During the month of December, with the exception of the training tor and partic1petion 1n MARLEIC IX, tho lst Battalion, 5th Marines continued in its role ot monning the center portion or the divisional outpost line o! resisto,nce. Tho primary mission of this \l&ttalion is to organize, occupy and defend in depth, the center portion of the 5th Marines aeotor between the Imjin River and thO eouthem boundary of the Demiliteri~ed Zona, forming a bridgehead tor the Sl'OONSIU. and the HONKER Crossing Site. Additional miseions are, to be prepared on o)'der, to establish OP•s on Hill 181 (CT 0404) and Hill 229 (CT 0101) and destroy bridges or e:roseing eites within our sector.

The let Battalion, 5th ·~Iarinos has been opposed by eleT.lents of the Bth Division of the lot North Korean Peoples Corps Md two regiments (406th and 408th) of the ]J6th Division, 46th CCF Army deployed from Weet to Eaet reepecti vely, north of the northern boundary of the Dend.lita.rizsd Zona.

During the month, the enemy was engaged extensively in the preparation of bunkers, weapons positions and trenches.
