha Puja 2557; the Buddhist holy day.

The day of pure love for the mankind.

Magha Puja: the full moon day of the third lunar month. The Enlightened One preach

Ovadapatimokkha [the Principle Teaching]; the heart of Buddhism with the purpose for

coexistence of the mankind living together with pure love, non-harming each other by

body or words, well- behavior, moderate consumption and sufficiency, peaceful life, mind

development, self-protection and the leadership in bringing the society out of distresses.

In this holy day Department of Religious Affair, Ministry of Culture has set up Buddhist

activities in both the central part at the Sanam Luang ceremonial ground, Wat Park Nam,

Wat Yanava,Wat Trimitra Vidyaram, Wat Sra Ket,Wat Pathumvanaram and in the provincial

part in joining-hand with Sangha Order, the Buddhist Organization Network, private and

public sectors and Office of provincial Culture over country.

So with the most pleasure to invite Buddhist to play the role of succeeding Buddhism

by conducting Ovadapatimokkha doctrine; to cease from all evils, to do what is good, to

purify one’s mind, wearing pure white dresses, giving Bhikkhus alms, chanting, observing

precepts, practicing Dhamma and candlelight procession and participating Buddhist activities

for the Buddha-worship and happiness oneself, family and society.

During this Magha Puja festival on 10th-14

th, 2557 the Department of Religious Affairs;

Ministry of Culture joint with Marine Department and Siam Business Administration College

of Technology are very pleased to invite Buddhists to cruise making merit and paying

respect to the sacred Buddha Image of nine temples in Bangkok. The new atmosphere

will be seen in the cruise in the Chao Phraya river while dropping to pay respect to

the sacred Buddha Image of several temples at the bank of that said river. You will see

the way of Buddha; the way of ancient Thai, return back to the past of community way

of life at the bank, take a look over a beautiful scenery together with worshiping holy

things, visiting archaeological sites of historical ancient temples and studying the important

history of temples for the best of luck. You will both make merit and be happy fulfilling

happiness to bright life.

The cruise to pay respect to the sacred Buddha Image of Nine Temples is one of policy

activities of Department of Religious Affairs in encouraging all parts of society; private and

public sector, to know the importance of and participate this activity pushing on taking

the cultural heritage to develop the competitiveness; particularly tourism. Furthermore, the

project motivates people to respect Buddhism as the fundamental tool of their living life.

Department of Religious Affairs hopes to motivate the development process and system of

the international standard of religious tourism. Moreover, there

is the effective service that makes belief to tourists both Thai

and foreigners.The temple itself, as the social capital, is alsothe

important tourist and learning national resource. Department

of Religious Affairs makes up the cruise suitable trip of merit-

making for persons who do not have much time for the long trip

under the B.E.2557 Project of Merit Travelling Lines Promotion

in the Religious Dimension. The department surveys and coordinates temples and then sets

a program named The cruise to pay respect to the Sacred Buddha Image of Nine Temples

for expedience and welcome of Buddhists. So doing is to support the development of mind

to be peaceful by the practice worship[patipatti puja] continuing the way of Buddhism

and appreciating the value of Buddhism on the colourful trip of merit-making and getting

the power of Buddha. So the pilgrims really meet the perfect happiness.

The preparation and participation of paying respect to the Sacred

Buddha Image of Nine Temples

To result perfectly from the merit-making; practice and material worship with good

and charitable mind and goodwill and compassion all travelers paying respect to the Sacred

Buddha Image of Nine Temples should behave As follows ;-

• Before leaving for paying respect to the sacred Buddha Image of nine temples ones

should prepare his body and purify one’s mind.

• Should wearing white dresses or not showy dresses.

• Should prepare offerings namely flower, scented stick, candle.

• Should invite member of family and neighbors to the trip making merit enhanced

the experience of life.

• While came to the temple should stay in calm manner.

• Should do activities as scheduled and should be on time.

The importance of temples which we will pay respect to.

1. Wat Bookkalo; Given the business prosperity This is very old and Buddhist valuable,

over two hundred thirty years old, built in Ayutthaya

period B.E. 2310, later having a big restoration in

the reign of the King Rama IV by princess Ubolvanna,

so called in the new name Wat Ubolvan, but villagers

popularly call it in the former name as Wat Bookkalo.

The sacred Buddha Image placed here have the most interesting history and are sacrosanct

namely Luang Por Pea floating on the raft, going around in front

of the temple for several days. Villagers had respectfully brought

LuangPor to place here and liked to come asking for prosperity in

trade. Furthermore there are Phra Buddha Pradan Porn [Blessing

Buddha Image], Phra Buddha Jinnaraj, Luang Por Buddha Sodhorn,

Luang Por Wat Raikhing, Phra Sivali Mahalarb, Phra Sangkaccayana.

A million fish dwell here generally named Vang Maccha suitable

to bring children for relaxation and to soften one’s mind.

2. Wat Rajsingkhon: Worship for luck and meeting what one wish. This is the royal temple of the third grade; the common

class, built in Ayutthaya period in the reign of His Majesty

the King Boromakot [B.E.2275-2301]. In the reign of the King Rama I

the viceroy; Krom Phrarajawangbovorn Mahasurasinghanart,

ordered the royal technicians of viceroy to build the Buddhist

church [Phra Ubosot] what is the place of the golden principle

Buddha Image worshiped very much in devil subduing gesture and

Ayutthaya and Sukhothai art called “Luangpor Deang” brought from Ayutthaya by the Chao

Phraya river before the city broken. While nearly came to the temple the stream flowed

rapidly and broke the raft. Luang Por Deang submerged

at the side opposite to Wat Rajsingkhon. Furthermore

Luang Por Catugarm and Holy relics are placed here

what people come to worship. This Wat is well known

in name of project ‘to instruct the Dhamma practice

to Upasika Kaew [Gem female devotee]’.

3. Wat Yannava; Given the business prosperity and success in negotiation. This is the royal monastery

of the third grade; common class, built

in Ayutthaya period, formerly known as

Wat Khok Khai, in the Thonburi period

elevated in the status as the royal monastery and called Wat Khok Kabue in the new name.

Later the King Rama I ordered building a new Phra Ubosot and the King Rama III ordered

to restore and built up the junk jetiya in place. The stupas are sightly and unique in order

that descendants which the form of junk fading away from Thailand and recalling Dhamma

in Vessantarajataka wanted the monastery to have a vehicle as junk for bringing teachable

persons out of the continuing rebirth, called Wat Yannava. Most importantly, here there

are the royal bed of King Rama III, the foot print of Buddha, the Holy relics coming from

eight countries, holy tooth of Buddha brought from Wat Phra Dhatu Kheawkaew, Candy

of Cylon, Bodhisattva Quan Yin with three gestures in one namely wisdom, mercy and

peaceful gesture carved by Chinese carver of Fine Arts Department from white jade in

whole body. This is the first in the world.

4. Wat Kallayanamitra; Safety in journey, friendly persons and prosperous trade. This is the royal monastery of the second grade;

Voramahavihara class, that Chao Phraya Nikornbodindra

[To Kallayanamitr] donated house and land to build up in B.E.

2368 and the presented it to the King Rama III. The King named

it Wat Kallayanamitr and ordered to build the royal Viahara

and the principle Buddha Image namely Luang Por To or

Phra Trairattananayok being the most respectable of Chinese

who call the name of this Buddha Image Samporhoodkong

or Samporkong. Inside the royal vihara decorated with

Mural paintings which are of cultural and historical value.

Furthermore there is Phra Dhamma Monthien in honour which

is the storage of Tripitaka in reign of the King Rama IV.

5. Wat Aroonrajvarararm; Life with smooth, peace and prosperity in everyday. This is the royal monastery of the first grade;

Rajvoramahavihara class, well known generally as Wat Chaeng,

built in the Ayutthaya kingdom, formerly called WatMakok

and later renamed Makoknok because there had built up Makokni
