The annual CTBUh Tall + Urban innovation Conference explores and celebrates the very best in innovative tall buildings, urban spaces, building technologies, and construction practices from around the world. incorporating what was previously known as the CTBUh Annual Awards event, this conference sees the owner/developers, design, and engineer teams for 50+ Awarded projects present in front of an international audience and live juries for winning distinctions across several award categories.

The event brings to Chicago, the home of the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban habitat, a critical cross-section of tall building owners, developers, occupiers, operators, designers, engineers, and builders—along with the interested public—to investigate the cutting-edge in sustainable urbanism, presented by the world’s foremost examples.

The CTBUh annual Awards program recognizes projects and individuals that have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of tall buildings and the urban environment, and that achieve sustainability at the highest and broadest level. The objective is to deliver a comprehensive and sophisticated view of these important buildings, spaces, and technologies, while advocating for improvements in every aspect of their performance, especially those that have the greatest effect on the people who use them each day. This means that the buildings highlighted are often not the tallest in a given year, but represent the best qualities and innovations in the typology.

The Council initiated this program in 2001, with the creation of the lynn S. Beedle lifetime Achievement Award, later adding the Fazlur r. Khan lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. it began recognizing the team achievement in tall building projects by issuing Best Tall Building awards in 2007.

Celebration of the award winning projects is recognized through the annual Tall + Urban innovation Conference, where Award of Excellence Winners in each award category present their projects for live judging in front of an international audience. overall Category Winners are selected during the event and awards are conferred at the Ceremony & Dinner held at the close of the event.

Radisson Blu at the Aqua Tower The confrence will be held at the radisson Blu Aqua hotel in downtown Chicago. located in the lakeshore East neighborhood on Columbus Drive, Aqua Tower offers spectacular views of the city, a variety of convenient amenities, and upscale accommodations.

Completed in 2009, Aqua Tower was itself recognized as a Best Tall Building Americas Finalist in the 2010 Awards program. The building design draws influence from its impressive neighbor, lake Michigan. The wave-like shape of each unique balcony provides guests with a view of the skyline, Millennium park, or the Chicago lakefront. Aqua boasts extensive meeting spaces with an elegant ballroom, as well as a spa and recreational facilities, a rooftop swimming pool, and a modern lifestyle garden. Minutes from the Magnificent Mile and Millennium park, Aqua Tower is just a short walk from the best entertainment the Windy City has to offer.

Very favorable, negotiated rates at the conference hotel mean that you can stay in this prime location during the conference for highly competitive rates. 1. Days 1 & 2 Core Conference = Two full days of Conference sessions (Monday & Tuesday) + 2 lunches + 6 coffee breaks.2. The academic rate is intended to support full-time university professors. It does not apply to professionals working in

practice who also teach part-time. To qualify, you must be an active CTBUH Academic Member and will be required to provide proof of active, full-time teaching status by submitting a letter of confirmation from your university or other, verifiable confirmation of full-time status (note that a scanned university ID does not qualify).

3. The student rate is intended to support full-time university students. To qualify, you must be a CTBUH Student Member and will be required to provide proof of active, full-time student status by submitting a letter of confirmation from your university, current transcripts, or other, verifiable confirmation of status (note that a scanned student ID does not qualify).

4. Registrations for the Opening Networking Reception, Sponsor Social Events, and Dinner can only be accepted for delegates registered for the 2-day Core Conference. Guests at sponsored Dinner Tables are not required to be registered for the Core Conference, but are required to submit details for name badges prior to the event.

5. The subsidized Presenter/CTBUH Leader Registration is intended for those notified of speaking or panel discussion involvement, and for CTBUH Leaders only. For each accepted presentation, only one presenter per company is entitled to the reduced registration rate. These subsidized registrations are not transferable to other colleagues.

6. Cancellation Policy: A 100% refund, minus a US$100 cancellation fee (per delegate) will be given if written notice of cancellation is received by 15 February 2020. A 50% refund will be given between 15 February–6 March 2020. No refund will be given for cancellation after 6 March 2020 due to costs incurred by CTBUH for each delegate at that time. No refunds will be given for those who register at an incorrect rate. No refunds will be given for those who do not attend the conference. If you cannot attend the conference we are happy to accept a substitute colleague without penalty up to 6 March 2020. No substitutions are allowed after 6 March 2020.

7. Reimbursement Policy: If a delegate wishes to change his/her booking and this is possible within the terms of the Cancellation Policy above, then a $30 administration and bank fee (per delegate) will be charged on any reimbursement refund.

8. Payment: Registrations are not confirmed until payment is received. If a payment is not received within 24 hours of registration, then the registration may be canceled. A 3% bank fee will be charged for all credit card payments; a $20 bank fee will be charged for all wire transfers.

Founded in 1969 and headquartered at Chicago’s historic Monroe Building, the CTBUh is a not-for-profit organization with an Asia headquarters office at Tongji University, Shanghai; a research office at iuav University, Venice, italy; and an Academic office at the illinois institute of Technology, Chicago. CTBUh facilitates the exchange of the latest knowledge available on tall buildings around the world through publications, research, events, working groups, web resources, and its extensive network of international representatives. The Council’s research department is spearheading the investigation of the next generation of tall buildings by aiding original research on sustainability and key development issues. The Council’s free database on tall buildings, The Skyscraper Center, is updated daily with detailed information, images, data, and news. The CTBUh also developed the international standards for measuring tall building height and is recognized as the arbiter for bestowing such designations as “The World’s Tallest Building.”
