CHRISTIAN DATING GUIDE
Do you have an issue about dating?
Christians have different opinions with
regards to courtship. Since the Bible is not
clear about this aspect, often time’s church
leaders formulate certain standards that
are linked to the Christian values. Purity is
a precise message emphasized by the
church when it comes to courtship.
Some conventional Christians may have
strict values when it comes to courtship;
dating, for instance, is not acceptable. For
this reason, some Christians stay single for
life. Alternatively you may find it helpful to
read the following outline about the
common misconceptions about dating.
Asking for a date is a
wrong move
To ask for a date is an indication that you
want to know the person more. It is a good
action to identify the person in a different
way. Christian men may think that asking a
co-believer to a date is offensive because of
an advance thought that she may think of it
as indecent. Actually, you don't have to say,
"Can I ask you out for a date?" Use indirect
but polite phrases such as "Would you
mind if we eat out with (someone you
know in common)?" This way, you present
an invitation in a subtle and cautious
manner.

Misconceptions

Agreeing to a date
manifests interest to the
person's intention.
For Christian girls, it is prejudicial to
assume that agreeing to a date means
approbation to the opposite sex. On the
other hand, men should not think that a
mutual feeling has already occurred when
she says “yes”” to a date. Approval to an
invitation is far different from a
commitment.
Dating a non-Christian is
depraved.
Although the Bible is clear about going
along only with fellow-believers, it is not
right to discriminate a non-believer. They
may not have the same faith as yours, but
you are not to judge them. Who knows, you
may be the key for that person's salvation.
Nevertheless, do not use Christianity to
persuade a non-Christian for a date.
Dating makes you
vulnerable.
Dating will only make you vulnerable if you
make it exclusive. Your motives also affect
your susceptibility to sin. When dating is
aimed to be acquainted with each other's
personality in a constructive way, there is
no risk involved. However, if you
personally know that you are vulnerable to
do a wrong move, you can ask for a group
date or be accommodated with a chaperon
or some friends.
