    5 S:

    5 S refers those Five Japanese word which

    have been translated into English

    language. They start with letter S and arethe name of a methodology. It is

    characterized as Standardized Cleanup.

    5 S gives the idea of managing the workspace and improve its efficiency

    following are the important points in respect of 5 S:

    1. 5 S is a method for organizing of workplace.

    2. It can also be referred as housekeeping methodology.

    3. It is also concerned with morale and efficiency.

    4. Time should not be wasted for looking things.

    5. It gives the idea of what should be kept and where it should be kept.

    6. It is a method that shows how it should be stored.

    7. The idea of making decisions comes from discussion andstandardization and it also shows how work should be done.

    8. Tools should be kept at the point of use and user of the tool need notbend frequently while acquiring the tool or material.

    9. Flow path efficiency should be improved.

    10. Work area and storing the things are important, other things are tobe discarded.

    11. The other important part of 5 S, is set in order.

    12. Arrange the tools, equipments in such a manner that it shouldpromote work flow.

    13. Tools and equipments should be kept where they are used.

    14. The process should be such that it should maximize efficiency.

    15. Everything must be kept at its place at the end of each shift.

    16. Work area should be properly cleaned up and everything isrestored to its place.

    17. Maintaining cleanliness should become part of daily routine work.

    18. Everyone should know his responsibility in 5 S.

    19. Keep focus on new way of operating and if need be review shouldbe taken in operating with new methods.

    20. Safety is also important while doing work.

    21. There should be continuous education in respect of maintaining

    standards.

    22. A best way is to continue education of employees and maintainingstandards is to use 5 S posters and signs.

    Knowledge management as a process canfacilitate information and knowledge in theorganizations to create and share knowledgeand to utilize, accumulate and reuse such

    knowledge. In brief, it can be stated thatknowledge management is a series of processof knowledge transformation and circulation. Theuser is the centre of all the processes from the

    initial phase of service planning. The purpose ofthis study is to search for application of sixsigma as a solution for efficient knowledgemanagement.

    Following are the important points in respect of six sigma:

    1. Six sigma means a systematic innovative activity to

    measure and analyze causes of defects including allcauses that interrupt process or service.

    2. T is a methodology to define a problem from the view

    point of managers.

    3. Knowledge management is a process of knowledgetransformation and circulation.

    4. The user is the centre of all processes.

    5. It is necessary to secure information for decision-making.
