Report Card Check Sheet for Fifth Grade 2nd

    9weeks

Below is a list of what will be assessed for the 2nd

    nine weeks.

    Math Science Social Studies ELA

NF.A.1 Add and subtract fractions with

    unlike denominators (including mixed

numbers) by replacing given fractionswith equivalent fractions in such a way as

to produce an equivalent sum or

    difference of fractions with like

    denominators. For example, 2/3 + 5/4 =

    8/12 + 15/12 = 23/12. (In general, a/b +

    c/d = (ad + bc)/bd.)

    NF.A.2 Solve word problems involving

    addition and subtraction of fractions

referring to the same whole, including

cases of unlike denominators, e.g., byusing visual fraction models or equations

    to represent the problem. Use

    benchmark fractions and number sense

of fractions to estimate mentally and

    assess the reasonableness of answers.

    For example, recognize an incorrect

    result 2/5 + 1/2 = 3/7, by observing that

    3/7 < 1/2.

    NF.B.4a Interpret the product (a/b) q as

a parts of a partition of q into b equal

parts; equivalently, as the result of a

    sequence of operations a q b. For

example, use a visual fraction model to

    show (2/3) 4 = 8/3, and create a story

context for this equation. Do the same

    with (2/3) (4/5) = 8/15. (In general,

    (a/b) (c/d) = ac/bd.)

NF.B.4b Find the area of a rectangle with

fractional side lengths by tiling it with

unit squares of the appropriate unit

fraction side lengths, and show that thearea is the same as would be found by

    the motion of an object

    5-3.1 Explain how the

    Industrial Revolution was

    furthered by newinventions and

    technologies, including new

    methods of mass

    production and

    transportation and the

    invention of the light bulb,

    the telegraph, and the

    telephone.

and the ruling in Plessy v.

    Ferguson.

    5-3.3 Summarize the

    significance of large-scale

    immigration to America,

    including the countries

    from which the people

    came, the opportunities

    and resistance they faced

    when they arrived, and the

    cultural and economic

    contributions they made to

    the United States.

    5-3.4 Summarize the

    impact of industrialization,

urbanization, and the riseof big business, including

    multiplying the side lengths. Multiply

fractional side lengths to find areas of

    rectangles, and represent fraction

    products as rectangular areas.

NF.B.5a Comparing the size of a product

to the size of one factor on the basis of

the size of the other factor, without

performing the indicated multiplication.NF.B.5b Explaining why multiplying a

given number by a fraction greater than 1

results in a product greater than the

    given number (recognizing multiplication

by whole numbers greater than 1 as a

    familiar case); explaining why multiplying

a given number by a fraction less than 1

results in a product smaller than the

given number; and relating the principle

    of fraction equivalence a/b = (na)/(nb)

to the effect of multiplying a/b by 1.

    NF.B.6 Solve real world problems

    involving multiplication of fractions and

mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual

fraction models or equations to represent

    the problem.

NF.B.7a Interpret division of a unit

fraction by a non-zero whole number,

    and compute such quotients. For

example, create a story context for (1/3)

4, and use a visual fraction model toshow the quotient. Use the relationship

    between multiplication and division to

    explain that (1/3) 4 = 1/12 because

    (1/12) 4 = 1/3.

NF.B.7b Interpret division of a whole

number by a unit fraction, and compute

such quotients. For example, create a

story context for 4 (1/5), and use a

visual fraction model to show the

quotient. Use the relationship betweenmultiplication and division to explain that

    the development of

    monopolies; long hours,

    low wages, and unsafe

    working conditions on men,

    women, and children

    laborers; and resulting

    reform movements.

3-3.5 Summarize thereasons for the United

    States control of new

territories as a result of the

    Spanish American War and

    the building of the Panama

    Canal, including the need

    for raw materials and new

    markets and competition

    with other world powers.

    5-3.6 Summarize the

    factors that led to the

    involvement of the United

States in World War I and

    the role of the United

    States in fighting the war.

RF.5.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support

    comprehension.

sequencing ideas logically and using appropriate facts and

relevant, descriptive details to support main ideas or

themes; speak clearly at an understandable pace.

SL.5.5 Include multimedia components in visual displays in

presentations when appropriate to enhance the

development of main ideas and themes.

SL.5.6 Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks,

using formal English when appropriate to task and

    situation.

L.5.1 Demonstrate command of conventions of standard

English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

L.5.2 Demonstrate command of the conventions of

standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling

    when writing.

L.5.3 Use knowledge of language and its conventions when

    writing, speaking, reading, and listening.

development and organization are appropriate to task,

    purpose, and audience.

W.5.5 With guidance and support from peers and adults,

develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning,

revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.

W.5.6 With some guidance and support from adults, usetechnology including the internet, to produce and publish

    3/3

    4 (1/5) = 20 because 20 (1/5) = 4.

NF.B.7c Interpret division of a whole

number by a unit fraction, and compute

such quotients. For example, create a

story context for 4 (1/5), and use a

visual fraction model to show the

    quotient. Use the relationship between

    multiplication and division to explain that4 (1/5) = 20 because 20 (1/5) = 4.

    G.B.3 Understand that attributes

belonging to a category of two-

dimensional figures also belong to all

    subcategories of that category. For

example, all rectangles have four right

angles and squares are rectangles, so all

    squares have four right angles.

    G.B.4 Classify two-dimensional figures in

    a hierarchy based on properties.

    writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others;

demonstrate sufficient command of keyboarding skills to

type a minimum of two pages in a single sitting.

W.5.7 Conduct short research projects that use several

sources to build knowledge through investigation of

    different aspects of a topic.

W.5.8 Recall relevant information from experiences or

gather relevant information from print and digital sources;summarize or paraphrase information in notes and finished

work, and provide a list of sources.

W.5.9 Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to

    support analysis, reflection, and research.

W.5.10 Write routinely over extended time frames for a

range of discipline specific tasks, purposes and audiences.
