Welcome to Our Classroom!
So, what can we expect this year?
• I am a Mathematics & Secondary Education undergraduate student at the University of
Rhode Island• I am a native Rhode Islander from Smithfield• I am a Patriots and Red Sox fan!• I played softball for 13 years• I love animals, especially dogs!
Who am I?
Why do I want to be a teacher?
• I have developed my interest in mathematics and learning from many great teachers throughout my schooling, I would love to be able to spread this interest to my students!
• Making math fun and important to students is a goal of mine as a teacher, I would like my students to find my subject meaningful.
My Philosophy of Teaching
I believe that as a teacher I am responsible for sharing accurate knowledge, developing a safe and collaborative environment for my students and making learning interesting and important to my students! I will set clear expectations for
behavior and effort in my classroom and encourage all students to share, succeed and
grow throughout their time with me.
My Philosophy & Classroom Management
• Humanistic:– I will create a safe and supportive environment
where students feel respected and open to sharing their ideas, successes and trials. I would like to help my students grow both academically and personally. If there is a behavioral problem, I will talk with students to understand and plan ways to find an acceptable alternative behavior or to alter the environment to meet the needs of the student.
My Philosophy & Classroom Management
• Managerial:– I am a planner! I will plan and set clear
expectations throughout the year to help maximize the time on task and minimize potential behavioral problems. Students should always know what to do, how to do it and how to get help when needed. This also includes planning interesting and engaging tasks for students!
My Philosophy & Classroom Management
• Behavioral:– I will utilize the behavioral plan’s system of
rewards and consequences to manage my class rules. Students will be rewarded for positive behavior and there will be consequences for behaviors that go against the class rules. These are outlined in the PBIS system.
Classroom Rules• Be Respectful
– To yourself, your classroom, your peers, teachers and any classroom guests• Listen & track whoever is speaking• Treat others how you’d want to be treated• Use positive language• No technology use unless with permission of teacher
• Be Responsible– For yourself and your actions
• Have all materials for class (notebook, pencil, planner…)• Have all assignments completed & in class on the due date• Fulfill your commitments
• Participate & Try YOUR Best!– Have an open mind to discuss topics and ideas
• Help one another • Share ideas• Ask questions in class• Come for extra help after school
Here are my three overarching rules and some guidelines, we will discuss any potential changes or additions at the beginning of the year!
