The safety factor in pressingThe unsurpassed advantage of pressconnections is easy installation in just a few seconds. However, the Profipress,like all Viega press systems, adds anadditional safety factor: the Viega SC-Contur. Leaks are detected in con-nections that were inadvertently notpressed.

Central leakage test with SC-Contur (1)Viega is the first in the market to guaran-tee leak tests for a complete installationcentrally from the manometer, provided

SC-Contur is used consistently through-out the installation. The central leakagetest provides greater safety and conve-nience. There is no more need to make a visual inspection of each individualpress connection. If connections are accidentally not pressed, media escape,which causes the pressure to drop on the manometer.The SC-Contur works in the approvedpressure ranges and test times withcompressed air and water. Performing a

dry leakage and load test instead of a wet one reduces hygienic risks.Hygienic risks are posed by waterstanding in the pipe between the time of the test and when the system is firstfilled for operation.

To protect the sealing element fromdamage during assembly, all Viegapress connections have cylindrical pipeguides which, together with doublepressing, provide additional safety.

Safety through patented tools (2)The safety concept of Viega press systems includes another importantelement: the press machine, which runseither on batteries or external electricalpower. It is used to perform a doublepressing in each work step, both beforeand after the crimp. Audio signals con-firm the process has been performedcorrectly.

Legal requirementsDrinking water is one of our most important life-sustaining substances.The German Drinking Water Ordinance(TrinkwV), which became law on 01.01.2003 recognises this fact throughincreased microbiological, chemical, andphysical requirements. The essence and intent of the law are as follows: the quality of drinking water must beensured at every removal point. Installers,planners and operators are held respon-sible for observing the Drinking WaterOrdinance, especially for public buildingssuch as schools, hospitals or swimmingpools.

Expertise as an opportunityThe more stringent provisions forhygienic drinking water represent achallenge. It is especially important inthese circumstances to demonstratecompetence – and to offer a press sys-tem that will always meet all relevantrequirements: Profipress from Viega.The pipe materials, pipe dimensioningand installation are the critical factorsfor permanently maintaining the qualityof drinking water. The Viega advantageDrinking water installation is inherently a demanding task. For example, pipedimensions must be designed minimallyand cold water pipes must be as far as possible from heat sources. At thesame time, hydraulic balance must beensured in the circulation system. Tofacilitate reliable and efficient installa-tion while meeting all these require-ments, Viega offers a convenient CADprogramme that takes into considera-tion the requirements of the DrinkingWater Ordinance. Drinking water connections with water rinsingSelecting the right technology is espe-cially important at removal points that arerarely used. With Sanpress press con-nectors (1), the new Sanpress doubleshear wall and the Sanpress shear wall T-piece, nothing else stands in the way of hygienically optimised system designfor ring or series piping systems or otherinstallations. The Sanpress assemblyunit (2) for membrane expansion vesselsalso allows for easy installation, provid-ing flow-through of connection points.

The watermeter system with built-in Easytop sys-tem shut-off valve is also integrated into the drinking water system. The circulation manager (1)There are two challenges facing hotwater distribution: 1. A maximum tem-perature range of 60 °C between hotwater outlet and 55 °C at the circulationinlet for the water heater. 2. Sufficient circulation to maintain the temperaturelevel. Easytop circulation regulating val-ves are the ideal solution for both. Withenhanced hydraulics, they can increasecomfort and hygiene. At the same time,they can reduce energy consumptionand costs. They are available in twodesigns: firstly, the circulation valve forthermal regulation with independent dis-infection module and, secondly, it can beequipped with an electrical drive for pro-gram-controlled disinfection.

Economical installation with system:Smartloop inliner technology (2)Normally, circulation water is fed into aseparate circulation pipe next to the hotwater pipe. With the one-pipe principleof the Smartloop Inliner technology, thesupply and return lines are consolidatedinto one pipe. For central drinking waterheating systems, this is an economicalmethod of laying cables as the separatepipe for the circulation water is not required.

This means a second cable is super-fluous, the installation shaft is smallerand the loss of heat is lower. The assem-bly efforts are also reduced as there is one tapping hole less required foreach level. At the same time, the costsfor pipe insulation in accordance withEnEV (German Energy Savings Regula-tion) are halved together with the costsfor fire prevention measures in the ceil-ing ducts.

Simple: connection to hot water tank (3)Viega offers a multitude of threadedconnections with a press connection –this means the transition from hot watertank to press technology is no problem.

Removable pressure test plugThe practical pressure test plug is sim-ply screwed to the pressed end. It canbe used as often as required simply byloosening the screw connection.

The main advantage ismore safety and reliability. Profipress G is certified for nearly all installations withflammable media: for gas in accordancewith DVGW (German Association forGas and Water), liquefied gas in accor-dance with DVFG (German Associationfor Liquefied Gas) as well as heating oiland diesel power pipes in accordancewith DIBT (German Institute for BuildingTechnology). With yellow marking, a yel-low HNBR sealing element and the yel-low dot of the SC-Contur, Profipress Goffers the highest level of safety.

Active protection against manipulationThe advantages of natural gas use in-clude easy delivery of the fuel directlyinto your house. In order to counteractmanipulation, the TRGI (Technical Regu-lations for Gas Installations) requirepassive and, especially, active mea-sures, whereby the active measuresmust always take priority. A safe solu-tion: the gas flow control device. This islicensed for active safeguarding of gasinstallations in accordance with TRGI2008 for gases in line with the DVGW(German Technical and Scientific Asso-ciation for Gas and Water) data sheet G 260. It is intended for use in the opera-tional pressure range of 15 to 100 mbar.

Automatically secureThe principle of gas flow control devicesis as simple as it is effective. The gas flowcontrol device is designed in such a waythat the flow rate of the gas shuts off at adefined pressure. If a fault occurs andthe shut-off flow rate is achieved as aresult of an improper amount of gas flow,then the valve closes. The back pressureis no longer strong enough to keep thevalve retainer open and the gas flow con-trol device automatically closes the pipe. Once the regular operating conditionsare regained, the valve opens with helpfrom the over-current function. Com-pletely automatically.

Clear labellingTo achieve the objective, the gas flowcontrol devices must be fitted in accor-dance with their installation positions. Itis not least for this reason that they have a coloured label which provides informa-tion about all important characteristics,e.g. about nominal value, pressure rangeand the appropriate installation position.Viega gas flow control devices are suit-able for all gases in accordance withDVGW data sheet G 260 for householdgas applications and can be used withan operating pressure of up to 100 mbar.They are available in nominal widths ofDN 20 to DN 50.

Flexible installation and connection optionsViega gas flow control devices offer you a multitude of installation options as a result of the huge variety of connectiondesigns, e.g. directly onto the house con-nection, the pressure regulator or into thegas meter connection. Reliable protection against tampering (1)The press connections on the gas meterball valve form a permanent connectionthat provides a high level of protectionagainst tampering. Available in dimen-sions from 15 to 54 mm. It can be usedtogether with single fitting gas meters or with gas meter units in series. Theassortment has no unnecessary screwconnections or transitions. It can beused variably with corner and pass-through shapes and saves space withcompact lengths.

Tapping the sun’s energy (1)Regenerative energies are the way ofthe future. It’s no secret that heatderived from solar collectors is lookingmore attractive every day – to supportexisting systems, prepare hot water orheat swimming pools. And of courseProfipress also demonstrates its systemcompetence in this area. The factory-installed EPDM sealing element makesProfipress compatible with all solar sys-tems with flat collectors. For solar sys-tems with vacuum pipe collectors Viegaoffers the Profipress S system with factory-installed FKM sealing element.Since it was developed especially forapplications with high temperatures, itis able to handle high standstill temper-atures with no problem.
