China Telecom 5G Technology White Paper
China Telecom released the “China Telecom 5G Technology White Paper” at 2018 MWC-Shanghai on June 26th
The white paper proposes the network evolution strategy of China Telecom which is concluded as “One Basis, Three Principles”
• One Basis:4G and 5G networks will coexist for a long time • Three Principles:
1. Multi-network convergence
2. Phase-by-phase migration
3. Cost efficiency
• SA is preferred, voice fall back to LTE
4G/5G interworking:Choose SA to achieve real 5G
Both SA and NSA can achieve 4G/5G interworking SA is target network solution which can avoid
frequent network upgrade and reduce the complexity of terminals
SA network is the target of network evolution
NSA based on EPC requires frequent network upgrade to evolve to SA
For NSA based on 5GC, LTE eNBs need to be upgraded to eLTE. In this case, 4G and 5G dual connectivity is hard to be realized between different vendors
SA network requires less upgrade
SA network supports 5G new features like network slicing, edge computing, etc.
In early 5G network, eMBB services mainly covers hotspot areas, 4G/5G interworking can be achieved through core network. The eMBB service experience will not be affected as the terminals have a caching mechanism
SA network can provide more new services
In NSA network, terminals will be more difficult to design and expensive to mitigate serious interference at 3.5GHz
SA terminals are easier to be manufactured with lower cost as they do not support dual-connectivity
Terminal for SA network is lower-cost
5G target network architecture “Three Clouds” network architecture based on SDN/NFV, which can be flexibly deployed according
to different scenarios
