As you research opportunities to locate a business or develop in down-

town San Jose, here are some snapshots to help you get better

acquainted with the area.

The Downtown business scene contains a diverse assortment of entre-

preneurs, tech companies, professional service, creative industry and

other startups/entrepreneurial businesses. Downtown’s tech scene is

vibrant and emerging, and many of these �rms have global headquarters

located in downtown San Jose, such as; Adobe, Acer, Oracle, Xactly,

ThreatMetrix, and Pinger.

Downtown is home to more than 1.4 million square feet of retail �lled by

diverse small mom and mop businesses and global chains. This translates

into restaurants and cafes, active nightlife, retail shops, cultural activities

and entertainment venues activating these spaces day and night, with

new entries to the market each month. Notably, Downtown is served by

a full-service Safeway Market, and recently welcomed the second west

coast store of Japanese retailer MUJI.

Daytime population numbers in Downtown reach over 145,000 within a

three-mile radius. And with its strategic location at Highway 87 and Inter-

state 280, and its adjacency to Diridon Station – one can quickly reach

the San Jose International Airport, or other points in the Bay Area and

Silicon Valley from the City center.

The pace of residential construction has been increasing in and around

downtown. These exciting developments are bringing more people and

tra�c downtown at night and on weekends, and the pace continues.

Several museums and galleries de�ne the cultural hub of Downtown,

including the San Jose Museum of Art, the Tech Museum and Children’s

Discovery Museum. The popular SoFA district hosts cultural venues, like

the California Theater and emerging tech/arts center Zero1, and events,

such as First Fridays art walks, its annual SubZero festival.

Each year, over 300 days of event programming activate downtown,

bringing and keeping people downtown to explore – ranging from

Friday Farmers Markets to music festivals and outdoor movie screenings

to professional women’s networking.
