IntroductionLaramie County School District #2 will be transitioning to a Google based email and document system in 2014-

2015. In addition, our school district will implement a 1:1 Chromebook laptop plan for all students and teachers. In

order to prepare for this transition, LCSD #2 will be offering a 2 day training before school starts in order to

introduce teachers to both Chromebooks and Google Apps. This training will cover basic Chromebook use and

features, Google Apps for Education, and provide opportunities for grade level and content area collaboration. This

is the first of many trainings that will be offered to improve teacher and student use of the Chromebooks and

Google Apps. Our hope is that every LCSD#2 teacher and staff member will feel prepared to use Chromebooks in

the classroom and develop learning opportunities for students that meet Tier 3 (Powerful Student-Centered 21t

Century Learning Environment) requirements that engage students in collaborative learning activities.

    What are Chromebooks?

Chromebooks are a Google-based laptops that run the Google Chrome operating system. They come with built-in

virus protection and utilize the cloud for storage. Chromebooks rely on an internet connection and applications on

the web, such as Google Apps for Education, rather than applications that are stored on the computer hard drive.

What are Google Apps for Education?

A free suite of online applications for educational use, including email, calendars, documents, spreadsheets,

presentations, wiki sites, and many more. Google Apps offer online storage for each user and protection settings

can be changed for school district security.

    Pre-Training Survey

Before the professional development training next Fall, teachers are asked to complete our pre-training

survey (pages 7-9). This will provide us background information regarding current technology use and

    previous experience with Google Apps.

    Post-Training Survey

At the completion of the training in 2013-2014, teachers will be asked to complete a post-training survey (pages

10-12). This will provide us necessary information regarding additional training possibilities and areas of

    Goals

SMART Goals are Specific, Measurable,Attainable, Realistic, and Time bound.

    1. Teachers will complete training on Chromebook features and Google Apps for Education during the 2013-2014 school year and implement both technologies during the 2014-2015 school year.

    2. After training, teachers will develop a minimum of five student-centered technology lessons by May 2014and implement at minimum of five student centered technology lessons during the 2014-2015 school year.

Course Questions1. Are the goals SMART?The goals for this training were listed on page 4. They include 1)Teachers will complete training on

Chromebook features and Google Apps for Education during the 2013-2014 school year and implement

both technologies during the 2014-2015 school year; and 2)After training, teachers will develop a

minimum of five student-centered technology lessons by May 2014 and implement at minimum of five

student centered technology lessons during the 2014-2015 school year.

These goals meet the SMART goal format and are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time bound

    a. Professional development goals that will improve all students learning?Yes. These goals focus on preparing teachers to integrate district-wide technology. Both

teachers and students will have access to both Chromebooks and Google Apps. Teachers must learn

how to use the technology and identify resources for lesson development. Specifically, goal number

2 addresses the requirement of teachers to develop a minimum of five student-centered technology

embedded lessons by May 2014.b. Professional development goals that will improve teacher effectiveness?

Yes. Teachers who are well trained on the use of Chromebooks and Google Apps will be more

effective at providing learning opportunities that promote 21stcentury skills.

    c. Professional development goals that differentiates the learning?Yes. District lesson plans and the student-centered technology enhanced lessons must

incorporate plans to differentiate learning and provide both remediation and enrichment.

    2. What activities are planned?a. See Schedule and Overview on pages four and five.

    3. What are expected outcomes?a. Expected outcomes include increased comfort levels with both Chromebooks and Google Apps,

increased utilization of Chromebooks and Google Apps, increased student-centered, technology

rich lesson plan development, and increased number of teachers going to paperless classrooms.

    4. How will the learning be measured?a. Learning will be measured through formative assessment, observation, and questioning during

the training. In addition, teachers are required to develop lesson plans integrating

Chromebooks and Google Apps. Technology staff will be available to provide additional

assistance with lesson development and troubleshooting.

    5. How will you ensure the learning returns to the classroom?a. Teachers are required to develop lesson plans integrating Chromebooks and Google Apps in

order to promote 21stcentury skills. Technical assistance and additional training will be

provided to promote technology use and lesson plan development integrating technology.6. How will you measure the outcome on student learning?

    a. Surveys will be given to students and teachers to measure the impact of Chromebooks andGoogle Apps before and after implementation. We will measure topics such as motivation,

engagement, knowledge attainment, collaboration, critical thinking skills, and comfort levels.
