About Today’s Online Worship Service

Please note that we are trying something a little different this week. Our Zoom meeting room will be open to attendees at 9:45. When you log in, you will remain an “attendee” until after the service. This means that your camera and microphone will be off and you won’t be able to see yourself or others outside of the worship team. You will be greeted by a slide with instructions and information about the service and tech support will still be available via chat should you have any trouble. After the service is over and recording has stopped, we will change everyone’s designation from “attendee” to “panelist” which will allow you to turn on your camera and microphone and enjoy the online fellowship that has meant so much to all of us these past weeks.

Need some Zoom help? We’ve added a handy guide on the church website: http://www.uccwestboro.org/my-church/online-worship

Today’s worship service will be recorded and streamed live on Facebook.

Please sign up for our weekly ENEWS bulletin and announcements by contacting us at [email protected]

When recording and live streaming has ended, our moderators will enable you to turn on your microphone and camera. This process may take a few minutes, but we will get to everyone as soon as we can. TODAY’S SCRIPTURE READING Luke 24:13-35 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

On the Road to Emmaus

13 Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles[a] from

Jerusalem. 14 They were talking with each other about

everything that had happened. 15 As they talked and

discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came

up and walked along with them; 16 but they were kept from

recognizing him.

17 He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you

walk along?”

They stood still, their faces downcast. 18 One of them,

named Cleopas, asked him, “Are you the only one visiting

Jerusalem who does not know the things that have

happened there in these days?”

19 “What things?” he asked.

“About Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “He was a

prophet, powerful in word and deed before God and all the

people. 20 The chief priests and our rulers handed him over

to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him; 21 but we

had hoped that he was the one who was going to redeem

Israel. And what is more, it is the third day since all this took place. 22 In addition, some of our women amazed

us. They went to the tomb early this morning 23 but didn’t find his body. They came and told us that they had

seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive. 24 Then some of our companions went to the tomb and found it

just as the women had said, but they did not see Jesus.”

25 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Did not

the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the

Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.

28 As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if he were going

farther. 29 But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over.” So he

went in to stay with them.

30 When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to

them. 31 Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him,and he disappeared from their sight. 32 They

asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the

Scriptures to us?”

33 They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and those with them,

assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two

told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

CAN YOU HELP CONNECT? We are looking for a few good folk who would like to be deputized as Deacons for this time. Don't worry, you are not being signed up. You are being deputized during this pandemic. Our current deacons could use some help. We have all the church member households divided into precincts. They are quite large. Our intent (as many churches are doing) is to connect with our members at least once a week. Called to Care members are also assigned but they too are stretched. Are you someone who can send out a weekly email to a smaller neighborhood group or 10-12 households? Can you make an occasional phone call to those who most need our connection? If so, please let Rev. Sue ASAP or Elaine Moore. We will assign folk and set up a first contact email for you to send along with emails for this group. Rev. Sue will also send along guidelines and possible questions to ask our members. PLEASE HELP US STAY CONNECTED. We will consider non-member households if we get enough volunteers. As an aside, Rev. Sue received an email from a member of her home church suggesting just this thing and it was a wonderful thing indeed!

PCC

The Pastoral Counseling Centers of MA, Inc. would like to make sure everyone knows that we are open for business, just in a different way. Though we are not having face to face sessions, all of our 11 therapists are still meeting with clients via "teletherapy" as in phone conversations, FaceTime, Skype, Zoom or other means that are agreed upon by the client and therapist. In these trying times of raised anxiety, it is important to have support. Know that we are available and receiving referrals. If you hear of relatives, friends or neighbors who may be struggling, feel free to let them know we are open and would be pleased to be able to help. You can email us at [email protected] or call our main office at #508-366-4000. Mary Taber
