FORT SMITHLITTLE THEATRE

History of the FSLT Harlequin ManIn the early 1960s, Al Reis, owner of Reis Art Gallery and School, and JayAnderson, one of his instructors, created the piece of sculpture that has come tobe known as the Harlequin Man. It stood outside our first theatre on North “O”Street for more than two decades, and thus became a symbol of FSLT.Unfortunately, over the years, the elements took their toll. When we moved toour current location on North 6th Street, a patron, Louis Robinson, cleaned andrepainted it before moving it to our new lobby in 1987. In 1994, thanks to thelate Mickey Suggs, the structure was repaired and glass was replaced. In 2013,the Harlequin Man underwent a facelift sponsored by Paula and Steve Sharumand was then moved to a place of honor as part of our lobby renovation.Positioned on a raised platform in our center window, the colorful Harlequinman is now prominently displayed for all FSLT patrons to enjoy.

CCaasstt BBiiooss:: Victoria Jones: Some of my favorite roles have been Shelby in ‘Steel Magnolias’, Meg in ‘Leading Ladies’, and Deenie in ‘Splendor in the Grass’. The advice I would give 15 year old me would be to follow my heart, unless Adam Levine walks by – then follow him… Brittany Redding: My favorite would be the role of Millie in ‘Thoroughly Modern Millie’, because her character was just as dorky and awkward as I am. If I could give 15 year old me advice on love, it would be that ‘when one door closes, another will open – don’t allow that of your past, determine your future.’ Lindsay Vickery: My favorite role I’ve ever played has to be Fiona in ‘Shrek, the Muscial’. If I could give my 15 year old self love advice, I would say what my parents remind me, “go to school, make good grades, and get a degree. There’s nothing wrong with having some fun and then falling in love. It’s worth the wait.” I love you guys! Summer Ferguson: My favorite role was Juliet in ‘Romeo & Juliet’, because it was a beautiful challenge, and was a stretch for my personality. Advice about love – I’d say, “listen to your parents and take their advice about dating and boys, because THEY ARE RIGHT.” Eric Wells: Advice to give my 15 year old self on love – “don’t fall so easily, be patient, for the right one will be around the corner.” Valerie Baldwin: My advice on love to my 15 year old self is simple – it is worth the wait. Love you Zack! Landon Satterfield: The only thing I’d tell my 15 year old self would be, “Stop wasting time; work on your integrity!” David Harris: If I was to give myself love advice at 15, I would say – steer clear of the crazy ones. Will Padget: For my advice, I would simply say, “Don’t mess it up…!” Joe Graham: My advice to my 15 year old self is, “Let It Go!” Hannah Curlin: My advice on love to my 15 year old self, “whether God’s plan is for you to remain single or to marry, view it as a blessing.” Brandon Bolin: If I were to give my 15 year old self love advice, it would be – to be patient – which is what, coincidentally, I would need him to say right back to me now…! Aaron Ray: My advice about love is to always lay all your cards out on the table, even if they were all Pokemon cards at the time. Jennifer Canada: I would advice my 15 year old self on love that, indeed, when

someone shows you who they really are, believe them. Carole Rogers: My advice on love to my 15 year old self is – if you are blessed enough to find it; treasure it, nurture it, and hand on to it tight.

PPrroodduuccttiioonn NNootteess:: The play is performed in two acts. Act One runs approximately for one hour and fifteen minutes, while Act Two runs approximately for fifty minutes.

DDiirreeccttoorr’’ss NNootteess:: I am blessed to have a wonderful cast and crew. The stage

is bare, and as such, requires much more from the people on and behind the stage to make the play successful. Costumes,

hair, lighting come alive, and talented actors breathe life into a story that was generations old before their grandparents were born.

Jane Austen wrote a funny story that often is lost in the dust of ages, beautiful costumes, and stuffy British accents. I hope you leave believing that true romantic comedy transcends time and place. ~ DUFF TAYLOR

CCaasstt BBiiooss:: Michael Richardson: Adjunct Professor at UAFS and ESL volunteer at the Literacy Council. I have played about 50 roles on the FSLT Stage. I have enjoyed all of them! Advice to my 15 year old self – don’t be shy!

Micki Voelkel: I am a certifiable Jane Austen nut, so the ridiculous Mrs. Bennet is a dream part. My favorite role was yet another manipulative matchmaking mother – Boo Levy in ‘The Last Night of Ballyhoo’. If I could give my 15 year old self relationship advice, I would tell her “love and respect yourself first – only then can you be happy with another person.”

Ian Miller: My favorite character would have to be the time I played Bud Stamper in ‘Splendor in the Grass’ here at FSLT. It gave me a chance to see what I was capable of in a serious part, instead of my traditional comical roles. No advice needed sir – “You are uniformly charming.”

Sarah Curlin: I am a huge Jane Austen fan! Playing Lizzie has been a dream come true, and this is my favorite role! I am excited that I get to be in

another Austen production with my Austen-sister Hannah! I also loved playing Mrs. Elton in ‘Emma’,

and Kate in ‘Pirates of Penzance’. It is such an honor to get to be a part of such a talented cast and crew.

My advice to my 15 year old self is – be true to yourself and be content where the Lord leads you in life.
