Typography

I’ve named my artist Gypsy, linking to her brand and the idea that she is lost- rootless. This is also

echoed in the music video as she is wandering around the forest.

Typography is significant for portraying the artist and their brand. As the artist become more

popular, the typography of the artist’s name is something that fans identify the artist by. Some

famous typography are shown below:

FKA Twig’s typography has an indexical code of a classic type write font. There are a number of key

signifiers that a niche audience for the alternative music genre would be attracted to. The classic

font connotes Twig’s knowledge of her history and awareness of music that came before. It shows

her intelligence and understanding of classic literature which informs her music. The font pays

homage to this and is traditional in a non-conformist sense.

Below are some of the fonts that I am experimenting with to create a logo that represents the

artist’s brand. I want the logo to be feminine, yet eerie and I think cursive fonts fit that description.

Gypsy- blackladder ITC

Feminine, sophisticated, strong, eerie, shaky, not too contrived.

Gypsy-Bradley Hand ITC

Nice, but too simple and not feminine enough

Nice and bold but the dark colour of the font is too gloomy

Gypsy- curlz MT

Feminine, free flowing, airy and light. Perhaps too optimistic for the genre of music, the brand and

artist’s message.

More suitable, but too humorous and optimistic

Gypsy-Edwardian Script ITC Feminine and sophisticated, but too classy and contrived.
