If you or a loved one are in the hospital and would like a visit from our ministers, deacons or priests, you must call the rectory and request a visit. The privacy law states that the hospital cannot provide a list when we come o visit our parishioners. And even if they do, pa ents that come to the hospital through the Emergency Room never get their “parish” listed — it’s not one of the emergency ques ons. Even though hospital personnel can call the parish a the pa ent’s request, it is best for the pa ent or a family member to call us at 773-622-5900.

Remember in Prayer As members of the parish faith community, it is our responsibility to remember both in concrete and spiritual ways those who cannot celebrate with us each week because they are ill. Those who are sick in turn,

remember all of us daily in their prayers and in their sufferings.

BÓG ZAPŁAĆ!

PLEASE REMEMBER ST. FERDINAND PARISH IN YOUR WILL.

“If anyone wishes to come a er me, he must deny himself

and take up his cross daily and follow me.” LUKE 9:23 We are not very good at “denying ourselves” in our

society. Our current economic situa on is evidence of what happens when people think they can have everything they want. Jesus calls us to set our own personal “wants” aside

so that we have the resources to follow Him instead.

We invite anyone able to help with the church cleaning. Please join us weekly on Mondays at 5:00 pm

and Fridays at 10:00 am. Thank you!

Sincere THANK YOU to all who give their me to keep our church clean. Thank you for your faithfulness and dependability. Please know

that your help is very much valued and appreciated.

THEWORKSOFMERCYThe works of mercy are the prac cal ways we live out mercy. They are how we show loving kindness, compassion, and self-restraint to the people around us, both physically and spiritually. According to the Catechism, “The works of mercy are charitable ac ons by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in his spiritual and bodily necessi es” (No. 2447). While the exact list has varied slightly throughout the history of the Church, there are 14 consistently recognized works of mercy. CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY:

Feed the hungry

Give drink to the thirsty

Clothe the naked

Harbour the harbourless

Visit the sick

Ransom the cap ve

Bury the dead It is not only our souls, but also our bodies that have an incredible dignity in Jesus. We are called to respect and care for our own bodies as well as those of others, especially the suffering, the poor, and the marginalized (see Catechism of the Catholic Church No. 1004). Jesus issues this call many mes throughout the Gospels. Serving others as at the core of the mission God has for his children. When it comes to serving people in need, our family, the Catholic Church, has an incredible track record. The Church feeds more people, houses more people, clothes more people, educates more people, and takes care of more sick people than any other ins tu on in the world. And the Church

achieves this through the ac on of ordinary Catholics like you and me. SPRITUAL WORKS OF MERCY

Instruct the ignorant

Counsel the doub ul

Admonish sinners

Bear wrongs pa ently

Forgive offenses willingly

Comfort the afflicted

Pray for the living and the dead

For thousands of years, God has been using ordinary people to do extraordinary things. He delights in dynamic collabora on with humanity. He doesn’t necessarily choose the people who are the best educated or who are good-looking; he doesn’t choose people because they are in posi ons of power and authority; he doesn’t always choose the most eloquent or persuasive. There is only one type of person God has used powerfully throughout history: He does incredible things with the people who make themselves available to him; it is the prerequisite for mission. Pope Francis has called for an extraordinary year of mercy.

He is invi ng each of us to spend this year with mercy as a

focal point of our spirituality. This is a tremendous

opportunity to make yourself available to God.

SUNDAY AND WEEKLY MASSES ON TELEVISION for those unable to leave their homes because of age or ailment to a end Mass:

Sunday Mass at Mercy Home for Boys and Girls Sunday mornings - 9:30 a.m. WGN-TV, Channel 9, Chicago EWTN Television Daily Mass Daily - 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 6 p.m., 11 p.m.

Today is Father’s Day. What does that mean to you?

Today shouldn’t be about ge ng in a round of golf or

taking me for yourself. Today should be a reflec on

on how you are doing as a dad.

Our God is all forgiving and merciful. When we fail, he

isn’t there to chas se us. He doesn’t say, “You’re

out”. We stumble, we turn our backs on our Father,

yet he is right there, arms open, wai ng for us to

come back. Are you this same merciful father with

your children? Your wife? If not, today is a great day

to start.

God made the ul mate sacrifice for His children. Do

we deserve it? No way! But He did it anyway. So how

can we repay him? Be that same father to your family

and those around you. Live for Him. Do everything in

the name of Jesus Christ.

Today is Father’s Day. If you are hur ng, weak,

disappointed in yourself, or just feel like you haven’t

been the father you should be, then today is a day to

start fresh. Make a promise to walk with Christ. Ask

him to guide you. Turn to St. Joseph for his

intercession. There is a great man inside you. Show

him to the light.

Lord God, pray for all fathers today to be the men

that You designed them to be. Make them the

beacon of light in the world that You so badly want us

to be. In Your name we pray. Amen.

PIELGRZYMKA DO SANKTUARIUM MATKI BOŻEJ DOBREJ POMOCYW niedzielę, 6 czerwca 53 osoby pod duchowym przewodnictwem Ks. Michała Wyrzykowskiego wzięły udział w pielgrzymce do Sanktuarium Matki Bożej Dobrej Pomocy w New Franken, Wisconsin. Adel aż do końca swego życia wiernie wypełniła polecenie Matki Bożej i wraz z innymi siostrami z III Zakonu Świętego Franciszka założyła szkółkę gdzie mieszkało i uczyło się 48 dzieci z ubogich okolicznych rodzin.

WSZYSTKIEGO NAJLEPSZEGO W DNIU OJCA!
