ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS

Guiding questions for learning at home:

● What types of books do you like to read? What topics do you enjoy reading about?● What do you like to write about? Are there stories you haven’t finished telling yet?● Have you had a special experience you could write about? What do you want to learn more about?

Take advantage of the following learning opportunities daily:● Spend 30 minutes per day reading, both silently and aloud to a parent/guardian, sibling...or your dog!● Parents/Guardians, spark conversation with questions like these:

○ Who is the main character? Would you be friends with him or her? Why? ○ What is the major problem in the story? ○ Does the story remind you of anything you’ve experienced or read about before? Explain.

● Practice learning the meaning and spelling of grade-level words.● Help your child learn the meaning of a word when a prefix (beginning) or suffix (ending) is added to a

known word (heat/preheat, care/careless).● Write about experiences you have had or would like to have, or topics you know about or would like

to know more about.● Focus on writing complete sentences, grouping sentences into paragraphs, and elaborating with

facts, reasons, and/or details.

You have finally succeeded at seceding! Your fellow countrymen and women have selected you to establish law and order. This is a very important job and must be done with haste! Your task is to determine a name for your country, a Bill of Rights and at the end make a flag! Your Bill of Rights should be at least ten rights in length or the people may not be protected. These rights are important and you must include up to five of them, in your own wording, as part of the ten for your nation. You must clearly communicate through writing the rights you have chosen and why you believe they are important to all citizens. Remember the fate of the nation rests in your hands!
