ENERGY:CRITICAL FACTS & FIGURES
Fossil fuel (coal/oil/gas) - limited and fast depleting; an urgent
need of renewable source of energy - solar/wind.
Average per capita electricity production in industrially
advanced nation is 14,000 units, while it’s only 900 in India
against the need of 2000 (only 45%) .
People without electricity = ~ 30 Cr; Unelectrified Villages: 35K
India’s installed power generation capacity is 285GW (Aug-2016)
RE contribution is 43 GW, i.e., 13% (Aug-2016)
Solar contribution is only 8 GW (Till Aug-16) while target is 100
GW by 2022. Rooftop Target is 40 GW by 2020.
Wind Power is 25 GW against target of 60 GW by 2022.
Solar Potential: Energy in 1 hr > World’s Annual Energy Reqmnt
India is in sunny region with 4-7 KWH/m2 with more than 300
Sunny days; India’s Potential=750 GW
Gujarat is more blessed with 5-6.4 KWH/m2 and 330 sunny days.
RPO for Solar to go up from 0.25% in 2011-12 to 8% by 2022
Fund needed is $100 Billion
Why Renewable?
PER CAPITA ENERGY CONSUMPTION
With 11 GJ, long way to go…
Rest of World at 18 is much above India
India only dreams for it
India needs 1250 Million Units more to improve from 11 to 12 GJ per capita and 8750 Mn to reach ROW level
