... softens and soothes like no other.

At MilkSource Genetics, Kaukauna, Wis., Jamie Endvick has used Udder Comfort since he started as herd manager 4 years ago. MilkSource is home to the famous Blondin Redman Seisme-Red. She calved in August and went EX-96 with a 98-point mammary in Sept., producing 150 lbs per day at 60 days in milk in October.

Seisme repeated as Grand Champion Red & White at World Dairy Expo in Oct. and three-peated as Grand at RAWF in Nov. She was named 2012 Red & White Cow of the Year.

We stick with Udder Comfort because it works. We use it at home for hard quarters, fresh cows, and after milkout at shows.

It softens and soothes like no other, really bringing the quality back to the udder. Everything plays a role in quality here from the feed to the care, to the Udder Comfort.

For external application to the udder only after milking, as an essential component of udder management. Always wash and dry teats thoroughly before milking.

    Just Thinking Out Loud

CBS-TV reporters Charles Kuralt and Steve Hartman have made careers out of tell-ing the stories of just ordinary people. Kuralt traveled around America sharing the special everyday stories of the people he met. Today, Hartman will plop open a phonebook, randomly points to a name and nds a story to tell. At rst the subject is reluctant toshare their stories. The feel they have nothing important to share, but Hartman always nds a treasure of a story sifting through the persons life. Many of us may feel our stories arent as glamorous, adventurous or interesting as someone elses story be-cause we never seem to leave our farms to travel into an unknown adventure. Heavens, Ive been sharing my sim-ple everyday stories with you for the past three years and I havent ventured off the farm very much, yet I somehow seem to nd a story to tell. I think we forget that people want to hear our stories about life on the farm because it is an unknown adventure to many of them. They cant even begin to image what really happens down on the farm. Their only references may be nursery rhymes, silly songs (Green Acres or Old McDonald) or stories by peo-ple who want to destroy our industry. I think people are honestly craving our simple everyday stories as they long to get their hands dirty along with us and to get back to a simple life, if only in their imagination. We need to start sharing our stories. The gift of storytelling may be one of lifes most powerful skills. A story well toldcan make us laugh, cry, swell with pride or rise with indignation, according to East Ten-nessee State University professor Hannah Harvey. She teaches the art of storytelling. As humans, we seem to be hard-wired for stories. She says stories are how we record boththe monumental events of life and the small, everyday moments. Your family history, the stories you tell that de ne and shape your identity are all stored in your mind and sharedthrough your actions and words. Being a storyteller has its advantages. A well-crafted narrative can keep the people, values and life lessons we hold dear to us alive throughout time. A good story gives us power to in uence our children and others. The oral storytelling tradition is as old as language itself. Throughout history, storieshave existed to preserve and pass knowledge across the generations. Parables from the Bible and Aesops fables were stories passed down through generations, teaching life lessons based on the surroundings of land and animals. Then Guggenheim invented the printing press and stories moved to the printed pages, but a good storyteller was still avalued form of entertainment. With todays technology, communication has evolved, yet remained the same. We can instantly share our story with millions of people around the world, but it still comes down to telling a good story. My dad is a notorious story teller. Every morning he shares his stories with the otherfarmers over breakfast at the Hurry Back Caf. The guys would hold up their ngersannouncing the number of times they had heard his latest story. When they ran out of ngers they started keeping a running tally on a chalkboard. Dad explains they only hear20 percent of the story, so he needs to tell it at least ve times before they even begin tohear the whole story. The extra times are just reinforcement for the story to stick. I have heard Dads stories more times than I can count, but I will still sit aroundthe kitchen table until the wee hours of the night listening to the rhythm of his voice ashe meanders through the history of our family. Whenever I hear key phrases from hisstories, such as just a poor ol boy trying to get alongor she drove her ducks to a bad market...I am instantly transported through time and space to my seat at the kitchentable listening to Dad launch into another story. Stories are a way to stay connected to our families. Stories are also a way to connect with strangers. I have been known to share ourdairy farming stories with people in the grocery store. As I stand in the check-out line, I scan the carts of groceries surrounding me. I notice if there are little kids attached to acart with a gallon of milk inside. I tell them that I helped to make their milk that morn-ing when I milked our cows. Their eyes would widen as they tried to comprehend how I could make milk for them to drink. Their mother would listen and see the wheels turningin their childs mind. I would eventually invite them out to our farm to milk a cow. Ahome schooled family took me up on my offer and made it a science class eld trip day.Now they were a part of our dairy story and could share their adventure on the farm withothers. Twelve young ladies are crafting their stories to share with the world as they pre-pare for the coronation of Princess Kay of the Milky Way. Having your head carved in a 90 pound block of butter is an instant ice-breaker and opens the door for them to shareour story of dairy with our consumers. They will educate, inform and even charm theiraudiences with stories about working side by side with their families every day and still loving them. They will be a visible connection between consumers and producers as they share their stories of life on the farm and incorporating dairy into their healthy diets. Telling our stories is important. It can serve as a connection between strangers. It canbe a testament to surviving a challenging planting season when there doesnt appear to bea good ending in sight at the time. It can be a way to keep loved ones close to our heartsand bring a smile to our face as we hear their voice telling another one of their favorite stories. Practice sharing your familys story with family and strangers. It is a great way to keep us all connected. Did I ever tell you the story about the time... Natalie, Mark and his brother, Al, Schmitt farm together near Rice, Minn. They milk100 registered Holsteins under the RALMA pre x. Their four children are great helparound the farm and are pushing Natalie out of several jobs. Therefore she is thankfulto have something else to do.
