It is going to be another actioned packed weekend of MPNFL football and netball.

Things are really heating up in the Nepean Division after the completion of Round 11 last weekend. 8 points is all that separates Frankston who sits on top with 32 points and Dromana

who sits 8th on 24 points. It is easy to say that over the next 5 rounds that every goal, point, meters gained, tackle, smother, 2nd eort, 3rd eort and even a 4th eort may be the dierence between clubs making nals or just missing out. We love the close nature of our game and really enjoy the fact that any team can win on any given day, and whilst clubs would rather be in more comfortable positions it is these games that will bring big crowds, which is fantastic for local football.

In Peninsula everything seems to be moving along nicely and at least the top 5 90% locked in with nal positions still yet to be determined. Seaford still and outside chance maybe the draw with the Bulls earlier this year may cost them a nal place in the end.

In both competitions the netball looks to have the top 2 sides conrmed in both leagues with 3rd and 4th spots still on the line. The next few week we should see some clarity on who will make nals, which will lead to a high quality netball being played whilst teams try to take the last few spots for nals.

Also a big congratulations to our players who participated in the Vic Metro v Vic Country matches on Sunday. In the seniors our Vic Country boys were victorious by the time the nal siren sounded by 39 points, whilst the Under 19’s had a great start to the day with a 44 point victory over the VAFA under 19’s side.

Best of luck to all team’s competing this weekend.

Vic Country reclaims bragging rights The boys from the bush reigned supreme over their Metropolitan counterparts in the AFL Victoria Under 19 Challenge and AFL Victoria Community Cup at Mernda on Sunday.

WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country reclaimed community football bragging rights after toppling Vic Metro by 39 points, while the Energy Safe Under 19s team defeated the Victoria Amateur Football Association (VAFA) by 44 points.

Electing to kick with the wind in the opening term proved fruitful for the senior Vic Country outt, winning the ball in the middle of the ground and creating options up forward.

Albury’s Brayden O’Hara was dynamic in the square for Vic Country booting three majors, while teammates Chris Ryan and Tim Bongetti chimed in with two goals each.

Golden Square’s Thomas Tona and the high-ying Ben Monkhorst caused headaches for their opponents all day, while Campbell Floyd’s pressure around the packs allowed his side to go into half time with a 29-point lead.

With the game on the line, Vic Metro gained some much needed momentum in the opening minutes of the nal term, with Jase Perkins, Dan Castellano and Dan McLinden ring back with three quick goals.

However, Vic Country’s delivery of the ball and ability to mop up in defence was critical in the fourth term, kicking away to win 12.17 (89) to 7.8 (50).

Coaching Vic Country for the nal time, Peter Knights said it was a tting end to his time at the helm.

“The boys were terric all day,” Knights said. “The commitment, camaraderie and eort they put in over the last six weeks at training has really paid o and allowed them to reap the reward for it.

“The conditions made it hard out there at times, but their skill level was very good and they represented their clubs and regions extremely well.

“It was a nice way to go out today; the time was right for

me to hang up the boots. I’ve had a great innings with Vic Country and a great opportunity to work with so many fantastic people and it’s something I have thoroughly enjoyed and will cherish for a long time.”

Damian Sexton’s Energy Safe Under 19 team continued its successful Big-V form, chalking up back-to-back wins over a competitive VAFA outt, 16.11 (107) to 10.3 (63).

Donald’s Sam Dunstan was unstoppable in the forward 50, providing a strong target and slotting three majors.

Despite the eorts of VAFA stars Lachlan Byrne-Jones, Alex Mastromanno and best-on-ground Harry Hills, Vic Country’s forward pressure and ball use around the stoppages proved too strong.

Vic Country’s Paddy Anderson was vital in his role across centre-half forward and was well supported by teammates Jake Kelly, Matt Shannon and Zach Pallpratt.

Bendigo Community Bank Footy Preview

On the line for SharksBy Toe Punt

A couple of outstanding games in MPNFL Nepean Division today as we begin the downhill slope of the 2016 home and away season.Sorrento playing host to Dromana in their nal home game of the season is just so important for the Sharks.Whilst Rosebud and Hastings is a top ve clash and the match of the round, I can’t help but think there will be greater interest in what is happening further south. The Sharks were exposed last week against Somerville and they of course lost to Dromana at the beginning of the season, who exposed them in similar areas to the Eagles. The Eagles’ run and spread unsettled the Sharks and they were given free ride to use the corridor. The loss highlighted a number of issues that Sorrento appear to have.Generally, the Sharks look good when they have possession of the footy. It’s when they don’t have it that is of real concern. The Sharks have always had a reputation of not being a great defensive team but this has always been masked with potency from half back and a forward line that had Ben Schwarze, Myles Pitt and Leigh Poholke to name a few. They had the likes of Scott Cameron dominating everyone in the middle and names including Jon Croad, Chris Bagot, Troy Schwarze and Daniel Grant all defending and providing enormous run and drive.None of those eight players are there anymore and the expectation is on the next group of players to step-up and ll the void.On occasions, they have done exactly that. Like Frankston three weeks ago when they blew the Bombers away.Consistency is key though – drinking your own bath water in this competition is dangerous.Players always look like they lack a yard when they

haven’t got the footy and some of the ‘more experienced’ Sorrento players in the line-up looked like the modern game had caught up with them – maybe even past them. When your best players and leaders are not setting the right example or setting up structures when defending, then they have to take responsibility for that too.The kids are leading the way – Gladman, Stephenson, Ferguson, Byrns and co – they shouldn’t be! Ryan Potter is one that everyone should look and try and emulate – he plays like every game may be his last. There’s no superstars on every line that will cover your behind if you don’t get it right anymore – those days are gone.I think the Sorrento of today needs to understand that the honeymoon or dynasty is over – they are back with the rest of the competition. Getting back to that level comes down to commitment, hard work and selessness.I think they also need to understand that coach Nick Jewell won’t nurse them through because of their name or reputation – Nick is a proud man, a premiership coach and someone who has been put in charge of a powerful club to win silverware. He is blessed with enormous talent at Under 19 level and even lower. He used the kids at Rosebud and it paid dividends – 12 months later they were premiership players and some of them stars of the competition. The players, all of them, especially the senior guys, need to set the example and lead the way – in all areas. It’s line in the sand time at Shark Park.Dromana is a young, condent, in your face young team that has wonderful experience around them. They are on a roll. They still think they are an outside chance of playing nals and whilst this is the mindset, they are dangerous.Dromana has already beaten the Sharks once this season and will fancy their chances to do it again.Beware of the sleeping tiger!ROSEBUD plays host to HASTINGS in another very critical game in the context of the season.

Bendigo Community BankThe Blues were superb last week in the opening term before Red Hill smashed them in the next three quarters.Hastings was opened-up with quick ball movement, something that happened against Somerville also.Rosebud has answered every challenge this season and must be congratulated.I’ve stated it before but to lose the calibre of players they did during the o-season and still be performing the way they have, is a credit to the leadership at the club.It would be unfair to single out the leaders because there are so many of them on every line. The kids have great talent and many of them are playing senior footy for the third and even fourth year, after they were given a taste early in their careers.Rosebud is a hard working, honest side – it played poorly against Frankston a few weeks ago but still didn’t get blown away. The Buds haven’t lost at home this season – that’s got to be a worry for Hastings, who are starring down the barrel of two straight losses.DEVON MEADOWS would love nothing more than to make life dicult for clubs looking to play nals.It wouldn’t sit well with coach Glenn Michie and his charges that they are being dismissed in the context of the season – once again, they have become irrelevant. The only way the Meadows can become relevant again is to win games of footy and put a dent in others’ nals aspirations. They have the opportunity today, hosting RYE at their den.

The Demons have been superb in the past month and everyone is contributing, which was what was missing when they went through a bad patch.Rye should win because there’s more on the line.FRANKSTON BOMBERS host TYABB. The Bombers have a very easy stretch in comparison to other sides and absolutely must not fall into the trap of dropping intensity. We have seen other teams in the past with soft draws fall over at the business end because they haven’t been challenged in the lead-up. They need to set themselves high goals so they continue to set benchmarks. The Yabbies will come to play.SOMERVILLE was superb last week against Sorrento but must back it up today against PEARCEDALE.The Eagles are still outside of the top bracket, however, a win today will push them back inside.Pearcedale is not a happy hunting ground for the Eagles. They simply must be switched on.In the nal game, RED HILL needs to back-up against CRIB POINT.The Hillmen were sensational last week – the club should be so very proud of itself. It doesn’t have the superstars of the other clubs but what it has is a whole bunch of good players who consistency perform for one another and club pride each week.Like Devon Meadows, Crib Point would love nothing more than the satisfaction of ending a club’s nals’ run.

Club NotesRye DemonsGreat news to see Matt Greig back a few weeks earlier than we thought, but it was Pinna Henley with 6 majors that stole the limelight last week. Ben Winters-Kerr also was a huge headache for the Pearcedale backs. Ryan Mullett continued his mideld domination, while Jacky “Boy” Nisbet was sensational in the ruck. Matt Dunn and Brady “The Rookie” Egan had good games as well. As Josh said after the game, that’s another box ticked, and we need to tick another today against Devon Meadows. Lets get on that roll. The reserves are starting to string some good football games together and have a very important 3-week block of games coming up, starting today. Lets build and get a top 3 spot in the nals. Great to see Bupa Gileno in the goals with 6, Toby “Milky” Woodford and Daniel Cimino ghting for BOG honours. Schwindy, Doogie Howie, Scott “I’m Back” Shea, and Tim Mazurek all played good games. The Under 19’s were well undermanned but again tried hard all day, keep working boys, a win may be just around the corner. Good games from Nath Seddon, “Booga” Papalia, Bobby Cameron, Mitchy Dunn, Cowboy and Big Linton. The massive “Your Choice” rae is under way, so please get your tickets from any player or committee person. $35,000 rst prize and 5 prizes of $1,000. Drawn at the Clubrooms on Sunday October 16, drinks and meal provided to all ticket holders. $100 per ticket, only 800 available.

Dromana TigersThe sponsors for today’s Round 12 clash against Sorrento are McMillan Real Estate and Milemaker Petroleum..The last round before the Split Round Bye saw us play Devon Meadows in what turned out to be a good day with three wins. The inclusion of four U17s into the U19s team enabled us to eld a full team. After a slow start Dromana hit the front in the 2nd term and never looked back. The Reserves lead all day to record a 27 point win in a great team display. After a close rst half Dromana Seniors lead by 24 points at the last break by Devon Meadows kicking to the ‘scoring’ end hit back in the last term but a 7goal to 4 goal last quarter wasn’t enough and Dromana held on by 4 points to record their third straight win and are only one and a half wins out of the ve.A win today is vital to keep our nals chances alive so go get them Tigers.DAY AT THE DOGS Sunday 17th July. Club Championship Day at Sandown Greyhounds. Bus from Dromana and return, nger food plus $10 betting ticket. Red Hill HillmenEvery week, you pretend you’re a concession student, pay your $6 entry and ick to pg 69 of the record to see what sort of porridge has been regurgitated to make up the 1500 characters that ensure we aren’t ned for “lack of participation.” Sometimes we make jokes; like “how come that guy who walked out on us where’s a glove?” Or “If he’s able to kick 5 goals and get BOG in The Colts, why couldn’t he sneak a point On The Hill?” … And sometimes we present facts; like “If #Tits4Dalts is still trending worldwide, why hasn’t Tits got a game yet? It’s not like the McGloven ever trained?” Where am I going with this? Your guess is as good as mine… In football news, The Gilmore Girls welcomed back The Blonde Bombshell – can’t see his name in the best though so he obviously didn’t do much. The other 21? All super inuential in another 100pt victory. It was touch and go for Captain Courageous in the 2’s with what many were calling a potentially season ending knee injury putting him in doubt for an unheard of 8th consecutive game. But as we know, Ryan Blake’s can y, and with the right preparation (no training), he led from behind. Cracking wins for both the Reserves & Seniors. – Farewell Irish!

Bendigo Community Bank Club NotesSomerville EaglesDown at Pearcedale today and once again it is an important game for all our grades. The season is so tight across all 3 levels, the club cant aord to have a slip up. Last week saw 1986 premiership team reunion and a wonderful day was had by all. It was great to see the faces down the club again and even better to see some of the players kicking on till 9.30pm! Well done to Mark Hale and co for creating such a wonderful day. Cant wait for the 35th! On the footy side the U19s and reserves came up very short. This is probably not a reection of eort but more a reection of a lack of numbers at the moment. The U19s required U17s to play and the reserves are naming a number of players who don’t train at all or U19s are doubling up playing. Last count had 15 senior players unavailable for various reasons, so hopefully we start to get a few back this week so the depth returns to the club. The seniors came out inspired and probably played their best game of year. Previously down on form they didn’t disappoint on the special occasion and other than some poor kicking for goal in the rst half, the result could have been decided earlier. Special mention to Jedd Sutton in his 100th game for the club and great display kicking 5 goals! The Beyond Blue in the afternoon was also a huge success, and thanks Liv and co for making an eort towards a great cause. Don’t forget the Hypnotist on July 23rd and then Ladies Lunch on July 30th - Go Eagles Elwin Snr

Rosebud BudsToday we host Hastings whom we warmly welcome as we start our “run up to the nals campaign”. With the byes behind us and 5 games remaining (3 home/2 away) nals competitiveness will be determined by these games that include Sorrento and Rye. Hastings presents as but one of the possible hurdles to be taken down. They certainly did a job on us earlier in the year – one of our senior teams biggest whacks for a very long time. Since that game our club has worked very hard to set ourselves up as a very dierent opponent. Two weeks ago our footy teams put up a very strong showing at Tyabb. Our coaches were very pleased, as all three teams really played out their respective games, not always the case against poorer performing teams when overcondent outcomes are anticipated ahead of required work rates. . The senior team again combined its youth and experience lead by the evergreen “Spoons” and captain inspiration GB. Keegan (7 majors), Big Time, Stevo and Wilo were fantastic. The Development Team by nature featured very strong games by Fish, Mewy, Jonesy, Bosy, Kano and Lucky. For the Unders it was great to see Trav get a bag (7) strongly supported by Adam, Izaac, Jamie, Jake and Brice. After next week’s game against Rye we are gathering at the Rosebud Hotel for awards – make sure you get there. Go Buds!

Sorrento SharksLast week we headed out to the ground where our 2015 season ended to take on Somerville who have not been able to consistently perform as well as they did last year. The day started pretty well, with our Under 19s putting in a bit of a lackluster performance, but still doing enough to get the four points. The Reserves then came out in what was another must win game for them and managed to keep their season alive with another really great team performance. The boys have showed over the last three weeks that there is certainly a lot more ght left in them this year. Unfortunately, in the nal game of the day, the Seniors were outplayed by Somerville who managed to run away with a ve goal win. It was another really disappointing win for the Sharks who now nd themselves ghting to keep their season alive. On a more positive note, Brent “Stix” Kenyon achieved a fantastic milestone last week as he equalled the Sorrento Sharks record for most Senior games held by Bernie Lynch as he pulled on the Sharks guernsey for the 262nd time in the Seniors. Congratulations Stix!!!This week we head back to Shark Park to take on Dromana in what is set to be a really crucial round for the Sharks. We’ve had many a great battle against the Tigers in recent times and we know for sure that, no matter where the teams are on the ladder, there’s always a bit of extra re in the belly when they meet. Let’s hope our boys bounce back from last week and rise to the challenge! Go Sharks!

Devon Meadows PanthersLets look at some positives – in the next 4 weeks we’ve got 3 home games and an away trip to Pearcedale. How good is that?? You’ll be saving on petrol money, spending more time (and money) at the bar and less time (and money) in the car. It’s a beautiful thing. Never mind the last round trip to Rosebud, the weather will be getting warmer by then so we’ll just pack our speedo’s and hit the beach after the game. It’s way better than Rye’s beach. Onto footy - It’s been a tough year results-wise for our 3rds but the group has stuck together and today looks like a decent opportunity to gain some momentum with winnable games coming up in the next few rounds. The senior sides have been absolutely decimated by injuries this year – there’s no other way to describe it. Even then, our best has still been good enough to match it with the better sides in the comp. Looking forward to a strong nish to the season as the character that has been built this year will hold us in good stead for many years to come. Some notable recent milestones – Ash Adams played his 100th senior game last week along with our reigning B&F Patty Harmes who also played his 100th. Congratulations to you both, we appreciate your fantastic eorts representing our club with pride. Just also wanted to touch on Beau Miller – news has come through at time of writing these notes that Beau could soon be facing the worst possible outcome of his ght with cancer. It goes without saying that everyone at the club is thinking of Beau and his family at this time. Our ngers are crossed for a miracle. Upcoming Functions – TONIGHT - IPOD / Onesie Night - $10 per song with the last song played on the night winning a great prize. Drink Specials and cracking tunes all night long.. Saturday 1st October 14th Annual Devon Meadows Grand Final Breakfast. Secure your tables (of 10) fast. This is always a sell-out. $100 a ticket gets you a continental or hot breakfast, unlimited beer, wine, OJ & soft drink, Giveaways such as Wine, stubbie holders, mugs etc Come on Meadows!!

Hastings BluesToday we travel to Rosebud FNC for what looms as a massive test for our club for which we will absolutely embrace. Tonight we will be heading back to the club to support the wonderful Carly Jackson who is suering a rare form of cancer GET YOUR WIG ON Cost $10 Single or $15 Couple starts at 7.00 pm, photo booth, and band in attendance, all funds raised will go towards Carly and her three boys. Last Saturday saw the boys in the seniors play some fabulous football in the opening term, to only fall away badly after the break this week we must come to play the same footy that has got us to where we are currently sitting, the club is right behind. Our reserves are not playing badly, today they just need to play there brand of footy tough uncompromising and the result will take care of itself, Our under 19s came back to earth on Saturday, but it certainly wasn’t because of lack of eort, good luck today boys. Upcoming Functions: Past Player

Tyabb YabbiesSeniors: After 5 good nights on the track since our last game,we are o to Bomber Land today to tackle the in form Bombers and I know our boys are really looking forward to the challenge. Pagga and his line coaches have really focused the players in on our nal block of games this season.Whilst we are still striving for that elusive four points, there has been signicant improvement in the playing group, while the belief and resilience within the group has been outstanding. You get the feeling that the run home is going to be an exciting ride to be on.Reserves: We came up against the top side on the ladder so we had to be switched on and ready and with some experience coming back into the side and J.J. playing his rst game for the year, there was a positive attitude amongst the group. With ve minutes left in the second quarter,we were in touch and playing well. However from that moment on,it was all Rosebud who showed why they are in the position they are. It ended in the poorest result for the season and it certainly won’t be repeated as we look forward to the remainder of the season Great eorts from Virg and Corey.

Crib Point MagpiesAlways good to have a week o to recharge and it was certainly needed after the hiding the seniors received and one point loss for the ressies. The 19s on the other hand are ying and are heading toward nals football with Barn having them in top shape heading into the business end of the season. Unfortunately for the seniors it’s a familiar tale with both teams having seasons to forget and are really only playing for personal pride in the remaining games. Today we go back to where we started with Red Hill at their digs. Of all the weeks the weatherman forecast snow we happen to play Red Hill at Red Hill!!! Last time it snowed in a game of football for Crib Point, Glen Barclay made his senior debut and a young and spritely John Martin kicked 7 on the wing in one of cribs greatest wins. Maybe it’s an omen?Tonight after defrosting its o to Main Street Mornington for Crib Point’s night of nights at the Black and White Ball. Get around it and let your hair down in what is always a ripper night.

Frankston BombersTo some the OC is a teen drama sensation screened on Fox, but not here at Bombers HQ where we have our own OC sensation. It started with the large presence of our new Vice President, gained momentum when Danielle attended Ladies Day, reached fever pitch when a half back returned to the fold & when Bill pulls on the white pants it is ocially Bombers OC season. The O’Carroll’s are a legendry Frankston Bombers family and our Club is most certainly a better place with them aboard.Entertainment royalty has been announced for the Businessman’s Lunch on Friday August 5th with the great man Rex Hunt, the headliner supported by impressionist Andrew Startin & comedian Dave Waylen. There will be stories from Rex’s playing days at Richmond, Geelong & St Kilda, police tales, shing yarns and laughs from his times as an original star media performer. Throw in the Footy Shows Andrew Startin, host Dave Walen, great food, a few drinks & great company and the legendary day may well have its best chapter ever. Batty has the tickets, but grab them quickly as the lunch is always a sell out.Go Bombers.

The Meticulous Man In White…In a time in which an abnormal number of AFL players are cracking the magical 300 mark, this week marks the 400th SUA Senior Game of one of the association’s n-est, Rohan David. A man who’s never been afraid to get his hands dirty either on or o the eld, Rohan has been given his all to the association. His commitments o the eld and accolades on eld are proof of this.Schooled in the yester year, Rohan began his umpiring long before the majority of today’s players when lying in cots. The career that started back in 1982 and in the seniors in 1983 when games were run one-out, bouncing was the norm (not a fossilised relic of day gone by - refer-ring to bouncing here not Rohan himself...or at least we think) and there was no such thing as the “order-o” rule. Back then Rohan was umpiring the fathers of some of to-day’s current day players. In a career (that mind you still has plenty more chapters) including stints at the VFL between 1986 and 1995 where Rohan ociated in 25 VFL Senior and 20 AFL Reserves matches, the running machine counts his highlights as the 13 Senior Grand Finals he has umpired over the journey. Rohan’s 10 Casey Cardinia Senior Grand Finals is an SUA record. One many expect could stand the test of time. Closest to his heart is last year’s 2015 SEFNL Senior Grand Final (Cranbourne v Berwick) in which despite bat-tling a few old age niggles he had possibly his nest nals series culminating in the Senior Grand Final 7 years after his last (2008). It was made even more special by his 2014 campaign being ended on the eve of the Preliminary Fi-nal due to injury. The ultimate professional (many a young (and older) um-pire could learn a thing or two from him), Rohan’s atten-tion to detail is second to none. And by none, that means absolutely nobody known to mankind. Never the slight-est crease or wrinkle in his clothes (that’s not just the ironed on eld kit) and boots that are whiter than white. If ever in need of good quality white paint for added brightness to the lounge room walls, just give Rohan a holler. And back to his attire…unless he gets completely and utterly confused while getting dressed in the morn-ings he can always conrm the day of the week by reveal-ing his sock and…sorry have forgotten…think it rhymes with socks though. A complex man, Rohan’s approach to umpiring is somewhat simple and driven:• every game is a test (of your fitness, knowledge of the rules, common sense, composure under pressure)• treat everyone with respect• “make the rules clear” (Allan Jeans)• enjoy the game• not being noticed

Rohan credits some local umpiring greats as having the biggest inuence on his career; Jim Klauer, Don Jolley, Peter Marshall and John Russo. And rates Mark Thorpe as the best he’s seen at a local level. When it comes to play-ers he’s also seen a few. Some of his top one include Si-mon Goosey, Greg Doyle, Brendan Long, Brendon Moore, Mark Hustwaite, Guy Stringer, Scott Kemble, Murray Peel, Michael Holland, Ricky Clark and Dan O’Loughlin (with apologies to plenty of others).A life member of the SUA, Rohan has done just about everything. From past committee member, social club secretary and training supervisor to current treasurer. But nothing speaks as highly of his character and stand-ing at the association as the rst day current Director of Umpiring Mark Mounsey walked in the doors to try his hand at the caper. A stalwart of local footy and a pest of a player on the eld, Mounsey had spent countless hours dishing it out to Rohan. Every time Rohan strutted out in his white, Mounsey shook his head, spurt out a small grin and got his lips ready for yet another verbal bashing. Yet the rst person to run the length of the ground and hold out a hand with a warm welcome Mounsey to this scary new world was none other than Rohan David. It’s only t-ting that today Rohan asked Mounsey to be part of his special achievement in a cracking senior match between Sorrento and Dromana (at Sorrento).Getting a bit of a whistle up from Rohan here to get back in the game. So from all at the SUA we wish you all the very best in your 400th Senior game. Don’t think this means the siren’s gonna sound anytime soon…CONGRATULATIONS ROHANStay in Touch Stay in touch with all information about Southern Um-pires Association (SUA) by following or adding us on social media. Bendigo Community BankNepean Netball Preview – Round 12 2016

Is that it? No more split rounds…I think so! We now have a clean run home for the next 5 weeks and then nals!!! Woohoo got to love nal time.

With a full round to preview this week we’d better get into it…

Sorrento v Dromana

The Tigers have found some form of late and last week knocked o Devon Meadows. Now they are only sit two games out of the top 4 and with Crib Point taking on Red Hill this week the Tigers will be hopeful that the Magpies win. Not only that they will need to win well themselves to boost their percentage to jump over Devon on the ladder. Sorrento will put up a ght but Dromana form will see them take the win.

Pearcedale v Somerville

The local derby between the Panthers and the Eagles. Whilst both teams sit 3 games apart, don’t think for any second that Somerville will have an easy game. Pearcedale had a good win last week over Rye and will be looking to extend the winning feeling another week. Whilst the Eagles had a one way street it won’t be the same this week, so hopefully for Pearcedale they’ll catch the Eagles napping.

Frankston v Tyabb

Frankston are still yet to get the four points so far this season. A draw has been the closest they have come, and with only 4 rounds eft for the Bombshells (as the last round is a bye) we will be cheering them on to hopefully see them win a game in 2016. This week it may not be the one against Tyabb but keep going girls your nearly there.

Devon Meadows v Rye

Devon Meadows will be coming out all guns blazing as they try to secure a nals spot in 2016. Sitting only 5th by percentage above Dromana it is critical for the Panthers to win today to stay in touch with the top sides and keep their nal chances alive. Rye won’t make the nals but they will make sure they will determine some of the results along the way, which will be the platform for their 2017 season.

Red Hill v Crib Point

Would say this is the match of the round. A local derby which could turn the tables in so many ways. If Crib Point win it puts Dromana and Devon Meadows (provided they win) back in the hunt for 4th spot. Whilst if Red Hill win it should see the top 4 locked in as they would then be 2-3games clear with on 4 weeks left. Last time these two met it was round 1 one, and a one sided aair. Don’t think it will be the case this time round. But like last year’s 1st Semi Final a physical encounter of hard tough netball!

Netball NotesDevon Meadows PanthersIn u17’s the girls had a better start to the game against Dromana taking the lead early in the 1st quarter but could not hold onto that lead letting Dromana move ahead on the scoreboard. The girls were unable to get on top of their opposition despite having plenty of turnovers. Credit to see the girls putting in the eort to stay in the game & be competitive. D 39 to DM 30. BOC Tyra. In C grade, the girls did their usual thanggg playing 4 quarters as a united team. Hard work is paying o for the players willing to train hard and out in extra work at training. BIC Chels & Nel. In B grade, the girls worked well down the court and fed the goalers beautifully (those goals will come!). The whole game was very fast paced & eventually the girls found their feet & by half time had a gap lead on the opposition. The mid courters were on re, especially Paige who got every centerpass and drove hard onto that ring- well done! The defenders worked well but Dromana also shot at a high percentage, so there were not many rebounds ups for grabs. The girls nished the game, pulling a fair bit away from Dromana taking the win. BOC Chi. In A grade, the girls started o on re, however were caught by the tigers in the end. The mid court drove hard on the w/e & the defenders produced multiple turnovers however the pressure was high amoung both teams- resulting in little mistakes being made. The goalers worked hard cosidering the height at both ends of the court by the opposition.BOC Lanz.

Pearcedale PanthersWhat a week on the netball court for our Panther girls! Last Saturday bought about some rare sunny winter weather and the girls welcomed every ray of warmth down at Rye as they took on the Demons.C Grade led the rst charge with a solid win over an extremely tall Rye side. But once again their defence was excellent and they put pressure over the ball on all areas of the court, causing and capitalising on many turnovers. A really great eort girls well done!B Grade was a tough uphill battle but our girls looked fresh out on the court after a week’s break. A vicious battle for 3 quarters, the two teams were neck and neck in the rst half led by strong defence from the back end and rewarded by beautiful shooting from Vikki Taylor. Unfortunately the 3rd quarter let them down and nished the day with a loss but a much improved team and lots of positives to take away from this match- great job girls!A Grade played an outstanding match across the entire court, really throwing it all at Rye. The movement and passing through the centre was fantastic and the defence tenacious while the goaling end had the accuracy, movement and perfect feeding trifecta! A really excellent win from this ever improving side!

Tyabb YabbiesLast round a very undermanned Tyabb team came up against Rosebud. U/17s gave it a really good shot but weren’t able to put enough goals on the scoreboard to worry Rosebud. It was pleasing to see Amelia and Kelsey continue to work hard for their team despite the large margin. Thanks to Anna for lling in at late notice. C grade managed to just hold on to the win by 3 goals. The team was missing some key players from both ends of the court but this has given some girls an opportunity to step up and prove their worth as we near nals. B grade went in 4 players down and thank Nat, Chloe and Lace for stepping up from C grade to help out on the day. It proved to be a tough match due to the number of changes across all positions on court. The girls all fought well and were able to come away happy winners.A grade also suered terribly with players out for this round. Leonie, Bec and Chloe helped out and did a great job to match their Rosebud opponents. Scores were close at quarter time but our defensive pressure intensied into the second and third quarter, making it near impossible for Rosebud’s goalers to score. Similar to all games for our senior sides, it was a closer match than we would like but considering the number of players missing, a great whole team eort.Today we meet Frankston for the second time and look forward to a great battle.NIP! NIP!

Bendigo Community Bank Netball NotesSorrento SharksThis week was another tough one for our C Grade girls against Somerville but they really tried to focus on not dropping their heads despite what the scoreboard showed. The game was very clean from somerville and we unfortunately couldn’t match the skill that they brought. Well done to the girls on a good eort. Great eort today by the B team against a very tough team. They played one of the better games as a team for the season and really smashed it in the third quarter with awesome teamwork. The nal score did not reect the eort you all put in. Great work from Kirra who did some amazing passes into the goal rings and well done to Emma Voight who did not give up during the entire game. A Grade girls had a very very tough game against Somerville. Somerville played extremely well, and proved they are a great strong team. They were beaten very early in the match but managed to hold their heads high throughout the whole game. Hopefully next week will bring better results. Thanks to Rattray and Walker, Marlo Spa and Fletchers Real Estate for your support.

Somerville EaglesLast round we faced Sorrento on what was a perfect day for netball at the Nest. The C girls came out ring and were rewarded with a big win. The defenders and mid court created lots of turnovers which were then converted by the goalers. Kelly Martin scored a huge 25 goals and worked brilliantly with her other goalers. The B girls enjoyed a great day on the court overrunning a young Sorrento side 78 -20. The goalers worked hard on the one percenters and it showed in how they used the circle. Converted turnovers were up near their goal and they are on track for their ultimate goal this season. It was a great team eort! The A girls had a massive win with Bec Dixon shooting a massive 80 goals!! She was fed the ball beautifully by the centre court and the defenders created a huge amount of turnovers. Overall it was a great 3 wins for the Eaglets. A big thank you to everyone who supported our Beyond Blue Bash in the clubrooms after the games and a HUGE shoutout to Liv and everyone who helped to organise This round we look forward to taking on Pearcedale at Pearcedale. GO EAGLES!!!!!

Crib Point MagpiesAs Frankston do not provide an under 17’s team, C Grade took the court an hour early. The girls got o to a shaky start and were down by 6 goals at the rst break. To their credit they fought back and were up by 3 during the last quarter. Unfortunately the game ended in a draw and both teams leaving the court robbed of victory. Molly Palser was best on court with a gutsy eort in the centre court. The B Grade game provided another slog out and in a physical encounter the girls were unable to overcome the Bombers in a 13 goal loss. Best on court went to Casey Ainsworth who provided strong leads and accurate goaling all game. Too many turnovers in the attack end cost us as our defenders worked tirelessly against tough competition. After watching the previous 2 games our A Grade girls were ready for a tough game but Frankston were depleted and our girls had a convincing win. With three players out this week, we were able to show our depth as a club as we smashed the bombers 15 to 63. The girls showed amazing team work and heaps of positive talk. Best on court went to Alicia Coventry.

Bendigo Community BankDromana TigersWell our last game was a fortnight ago and what a weekend it was...... a big weekend Georgie’s 100th game and Mid season Ball which was enjoyed by all...U 17’s started the day with a great win over the Devon Meadows Girls Renae has done a great job with this team and training is a must at this end of the season keep up the great job .....Awards went to Shannen Fowler and Molly AustinC Grade and B Grade had a hard day with Devon to strong on the day C Grade Awards went to Sheldon Willliams and Sammi Farquer and B Awards to Chanelle Jenkins and Maggi Alford.A Grade started the day with Georgie and her 100th game Banner (great job Girls) It was a close game from the start with Devon being up by 4 at half time .The half time speech must have been great because the girls came out after that on re out scoring Devon by 6 in the third this carried on into the last quarter with no changes and the Tigers came out on top by 7. Great job GirlsAwards went to Kristi Brinksma and Georgie May.This week up against Sorrento nds us struggling to nd players Thanks to all the girls who have been able to help out this weekGo Tigers

Rosebud BudsA-Grade – Unfortunately we had another loss this week, with Tyabb proving too strong. However our girls came out strong and focussed giving 100% in every quarter. Focussing on applying what we worked on at training, the girls worked had on our intensity and defensive pressure down the court. Well done to our girls for giving their all and ghting to the end! Best on was Millie (C) and Darcy (GK). B-Grade – Sadly we had several players out due to work & illness but we are so lucky within our Club that we have so many keen and versatile girls to cover!! We played really well considering our position changes. The ow of the ball down the court was impressive but Tyabb’s defence was tough. Well done to our B-Grade girls – you really stepped up! Best on were Lily (GS) and Leshelle (WD). C-Grade – What a great game by all the girls! We kept close all day and only just missed out on the points in the end. Looking forward to the next few weeks as we’re improving each week and with a good turn-out at training we are aiming for some wins. Best on was Tiahn and Daisy who came up from the Under 17s to help out – thanks girls. Under 17s – Awesome game girls! With a strong rst quarter we were able to get a good lead from the start. A shaky second quarter meant they were able to come back but we kept our cool and stayed strong with awesome defending all the way down the court. We were able to extend the lead in the third quarter and smash them in the fourth. Well done girls you all played a fantastic game! Best on today were Shannon (GD) and Casey (C).

Rye DemonsLast Saturday we hosted Pearcedale at home. The weather smiled on us and we played the 3 games in good dry conditions. We had another average day at the oce and we only managed one win. The C grade match was a hard one for the girls and they fell short with a 9 to 37 loss. BOC Eliza McRae. The B grade match was our highlight with the girls taking the win 37 to 28. BOC Sharnia Garner. The A grade match was one of mixed fortunes. The score was 32 to 39 giving the win to Pearcedale. BOC was Sienna Wills. Thanks to all the girls who have been trying week after week to ll the gaps and make up for our missing players. You are all fantastic. This week we take on Devon Meadows. Good luck to all players. Go Dees.

Red Hill HillsIt was a cold & early start last week at Hastings. But as the sun started to shine so did our C grade team. Coming out of the blocks with a fast pace in the 1st quarter, Redhill took control. All girls played a great defensive game, with lots of turnovers. Our goalers capitalised on this which led to a comfortable win. If this type of play continues, we should be watching this team progressively stepping up the ladder. Our B grade last week were challenged in every quarter, there was no time to let their guard down, at half time there was only one goal the dierence. The crowd were on the edge of their seats. Hastings battled on relentlessly but I congratulate the girls on the hard fought game which resulted in Redhill winning by 2 goals.

Hastings BluesC grade played in patches where they were super strong and patches where they faded away. Overall a good performance showing improvement every week. Tori Camerli had her best game for the year, intercepting and nished o with strong passing in attack. B grade started o strong keeping even with Red Hill in the game.Too many errors throughout the match cost us on the board in areas where we just need to play our own game and value our possession of the ball. We had a nal charge in the last quater unfortunately not enough to get in front causing a close loss by 2 goals. The girls however showed that the ghting spirit is there and if we keep building on the desire to run out matches and chase the win then our game will continue to improve.Ladies Day that followed was a huge success raising money for our electric score board, thanks to Emma Smith for organizing such a great day.

Frankston BombshellsElection day beckoned and it took almost as long to get over the jet lag from travelling to Crib Point as it did to decide our next Prime Minister. We achieved a hung parliament, majority party win and an early secession loss, in our version of the polls. (A draw, win and loss for those playing at home!) In C grade Chrissy thought running late counted as the perfect warm up exercise. The girls transferred the stress from last minute bib delivery into a high energy rst quarter giving us an initial jump over Cribby. Cassie aka Lewie’s Mum, was more accurate than Steph Curry and illustrated how successful pregnancy can be as a form of preseason training! Our jump was almost insurmountable but just not quite enough to take the 4 points. In a very diplomatic ending we agreed to share the points. B grade got o to the perfect start with Bev attempting a Guinness world record for the highest repetitive vertical leap getting more rebounds than broken promises in

this year’s election campaign. Cath also shooting so consistently that you could lock in 45 of those dashes in the scorebook in advance. The win just sneaking us into the 4 by a bee’s you know what.A grade had already begun preparations for the ball with tans so bronze it improved our dancing skills but not our netball skills. Grace and Lou our superstars giving it 100% until the end were the standouts. Unfortunately A grade had to walk away like Craig David taught them to without the 4 points. Maybe this week go Bomber!
