The system is equipped with aninternal power pack that enables record-ing on repeated deployments to obtainup to an hour of footage. Rechargingand data transfer takes place via anexternal charging port. The camera isequipped with variable powered lightsthat can either be fixed to the side of thecamera or positioned elsewhere viaumbilicals to allow adjustments to bemade for visibility. The standard hous-ing is rated to 6,000 m, but systems forshallower use are also available.

Teledyne TSSʼ Saturn fibre opticgyrocompass achieves WheelMark status

Teledyne Marine announced thatafter comprehensive testing, the fullrange of Teledyne TSS Saturn FibreOptic Gyrocompasses has achievedWheel Mark type approval under theMED (Marine Equipment Directive)Module B for meeting the performancestandards required by gyrocompassesused for commercial shipping. Theequipment is now fully approved forGyro-Compass Equipment (AnnexA.1/4.3), Gyro-Compass for HighSpeed Craft (Annex A.1/4.31) whenoperating at vessel speeds above 30 kts,as well as Rate of Turn Indicator(Annex A.1/4.9).

MED ensures a uniform implemen-tation of international instruments forcompliance with international conven-tions in order to ensure maximumdegree of reliability and safety at sea, toprevent maritime casualties and pollu-tion, and to ensure free movement ofequipment within the European Union.

The equipment is also approvedunder the U.S. – EC MutualRecognition Agreement. (US CoastGuard Module B Number165.103/EC0168 and 165.203/EC0168also apply.)

2G Robotics delivers two deep-rated Laser systems toOceaneering

2G Robotics recently delivered twodeep-rated ULS-500 subsea laser sys-tems to Oceaneering International, Inc.’sbusiness unit, Oceaneering SurveyServices. Including these two ULS-500systems, Oceaneering now utilizes six ofthe ULS-500 systems with its AUVs aspart of its advanced survey and inspec-tion services for assessing pipeline andflowline integrity. Oceaneering has usedthe 2G Robotics ULS-500 system toaccurately and efficiently inspect 2,500km of pipeline and flowline.

The ULS-500 can be used to per-form high-quality stationary scans, butthe system delivers even greater opera-tional value when integrated with sub-sea vehicles to perform dynamic scan-ning. The ULS-500 is specificallydesigned for dynamic scanning withdevelopment focused on subsea vehicleintegration, high sample rates, and tim-ing synchronization for efficient andaccurate data acquisition.

Dynamic scanning with the ULS-500notably increases operational efficiencycompared to traditional sonar andacoustic techniques as the high samplerates of the system allow for faster vehi-cle traversal for faster inspections. Withdynamic scanning, one of the criticalfeatures is precision time synchroniza-tion since inaccuracies with time syn-chronization will produce inaccuracies

with model generation. The ULS-500uses PPS (pulse per second) time syn-chronization as it provides better timingaccuracy than a standard NTP (networktime protocol) time synchronizationapproach, ensuring better data accuracy.

A DVL that fits in the palm of your hand

The trend in the underwater vehiclecommunity is for smaller size andgreater flexibility. Nortek has, therefore,designed a DVL with workclass capa-bility that fits in the palm of yourhand–while offering higher precisionnavigation. With the introduction of theNortek DVL, navigation capabilities ofsmaller underwater vehicles is no longerlimited by the size and cost of the DVL.Our recently developed DVL opens thedoor to new possibilities.

The Nortek DVL is tailor-made foroperational users of workclass and miniROVs and AUVs alike. It contains allthe functionality of a classic DVL buthas now taken advantage of the possi-bilities offered by a modern hardwareplatform. The package size is small yetdoes not compromise performance.

A casual review of the DVL showsthat Nortek has managed to reduce sizeand power consumption as well asincorporate modern communicationchannels. However, it is the powerfulprocessing of the new platform thathelps users improve on the capability ofthe bottom tracking.

You can expect bottom lock forgreater ranges, soft bottoms, and veryclose to the bottom. In addition to therobust bottom track, the data stream con-tains information such as data qualityparameters and time stamps with a 1-millisecond resolution. Precise knowl-edge of when the velocity estimate weremade provides more accurate navigation.
