Lee was the first white man to settle in Metcalfe County. Crossing from Virginia he settled on the hill above the Gay Spring near Knob Lick where he built a wigwam. He raised his family on this spot as did his son, James G. Lee who raised 12 children there. Some of his descendants are Bud, Buck, Charlie, Andy, and Jerry Lee, all of Knob Lick. 50 Years Ago A new U.S. Postal Service Program will extend home mail delivery to 19,178 Kentucky families primarily in communities the size of Edmonton and Summer Shade for the first time. Persons living more than a quarter-mile but less than a half-mile from the post office are now eligible to receive home mail delivery. 40 Years Ago The Metcalfe County FHA Chapter is celebrating Na- tional Future Homemakers of American Week (Feb. 11-15) the entire month with a fundraising drive for the Kentucky Heart Association. 30 Years Ago A robbery occurred at Bells Sales and Service some- time Thursday night. Over $3,000 in new chain saws were stolen from the site. Entrance to the facility was gained by breaking out the front door glass. 20 Years Ago A resolution renaming the Cumberland Parkway in honor of former Governor Louie B. Nunn unan- imously passed the Kentucky Senate and now is on its way to the Kentucky House of Representatives for discussion and approval. 10 Years Ago The Barren-Metcalfe County 911 has purchased a reverse 911 system.
