HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATIONGreetings Friends & Neighbors:

Didn’t I just write my article? Well, it seems that way! Last month I referred to a

popular movie that was released in October of 1990. If you read last month’s newsletter, you’ll recall that I referred to the line used by the main character, played by Patrick Swayze, who responded “Ditto” when Molly, Demi Moore, said she loved Sam. Well, this character is saying “Ditto” again this month. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has managed to restrict our socializing in Holiday Park. In my opinion that is OK because it is keeping us all safe and more importantly healthy.

I would like to take this opportunity to say “THANK YOU” to Brett Mounsey, Men’s Club President, and his crew of volunteers, for making Holiday Park look so good for the July 4th Celebration. The Men’s Club is responsible for the placement, removal, and maintenance of the American Flags dis-played along Tuscola Blvd. and Holiday Park. Blvd., during special holidays.

When I sat down to write this article, I honestly attempted to keep the content at a positive, and occasionally, light level. I will be the first to acknowledge that, that is not the case for this month! Regrettably, I be-lieve that certain topics need to be openly and honestly addressed.

I want to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” to the Beautification Committee, and the volunteers that have been working with Beautification, to enhance the natural beauty of Holiday Park. I hope you have had an opportunity to observe the new, rather large, blue ceramic pots, purchased by the HOA. This is an ongoing project of your HOA, in cooperation with our Park Manager, to en-hance Holiday Parks appearance. The new ceramic pots are in the area in front of the Phase 1 hall where the flagpole is located. Earlier I said that “I honestly attempt to keep the content of this newsletter at a positive,

and occasionally, light level.”Unfortunately, this is where I deviate from that philoso-

phy! In the same area, referenced above, on either side of the doors to the Club House/Phase 1 Building there are two (2) rather large urns. The Beautification Committee pur-chased flowers to place in those urns for ALL to enjoy. Re-gretfully I must tell you that an unknown individual decided to remove two of the freshly placed plants for, I assume, his or her own personal use and pleasure! To that individual I say, in the future if you need flowers to plant in YOUR flower bed, do what the HOA, and most residence of the Park do, PURCHASE YOUR OWN! If you need more plants to brighten your Coach, I would be happy to buy them for you if you just leave the HOA’s plantings alone. They are not there for you to take!!

Before I leave the Beautification Committee, I ‘d like to ask you a question or two or maybe more! Do you enjoy play-ing in the dirt? Do you enjoy the company of friendly vol-unteers? Do you enjoy the beauty of nature and the plants and flowers found there? Well the Beautification Committee is looking for YOU! All that is necessary is a love of nature and

gardening and a phone call to Leonne Bombardier at 941-423-2320! It is that easy! Go ahead, give it a try! Thank You! You will not regret it.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say “Thank You” to Doug Boughton for his handling of Holiday Parks Logo items. Doug is leaving Holiday Park after the passing of his wife, Jean, so he can be closer to his family. We wish you well.

Speaking of Logo items, the following will be available for purchase at the Men’s Club Shed on Monday’s for the remain-ing of the summer. The prices are listed as follows: “SIZE-REGU-LAR PRICE/SALE PRICE”. Thank you to Brett, the Men’s Club and the “Ladies” who agreed to assume the extra work.

those individuals who reside in Holiday Park that simply can-not remember that the Park has NOT changed the speed limit from the current 15 MPH! See, I can remain positive! (At least I’m trying!)

Finally, one more unpleasant word for thought. I have re-ceived complaints regarding certain dog owners, who walk their pets and forget to bring a baggie to bring “Fido’s Gift” home for disposal. I am sure it is an oversight, but PLEASE be more considerate of your neighbor’s and do your part to keep “OUR” Park clean! Thank You!!

Here is a final thought for your consideration:“If you act like a child, you should expect to be treated as a

child. If you act like an adult, you should expect to be treated as an adult.” – Anonymous Wishing you Peace and Continued Good Health, John E. Rabideau, President, HOA

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

The Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting on Fri-day, July 31st to

consider, among other issues, a contract for removal and re-placement of the PH 2 pool coping. Pavers on the coping are coming loose and soon may be dangerous. The plan is to re-move the pavers and build a new coping and apron around the pool with filled travertine marble. This is the latest technology for community pools and is approved by the Florida Depart-ment of Health. When work begins, the pool may be closed for a week or so. Other items may include a contract to re-land-scape the front entrance to the Park at Tamiami and Tuscola.

The meeting will take place following the Trustee’s annual review of the Florida Sunshine Law, which is required by our by-laws. Training will take place on the Zoom platform on-line at 10 am and will be led by Legal Counsel Andrew Cohen. Resi-dents are encouraged to attend. The Trustee meeting will also take place during the same Zoom session, beginning at ap-proximately 10:30 am. The link and password for the training and meeting is listed elsewhere in this newsletter. Again, your participation is encouraged.

Work on the PH 2 building has been delayed by the illness

of Bernie Mullen, our head of maintenance, who is expected back to work in early August. Considering the amount of work for the two remaining maintenance staff members, we have decided to contract out the PH 2 building exterior renovation. The renovation will be accomplished within the budget estab-lished by the Board and will be paid from reserved funds.

The City of North Port continues to replace water laterals and meters in front of many of our homes. This is at no cost to homeowners, but be aware that when the Water Department is working in your neighborhood, you may suffer loss of wa-ter pressure for about fifteen minutes at a time, and have air and rust in your lines. The Department tells us that there is no health hazard, however if they are working in your neighbor-hood, you may wish to delay washing clothes.

Like a broken record, but necessary for the health and safety of us all, please follow all the posted guidelines for use of the court facilities, pools, laundry, Men’s Club Boutique and office visits. The majority of our residents comply which helps to keep us all safe, but a few ornery scofflaws insist on making up their own rules. Those residents are jeopardizing the health and right of all residents to use the facilities, because if violations continue to occur, and especially due to the resurgence of the virus in Florida, trustees and management will have no choice but to close the facilities.

I’m the guy at the deep end of the pool wearing a mask! Have a great summer. Dick Gortz, Chairman

FYIWater Line Construction. North Port Utilities has notified

us that they will be working in Holiday Park throughout the summer months replacing lateral water pipes, that is the pipe which runs from the water main to the water meter in front of your coach. These old galvanized pipes are beyond their life expectancy and have been breaking throughout the Park. New water meters are also being installed. Each home may be out of water for about 20 minutes while the connection is made. There is no additional cost to Holiday Park or homeowners for this replacement.

HURRICANE INFOTo all residents that are medically-dependent residing in

Holiday Park during hurricane season. Please contact Sarasota County and apply NOW for registration as a medically-depen-dent person (MDP). Examples are use of oxygen or medical equipment that requires electricity. It is important to apply in advance for this program so, if qualified, you will be on the county’s registry for transportation and sheltering at a medical-ly-dependent Evacuation Center during a disaster. Pre-registra-tion is required. To apply or for more information visit scgov.net and search for medical needs or call 941-861-5000.District Manager, Tess Schofield

June 1st - November 30th IS HURRICANE SEASON... ARE YOU READY?By John E. Rabideau

We are all aware that the Hurricane Season began on June 1st and will run through November 30th. Since we all reside in a mobile home, we need to be extra vigilant when a hurricane is fast approaching. There are several things to keep in mind.

Mobile Home residents should NEVER stay inside a mobile home to ride out a hurricane. Mobile home residents MUST evacuate for any hurricane order given in the county, regard-less of location within the county.

At-Home Healthcare & Homebound Patients should tell their home health agency and oxygen company where they

Page 4: 5401HOLIDAYPARKBLVD•NORTHPORT,FL AAssociation

HOLIDAY PARK AUGUST, 20204

will be during a hurricane. Ask them about their plans to pro-vide care. If you are homebound, but not under the care of a home health agency, contact your physician to determine your best plan of action.

If you do evacuate, remember to take your medications, written instructions regarding your care, any special equip-ment you will require as well as your bedding with you.

If you will need assistance in an evacuation or need to go to a special needs/medically dependent shelter/evacuation cen-ter, please register with Sarasota County’s emergency manage-ment agency now.

These are but a few of the steps you should take to keep you and yours safe during a hurricane. For more specific infor-mation check with Holiday Parks office to see if they have any more All-Hazards Disaster Planning Guide, The official guide for Sarasota County. Are you ready? The preceding information was obtained from the All-Hazard Disaster Planning Guide.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTSIf you have had changes with your address, please update

this information in the office. We have had several mailings over the months and mail has been returned to us with no forward-ing address. It is also necessary to update your phone number if you have had any changes. Thank you:) Tess Schofield , Park Manager

BICICYLE REGULATIONSNote for residents in Holiday Park: Two items from the 55

Alive Driving Class that are especially pertinent in Holiday Park. GOLF CARTS AND BIKERS MUST FOLLOW THE SAME RULES AS CARS. GOLF CARTS AND BIKERS MUST RIDE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AT ALL TIMES. A 3-foot clearance between each vehicle. Also, all cars going by or around bikers must leave a 3-foot clearance. Please keep this in mind when traveling in Holiday Park. A simple test in your own driveway, is to layout something the height of a biker or vehicle and sit behind the wheel of your car.

We will be enjoying a Perfect Day at Coco cay, Bahamas - Royal Caribbean’s newest private island, along with stops at San Juan, Puerto Rico and Phillipsburg, St. Maarten. There will also be 3 additional days at sea.

Inside cabins start at $959.69 per person. Balconies as low as $1,267.69 per person. These prices include all taxes and fees. Insurance and gratuities are additional. A $250 deposit per per-son is required at time of booking. It’s best to book early to get the best choice of cabins and before prices increase.

Friends and family outside the park are also welcome. For further information, contact Yvonne Warner at 734-776-6592 or e-mail [email protected] . If there are enough participants, we will try to get a bus from the park at an ad-ditional cost.

PHOTO DIRECTORYThought you might like an update on what is going on with

our Photo Directory. As you might guess Life Touch (The com-pany that took the photos) is not providing an essential service during this pandemic. Therefore, I cannot even begin to guess when work will start on getting the proofs to me. Once I re-ceive them and review everything then it goes back to them to print.

Anyone who ordered photos, when Life Touch is produc-ing again you should receive your order. All residents that are waiting on your free 8x10 those will be sent to the office and a notice will be on the Tuscola sign. Thank you for your under-standing in this matter.

Hope you are all doing well with our "new normal". Stay safe and healthy.Mary Margaret, Photo Directory Coordinator.

CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR Thought since we are all in lock down all over the Country, I

would give you something to do with your spare time. Our An-nual Christmas Fair will be taking place on Sunday, November 22, 2020. Just a wee bit of my thoughts relative to our "normal living" - try to find something to smile (or even laugh) at every day. It helps. Mary Margaret Bryant
