A four-season recreational communityA four-season recreational communityA four-season recreational communityA four-season recreational communityBelow we've included general descriptions and links as applicable to activities
available in Sunriver and the surrounding area. A variety of equipment is
available for rent from businesses in The Village at Sunriver to help you enjoy
your favorite sport or activity.
BICYCLING: Sunriver boasts 30+ miles of paved pathways for bicycle and
pedestrian use. For safety reasons, rollerblading, skates and skateboards are not
allowed on pathways or roads. Please follow Sunriver's pathway rules and respect
the delicate vegetation by staying on the pavement. Maps are available at
pathway kiosks, bike rental agencies, realty offices and at the SROA office.
Looking for something more adventurous? Try the off-pavement trails to Benham
Falls - download MAP. Click HERE for other cycling routes around Sunriver and
throughout Deschutes County.
BOATING, CANOEING, KAYAKING, RAFTING: Floating or paddling the Deschutes
River can be relaxing, scenic and great exercise. Boats, canoes, kayaks, paddle
boards, tubes and rafts are available at the marina or other area rental shops in
the Village at Sunriver. Anyone can launch at Harper Bridge, located at Sunriver's
southwest corner and take out just before Benham Falls. (See the SROA Sunriver
map for the canoe takeout road access from near circle 7.) Or launch farther
upstream at Big River Campground and take out at Harper Bridge (the Harper
Bridge launch is rustic and not maintained. It is most suitable for hand-launching
canoes/kayaks/tubes/rafts).
NOTE: ACCESS to the Resort's marina launch/take out ramp will be restricted to
hand-launching only during marina hours of operation for Sunriver property
owners and guests. After hours or when the marina is closed, both hand and
trailer launching will be allowed.
Guided whitewater raft trips can be arranged through various local outfitters.
FISHING: Anglers can find just about all the challenges they would like on the
Deschutes, Fall (fly fishing only) or Spring rivers. Good fishing is also available
within an hour on lakes along Cascade Lakes Highway. Licenses may be obtained
in the Village, Sunriver Business Park, or at the marina. Fishing seasons are
variable, usually beginning late April at lower elevations and by late May at the
higher lakes. Guided trips can be arranged through local outfitters.
FLYING: Scenic charter flights over Sunriver and Central Oregon are available
from the Sunriver Airport. 541.593.1860.
GEOCACHING: Grab your GPS and enjoy a modern-day treasure hunt! There are
numerous geocaches hidden within Sunriver's boundaries and hundreds of others
within a 10-mile radius. Visit www.geocaching.com, type in the zip code 97707 to
get the GPS coordinates of what's hidden locally.
GOLF: Two 18-hole courses - Woodlands and Meadows - are operated by Sunriver
Resort. Lessons are available at both courses. Men's and ladies' golf groups play
weekly. There are also courses at Crosswater and Caldera Springs, but have
limited public access unless you are a guest of Sunriver Resort. 541.593.1000.

- Tubing: Tubing hill at SHARC. Access main entrance on Overlook Road off
circle 2. Tubes provided; no sleds or other snow play toys allowed.
- Cross-country skiing/snowshoeing: Cross-country skiing can be done almost
anywhere there is snow within Sunriver, including on the golf courses. Skiers are
asked to stay on the fairways and off the greens and tees (which are usually
cordoned off with rope).
Unless the snow is really deep, snowshoers should stick to the pathways and
use caution not to walk on tracks created by cross-country skiers. The best
pathway is the one that begins near Sunriver Lodge and follows the Deschutes
River before connecting back with the pathway near Harper Bridge. Crews usually
leave this path unplowed.
SKIING/BOARDING/SLEDDING: Cross-country skiing can be delightful in Sunriver,
where you can ski on snow-covered pathways and golf course fairways. Some of
the finest downhill skiing on the West Coast is available just 30 minutes away at
Mt. Bachelor. Equipment rentals and Sno-Park permits are available at various
locations in the village. Mt. Bachelor also offers excellent downhill and cross-
country skiing through the countryside and on the groomed trails. There is also a

Bill Healy founded Mt. Bachelor Ski Area December 19, 1958 with a rope tow and a single lift. Mt.
Bachelor has since grown to be one of the largest ski resorts in the U.S. The resort boasts a wide variety
of terrain. Guests can ski or ride 360 degrees off the summit, hike the adjoining cinder cone for a thrilling
run down, or, ski the trees to find that great cache of powder!
Not only is Mt. Bachelor a great place for expert skiers and riders to get that burn, it is also a fantastic
place to learn a snow sport or take the family for an exciting day out. Carrousel, our free beginners lift,
offers an easy ride up and gentle slope down. There are also numerous lesson packages to choose from;
check out our link to snow sport services.
Conveniently located just 22 miles west of Bend, Mt. Bachelor’s season is one of the longest in the
Northwest, usually starting in November by Thanksgiving and lasting well into May. Surrounded by the tall
hemlocks and pines of the Deschutes National Forest and breathtaking views of the Three Sisters and
other Cascade peaks, you are sure to enjoy that mountain experience you seek at Mt. Bachelor!
Encounter wild eagles, owls, otters, bobcat, lynx, porcupines and other High Desert animals in natural habitats. Experience Native American and Western art and culture through fun and interactive exhibits.
