Parent Teacher Guild April 28, 2021
Dear Parents,
The month of April is a very busy month at St. Louise de
Marillac School. The students will hopefully soon have a
consistent outdoor time at recess and spring activities are in
full swing. April marks an important month for learning and
achievement as students are preparing to move onto the next
grade level.
At St. Louise De Marillac School, our charge is to utilize
assessment data in an on-going way as a means to guide
instruction and measure learning. The essential question in
using assessment data in this way is: How do we analyze
assessment data, grow professionally, and implement
instructional practices that positively impact students and
move them to higher levels of understanding and
performance over time? We want our students to be
confident and successful when approaching a variety of
learning experiences in life. Therefore, we not only teach
basic skills and knowledge, we also teach “habits of mind”
that will enable students to process and extend information
throughout their lives. As this work continues, we give our
students the training to go beyond the simple application of
a skill and extend meaning beyond simply restating a fact.
God Bless,
Mr. Klase

5Th Grade Mission The Fifth grades
have been very
busy learning
many interesting
facts of galaxies,
the planets, and
following the NASA Mars progress through
Science current events! We saw the “flight”
of Ingenuity on Mars, minute as it appeared
to be, we discussed progress on a planet
very different than ours where flight has
been “second nature” soon after the Wright
Brothers.
We have been following the growth (from
hatching to present) of the Hays bald eagles
and their progress. We have had wonderful
times discussing their progress, how their
life and progress can be compared to human
life and have been able to giggle with some
comic similarities!
Somehow Science becomes “real” when it is
current! I so enjoy them and their interest!
~Mrs. Whisker
The Fabulous Firsties
We have been so busy in First Grade. It is
amazing how much we have grown and
what we can now do. We have completed
two chapter book studies of Poppleton and
Frog and Toad are Friends. We will finish
the year off with The Littles and The
Infamous Ratso. It is exciting to be able to
read such long books. We have learned to
tell time to the hour and half hour. Our
math facts are coming along with practicing
each day. We are studying the life cycle unit in Science and are anxiously awaiting
for our caterpillars to hatch into
butterflies! We are excited to be
learning so many new
and fun things!
Forensics Update The following students performed speeches
last week 4/14 and 4/15 and were judged by
our three STL judges. Congratulations to
the following students on a job well done.

Third Grade
Happenings
Lots of
excitement and
hard work is
happening in
Grade 3. We
have been
reading the
classic novels
from the Children's Choice book list. It
looks like Charlotte's Web is a third grade
favorite. We have designed posters for the
Children's Choice Award to highlight our
favorite selections.
In science, we have conducted experiments
using magnets to learn about noncontact
forces and different size balls with ramps to
see how mass can affect an object's motion!
In math class, we are learning about
fractions
and in
religion
class, we
are
learning
more
about the
two
Sacraments of Healing: Reconciliation and
Anointing of the Sick.
On Earth Day, we watched videos that
accompanied the online book, "Plastics" on
Lightbox, a special subscription service that
we have through Scholastic. We want to
celebrate Earth Day every day so we
decided to become superheroes and think of
new ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Some of us drew pictures, and some of us
wrote poems to remember the importance of
saving our Earth and making it better for
future generations. We know we can make
a big difference when we work together.

One at a Time: Faculty Spotlight Mrs. Makowski- School Secretary
1) How long have you been at St. Louise?
This is my 6th year here at St. Louise
2) What is something people don’t know about you?
I am the youngest of 7 and we all went to school here at St. Louise! My husband and I
continued the tradition and sent our 2 kids here as well.
3) What is your all-time favorite movie?
My kids love the Marvel movies and they have rubbed off on me! Who doesn't love a
good superhero movie?! I know I do and it is hard to pick which one would be my
favorite - maybe Captain Marvel?
