Role description
Within Nokia Bell Labs, the research arm of Nokia, the
‘Internet of Things Control’ (IoT-C) department focuses on
the definition of innovative control architectures and
solutions aiming at enhancing & securing how people, devices
of the Internet of Things and networks interact in a seamless
manner. Future control solutions will have to be highly
dynamic and scalable, adapting to “Things” peculiarities
(possibly low power, low memory, etc.), people moving to
different places but wanting to be always connected to their
personal environment and frequently changing their context-
of-use (entertainment, health, work, …). With the IT and

will rely on dynamic programmable network elements,
distributed cloud assets and dynamic service chaining, thus
taking benefits and extending the current Software-Defined
Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV)
paradigms.
The selected candidate will contribute to the future
innovations on network control and network policy
management for IoT environments. In order to easily deal
with the great diversity of IoT devices, protocols and
environments, innovations could be applied at different levels
ranging from specific control mechanisms for the
connectivity of non-IP IoT devices (e.g. Bluetooth Low Energy,
ZigBee, Zwave, …), for the IoT resource discovery and IoT
resource monitoring, or more generally to facilitate how users
can easily interact with such devices & services in an very
intuitive manner.
He/She will interact with other researchers in Nokia Bell Labs
and with external partners in the research community. As part
of his/her mission, the candidate will publish research results
in major worldwide conferences and journals, will contribute
to generate intellectual property, and to possible transfers of
the research into Nokia Business Groups.

- Additional knowledge on machine learning would be
appreciated
- Excellent technical rigor, open-minded, strong innovation
spirit, willing to prove concepts with real prototypes
- Visionary, ability to understand and explain stakes and
risks behind technological evolutions.
