Gr.10’s. You have a task called the PAT (Practical Assessment Task) which is a COMPULSORY component of the subject. This means you MUST do it. Normally we start only in quarter 3, but this year we received it earlier. The PAT is divided into TWO phases. You must first complete phase 1, submit it and get it back form me before you continue with phase 2. Since we are in lock down and you have some time on your hands, please make an effort to read through the instructions for PHASE 1 ONLY. Do some research on what a Digital Footprint is and how you leave it behind. Then follow the instructions in the document to start with phase 1. I suggest you start with it in the back of you Gr.10 exercise book making notes and doing planning in PENCIL… I have to still explain it to everybody and since there are only a few learners that completed the contact form, I’ll do it when you are back at school again. Please note that we are going to work VERY hard when you get back, so please rest while you can. The rest of this year is going to be very difficult for all of us. 1

We are faced with making decisions every single day.Our decisions will influence the outcome. But before we make a decision we first analyse the situation by asking some questions.Based on the answers / results of the analysis, you’ll make the decision.

Your PAT will follow the same steps. You will have to analyse what a Digital Footprint is, how it works, how you leave it, what it can influence etc. Then you will collect the data (either online or with questionnaires / surveys) and then you will analyse the data.Based on the result of the analysis you can make a decision and present your findings.

This process can be done with a KWLS chart.

Please check page 31 (last page) of the PAT document.K = What do you already KNOW about the topic.W = What do you still WANT to know about the topic.L = What have you LEARNED after doing some research (what do you now know that you did not know before the research).S = What do you STILL want to know / research.

Look at the picture on the slide from left to right:

On the left image you have all the measurements of the room you want to paint. This is data because it does not really help with how much paint you must buy. It is just raw, unprocessed numbers.

The second image is where you process the numbers so that it becomes information and meaningful.

The last image indicates the total size of the walls and you can then decide, based on your analysis, how much paint to buy.

You can also get data from the community by creating a survey / questionnaire which the people can complete. You can then capture this data into an application in order to analyse it to get results.

Closed questions are answered by FACT. It is quick YES or NO type questions. No explanation / discussion needed.

Open– ended questions are questions that are open for discussion. It is not purely factual
