Welcome to the middle school Art Elective! I am wildly excited to be given this opportunity to nurture youngadults in your creativity and artistic design. We will be exploring art elements and various techniques throughwhat is known by many as a visual journal. As each art element and technique is taught, you will have instantopportunity to work with each on journal pages in a mixed media (supports both wet and dry) art journal.

All students will receive their own visual journal to use and keep at the end of the trimester. A basic kit ofsupplies is provided for use during class time. These kits may also be checked out for use at home. It is eachartists responsibility to bring the kit (andjournal) back to school on the day of his or her art class in order tobe prepared for the days experiences. By the end of the trimester, each student will have created a richlytextured collection of thoughts, dreams, plans, and artistic expressions and gained familiarity and usability with

major art design concepts. (Check the Art tab on the class webpage for more suggestions of possiblesupplies. http://mrsjpryor.com/art) Happy creating!

    ILMS Grading Scale

    98%h = A+93-97%= A90-92%= A-88-89%= B+83-87%= B

    80-82%= B-78-79%= C+73-77%= C70-72%= C-69%i = F

(Notice that there is no grade in the D range.)

Points are earned in the following ways:

We are leaders at our school, in our families, and in ourcommunities. As such, I expect each student to display leadership qualities daily. This includespreparedness and responsibility (having paper, writing utensils, homework, etc.), respect, and aservants heart. If a student loses a point for not displaying any of the above, he or she will have theopportunity to earn that point back in a short after-school (1:15-1:30) detention where the necessaryskill will be practiced and leadership skills put into place. At the end of each trimester, those studentswho have an A in their leadership points in alltheir classes will be entered into a drawing for a valuable

prize (along the lines of an iPad or other enticing gadgetry). LIKEWISE, throughout theday/week/trimester, students who display exceptional leadership traits can receive additional ticketsThese students must exhibit the responsibility to not lose the tickets (lost tickets will not be replaced)but keep the tickets with their school supplies at all times. On the day of the drawing (which may ormay not be advertised), students with additional earned tickets may dump them into the drawing bowlthereby significantly increasing their chances of winning!

I expect learners to dive in. The creative process can only befully developed through experience. There will be no sitting on the sidelines watching others createWe all(including myself) will be getting our hands dirty (quite literally, sometimes).

I only assign homework that I believe haseducational value and purpose in learning. As such, I expect what I do assign to be completed and

turned in ON TIME Work that is turned in after the start of the class period is considered late. (Latework will receive 50% credit only.) In general, my artists will receive two assignments a week, one aftereach class period. I, however, highly recommend spending a little bit of time each day (even if just 5minutes) working in your visual journals at home.
