At the end of August, when students return to school for the 2015-2016 School Year, they will give their math
teacher this Booklet. Please make sure ALL information is filled out on the front cover. Please do your VERY best to complete as many sections as you can.
If your son/daughter is participating in another Summer Math Program and you would like to substitute what he/she is doing in lieu of this assignment, please contact your Elementary School Teacher (if prior to the end of this school year) or the 5/6 main office (during the summer). (See next page for additional options.) All students who complete this Summer Math Program or an approved alternative will be able to attend a Treat & Game get-together hosted by our Home and School and Math Teachers in the fall during the school day.
Please Play the Games. They are a fun way to maintain math fact recall.
Page 1
For the Math Games in the Booklet you will need: 2 dice, pencil, about 30 coins (Pennies), 2 Player Pieces –coins or pieces from a game you have at home will work. Depending on your child’s math fact ability, you may want to have paper and pencil available for them to calculate.
Dear Families,
We have received requests from parents for math activities/worksheets that can be
completed at home over the summer to prepare for 5th grade. To meet that need, we created
this summer math workbook. At the start of the 2015-2014 school year, your current 4th
grade child can turn in the summer booklet to their 5th grade teacher. As a reward, we will
be having a Treat/Game Party to celebrate. Please note, this is completely OPTIONAL and
there are a few ways to participate.
Key Points:
In anticipation of those who may need an alternative booklet (easier or more difficult),
we offer these choices:
1) Students may complete the Spring-Ford Math Summer Booklet –as is.
2) Parents may purchase their own workbook; show it to their child’s teacher/principal.
The teacher or principal should sign the inside of the book to show approval. The
teacher should sign their name and include the name of their Elementary School.
3) Teachers may supply their own workbook to students to meet their individual needs.
Again the teacher should sign the inside of the book showing your approval.
4) If a student is participating in a math program over the summer (e.g. Kumon,
Huntington Learning Center, Personal Tutor, Cool School), all they need to submit is
a letter from the program.
5) If a student participates in an online program, simply turn in some record of
progress/completion.
New students who enroll over the summer will receive a booklet from the district. They are
to complete the weeks starting from the date they enroll.
Thank you,
Holly P. Smith

Each week you will find an assignment sheet that looks like this. You are to do your best to complete each section. As you complete each section, put a check mark in the circle next to the assignment description to show that you have finished that part. Week of Assignment
