October 2016

“The Spirit of 76”

Post News Bob Mischler, Commander

[email protected]

Our Legion recently found we have been in possession of 5 sites in the Wheaton

Cemetery. The Wheaton Cemetery has offered to purchase these sites to resell them. Before

doing so, the executive board voted to offer them to Legion members for $1250 each. If you are

interested, contact the post before Dec 31, 2016 on a first come basis.

Elections for Building and Grounds will be held at the Oct Post meeting. Nominees are

Dale Alden, Jim Goepel and Bob Smid. Additionally, Mike Stange to fill the remainder of Larry

Hoffman’s term.

Find the latest information on our web site at americanlegionpost76.org

We will not be meeting this month, I'll keep you posted when our next meeting will take place. We

have an October Fest on the first, a fantastic meal for only $10. Friday night bingo could use some

additional help. Even if you can only help once a month, that would be great. It's pretty easy and we

provide the training if needed.

installed our new officers for 2016-2017:

We have a lot of fun and exciting events coming up.

On October 15 we have our annual Fall Craft Show. There are still some spaces available, if you

of someone you know are crafters or home based vendor business owners and would like to get in

the show. And if you are not a crafter, then please come out and shop. And if you have some

time to spare, we can definitely use your help. It is a busy and fun event, the more helpers the

better. We are also looking for the Auxiliary members to bake for the bake sale table.

In November are the Turkey shoots – The Ladies Auxiliary provides the lunch on those days. If

you are avail to help in the kitchen, let us know, we can certainly use the help.

Our next meeting will be on Oct 3 @ 6:30pm. I hope to see you there.

Post Sponsored News

As most of you are aware, our post has sponsored many activities over the years.

Boy Scouts, Baseball, Gifts to the Yanks and School awards to name a few.

This year, a distinct event came to our attention. Kathryn Ryken, one of the 2016

American Legion Award recipients at Wheaton Christian Grammar School was the

second generation in her family to receive this award. Her father, Philip Ryken, also

received the same award in 1980.

Pictured below is Kathryn and her father Philip, the first (to our knowledge) two

generation award recipients.
