Background● The AutoAir project aims to create a functional “neutral host” 5G testbed for mobile broadband

applications for road and rail and next generation connected autonomous vehicles (CAVs).

● It will demonstrate the business viability for deploying 5G networks, especially in a ‘neutral-host’ or shared architecture and accelerate the uptake of enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), internet-of-things (IoT), and ultra-reliable, low-latency (URLLC) applications.

● The project involves the utilisation of two testbeds, one of which is deployed at the Millbrook Proving Ground.

● Real Wireless leads the business model analysis of the proposed network and modelling to illustrate potential socio-economic benefits.

● Real Wireless does the radio planning for the 5G deployment at Millbrook, and combine this knowledge with the trials data analysis to validate the technical platform elements of the techno-economic model.

● The following slides reflect the latest thinking on Use Cases that are being analysed through trials and techno-economic activities. The Use Cases are a dynamic aspect of the project and as such the view is likely to change throughout the life of the project.

Introduction Radio Planning

● We focus on identifying the most advantageous location sites for a small cell network in the Millbrook Proving Ground, with the objective of maximising the offered throughput to vehicles on the road.

● It includes the modelling of the different radio components and corresponding parameters of the mesh network and estimating the wireless coverage.

● The Millbrook area can broadly be divided into two topographic types; a relatively flat area, where most of the tracks and event buildings are located and the hilly part in the south of the grounds, where there is a height difference of tens of meters.

27 September 2018 4

● The radio planning activity identified locations required to extend/densify the LTE/5G coverage for the whole of the Millbrook Proving Ground to achieve a certain performance target and determine the feasibility and utilisation of the mesh mmWave radios as a backhaul option

Optimised Millbrook Network

● Various propagation models are used; 3.7 GHz = ITU-R P.1812-4 model taking into account losses for the atmospheric absorption and rain fading (ITU-R P.676-11, ITU-R P.837-7, ITU-R P.838-3 and ITU-R P.1510-1).

● TDD configuration 1 (4 slots for DL/UL and 2 slots for signalling), adjusting for PRB utilisation a realistic system maximum achievable throughput is ~70 Mbps.

● When densifying the network, the minimum intersite distance between the LTE sites is 100 m, while the minimum intersite distance between the mesh radios is 50 m.

● Various antenna configurations are being evaluated

Optimised network; circles correspond to cells with omnidirectional antennas, lines correspond to the azimuth of the directional antenna at that cell

What is a use case?● We consider a use case as a set of interactions between stakeholders (be that a human being or a

machine) and the 5G system

● Stakeholders can be the infrastructure owners, consumers, or any other business that provides services through the 5G system

● A use case includes one or more applications in a deployment environment with details regarding the user activity and both sides of the link

● Ideally Use cases impose some requirements on the 5G system that cannot be met with the 4G one, or they are more effective in the 5G network, and they drive the network implementation. Economic value creation is also an important criteria.

● Three main value creation families of use cases[1]:

● Entertainment

● Advance driver assistance/command and control

● Vehicle management/telematics
