Scholarshipsareoincreasingimportanceinthesetimesoconstrainedbudgetsandhighees,toensurethatopportunittoaccesshighereducationisavailabletoall,regardlessotheirnancialposition.Westminsterhasthelargestscholarship

undoanUkuniversitandhasbeenwellaheadomostuniversitiesinproviding

generousnancialsupporttoassiststudentstoachievetheirambitions.ThisisourtenthearoprovidingmajorscholarshipsandwearecelebratingbappointingaPatronorthescheme.WearedelightedandhonouredthatHerHighnesstheMaharanioGwalior(India)hasagreedtotaeonthisrole.Eventhoughwecommitover4millioneach

eartothescholarshipsund,weareunabletomeetthedemand.for2011entralonewereceivedover4,000applications.Tohelp

supportevenmorestudentswearecommittedtoraisingurtherundsthroughourpartnersandexistingandnewdonors.Thethemeothisearsscholarshipsbrochureisourdonorsandhowtheircontributionshavehelpedustosupportmanthousandsostudentsoverthelasttenears.Wehavebeenabletotransormthelivesoindividualsbutmoreimportantlwehavebeenabletoaddessentialsillsandnowledgetosomeothepoorestcommunitiesintheworldandtotransormmanlives.Thisisatenearachievementowhichweareimmenselproud.Itcouldnothavebeenachievedwithouthelp

oritsdiverse,exibleandinnovativeapproachtosupportingstudents.Ascrupulousawardprocessbasedonclearcriteriaisollowedbcontinualpastoralcareorbeneciarstudents.

The charity Guildford Academic Associates (GAA)was founded in 1981 by Dr Eric and Joan Reid ontheir retirement from the University of Surrey. Thecouple were both scientists who also had a sharedinterest in the arts and, as research students, grew

up with the Royal Ballet.

EricandJoanidentiedorganisationsandcausesthewishedtosupport.Thecharituietltargetededucation-relatedendowmentsintheartsandencourageduniversitentrance(especiallemalestudentsintoscienticsubjects)withtheaimoalleviatingunoreseeablehardship.Italsosupportedbioscienticresearch,largelthroughtheBiochemicalSociet,andhumanitariancausesinthiscountrandabroad.
