Both groups raised questions about jeopardizing contracts they had signed with exhibitors they were bringing, and Messe Düsseldorf wrote that it seemed “really impossible” to move without losing money.

Dear Readers, TFT October issue brings to you more news than Q & A and feature texts.

I apologies for not been able to publish the interview of Peter Tatara of Reed POP and more coverage on IEIA Open Seminar as committed last month, both- purely because of unavoidable technical reasons, nevertheless; we will bring to you both in November issue.

October has been the month of maximum exhibitions across the country, although B2B has little to do with festival shopping; the month has been busiest among all for TradeFairs.

The biggest news which came in as surprise , and found cover in this edition- is the sudden appearance of a 1 lac sqm of Indoor Exhibition Facility in Ahmedabad ( Gandhi Nagar). The Plast India Foundation has moved its flagship event at this new venue from Pragati Maidan,New Delhi.

Ahmedabad with this latest Venue can count itself on the global map.

Even though the city has not escaped the general downturn, economic growth here in the last few years has been higher than in most Indian Cities.

As a result of a long-term policy by state government, trade fairs and exhibitions in Gujarat have benefitted strongly from the states political stability, legislative security, attractive economic conditions and support by local and state governments.

Scroll inside pages to read more on latest results of ITPO, Growth of NM India, Market watch on ITE Exhibitions, Q & A with Igor Palka, CEO, bC India Expo, end of the show reports and upcoming event calendar of IEIA Members, TFT Media partners and other trade fair organisers.

Dont miss the November edition as where we are going to publish the report on Exhibition Venues in India.

    Cheers for now

The much-hyped XI Metropolis World Congress concluded on 10th October at HICC, Hyderabad turned out as a big flop.

Interestingly, to hide the poor attendance of the delegates, the media was kept away from the congress as no media person was allowed to enter the venue during the event.

A live feed of the speech with fixed camera on the speaker was shown to eager Media persons outside the venue.

On the concluding day a few delegates were toured across the city to showcase Hyderabad Metro Rail sites, Falaknuma Palace and other places. By evening the pots that were placed at strategic locations in the city (read where the delegates would pass by) were already looking as jaded as the conference.

What was seen in and around the venue was more of the state police security personal and lesser numbers of the delegates.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had put up hoardings stating that 400 foreign delegates would be attending the Congress and the total number of delegates would number over 2,000.

However, hardly half of them turned up for the event. In many sessions, empty chairs greeted the speakers. To avoid this embarrassing situation, the GHMC forced its staff to occupy the empty chairs.

In spite of the GHMC having a full year to conduct the Congress, due to improper handling of the event, several delegates were not informed on time, which led to them cancelling the trip. The ones that showed interest were also Indians who had settled in different countries and came for the event so that they could visit their home town.

Singi Reddy Srinivas Reddy, TDP floor leader, GHMC, said, The GHMC had invited 1600 delegates from 90 countries but only 168 from about 50 countries took part in the Congress. The date and venue was fixed one year ago and the civic body had a full year to coordinate and bring in delegates.

ITE Group plc, the international exhibitions group specialising in emerging and developing markets, has issued the following update for the year ending 30 September 2014, prior to entering its close period and ahead of

its preliminary results announcement on 2 December 2014.

The Group can confirm that following a better than expected trading performance in Q4 and good cost control, headline profits before tax for FY 2014 will be ahead of current consensus **. Revenues for FY 2014 are now expected to be circa 174m (2013: 193m).

Fourth Quarter TradingThe Group ran 38 events in the fourth

quarter producing revenue of circa 29m (2013: 27m). Overall, like-for-like revenues on a constant currency basis were 6% higher than last year, although 7% lower on an actual currency basis.

The principal trading highlights in the fourth quarter were: World Food Moscow, the Group's leading

food exhibition, recorded its largest ever event with a 4% increase in space sales to 25,700sqm. The recently imposed sanctions against EU & US food imports had a minimal effect on overall sales, with a small number of cancellations from European exhibitors largely offset by additional sales to territories such as Egypt and Turkey. Visitor numbers were very strong, up 12% over the previous edition.

MODA, the Group's market leading UK fashion event based at the NEC in Birmingham was slightly larger than last year at 17,200sqm.

Financial position The Group had net debt of circa 15m as at

26 September 2014 (2013: net cash of 23m), after spending circa 50m on acquisitions and deferred consideration during this financial year.

** consensus headline PBT at 26th September was between 54.8m and 56.7m

OutlookAs at 26 September 2014, the Group had

booked circa 60m of revenue for the 2015 financial year, representing circa 34% of current market expectations. The Group continues to experience currency headwinds from both of its major trading currencies, the Euro and the Ruble, which is expected to have an impact on earnings in the 2015 financial year if they remain at current levels. Bookings to date are in line with management expectations although behind the prior year, which benefitted from strong early bookings in a stronger economic environment and from the absence of the political crisis in Ukraine which continues to impact the Group's Ukrainian business.

Economic sanctions have had little direct effect on our Russian business to date but are expected to weigh on the Russian economy in the future. The Group will continue to monitor the situation but benefits from a flexible cost structure and will take appropriate steps to protect its margins.

Overall the Group is in a strong financial position generating good cash flows and remains well placed to continue to diversify its business into new geographies.

CEIR Foundation Raises $175,000 in Recent Fundraising Efforts

The Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) today announced a substantial increase in contributions due to recent fundraising efforts. What began as a personal email to a list of exhibition industry colleagues requesting financial support of the CEIR Foundation, quickly turned into a two-day challenge resulting in $175,000 in pledges. Each time a pledge was received, a challenge was issued for others to pledge support to the CEIR Foundation.

The catalyst for this challenge was a recent pledge by the Association of Equipment Manufacturers to give $100,000 to the Foundation over the next five years. "I am thrilled to report this significant increase in donations from the exhibitions and events industry," said CEIR President and CEO Brian Casey, CEM. "The research CEIR conducts has a profound effect on the exhibitions and events industry. Without the generous support of our donors, the CEIR Index and CEIR Census would not be possible."

Total contributions in 2014 to the CEIR Foundation have exceeded $475,000.

TFT : The 3rd edition of bC Expo India is approaching fast , hows been the preparations going?

Igor Palka : We are now in the core time of preparing the event and still get many inquiries every single day. As that the construction equipment market has slightly improved after the elections we are looking forward to a great event which will be the first in that sector and that scale in the north of India. I am more than happy that we have already numerous stakeholders on board and many new companies will be present this year, too. Of course there is still a lot of things to be organized but we are totally on track and count the days until we open the gates on 15th December!

TFT : What made the bC india board consider shifting the event to India Exposition Mart?

Igor Palka : We had several reasons why we relocated the bC India show to Greater Noida and shifted in dates. One is the region of North India: Many companies welcome the move of our show to North India near Delhi, where so far there was no large construction equipment exhibition. Secondly, the India Expo Centre in Greater Noida, as a modern trade-fair centre, offers us the right ground to improve in terms of size or quality. This is a big improvement, when you compare it to the temporary hall structures we had to build up at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, which by the way was not available for a third edition of bC India in Mumbai.

I believe that relocating to Greater Noida/Delhi will help to develop this event further.

TFT : The poor footfall at India Exposition Mart in past has been a cause of concern for many exhibitions. How are you going to address this ?

Igor Palka : First of all, there is still a certain mindset about the India Expo Mart being far away that needs to be corrected. From many central points as well as the airport you can easily reach the exhibition ground between 60 and 90 minutes, I experienced it many times by myself.

We as an organizer of course have to provide several options how to reach the venue, thats why there will be different shuttle routes to the venue with pick up points at the airports, numerous different hotels, metro stations and other central points in Delhi NCR. We recommend to use the metro to those points and then avail our free shuttle to bC India.

Moreover we are currently working on cooperations with the DND Flyway and some other corporations in order to make the commute to Greater Noida as convenient as possible.

TFT : There is confusion among the minds of new visitors on 'Expo Centre',( Greater NOIDA) as another venue being called as 'NOIDA Expo Centre,' do you think the duplicity will affect the footfall ?

Igor Palka : No, I dont think that this will affect our show. We are highlighting and promoting the location of bC India 2014 in all possible ways and signs will guide all visitors to the right place. Additionally, due to the height of some huge exhibits from our participants and the size of bC India in general, you will be able to see the event from quite some distance.

TFT : You must be missing Thomas , the former CEO at bC India, is it a bigger task for you to manage the show at a new location without a fellow senior colleague around ?

Igor Palka : The success of the past two shows was amazing.

After just two editions, bC India has developed into one of the most important trade fairs for construction machinery, building material machines, mining machines and construction vehicles in the Middle East and India. Thomas and the team did a fantastic job to establish bC India as a well recognized platform for the industry that exhibitors and visitors should not miss out.

However, having managed bauma in Munich, I personally have faced already big tasks in the past. bC India is of course a complete new challenge for me but luckily I have the same team around me that Thomas had and together we can bring this show to another level.

TFT : India's infrastructure sector in last fiscal has been slow on growth. Many construction conglomerates are even struggling to survive, How do you think bC India 2014 will cope with this trend ?

Igor Palka : We feel the market sentiment are right, the government is talking the right language of growth, development and what is absolute positive is their interest in Infrastructure development. We also feel that in

due course of time, like everything else, the sector will see some good turn around, which will definitely have positive impact by the time we are having the show. One has to understand, that a stronger India will enable stronger neighborhood. Already their talks of infrastructure developments across India and its neighbors like Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka. We think this region will see some immense transformation in near future and of course for Infrastructure sector is one of them and bCIndia will be there to help the industry by bringing in the right technology into the fray.

TFT : How's been the bC India growth pattern in the last 2 editions in terms of space sold, business generated and visitor footfall ?

Igor Palka : We were very happy with the outcome of our first two editions. Having a first edition in 2011 with 508 exhibitors on 88,000 sqm with almost 25,000 visitors and increasing this to 710 companies from 33 countries on 150,000sqm with more than 28,000 visitors is extremely impressive. I am very much looking forward to continuing the success story of this event.

"We had several reasons to relocate the bC India show to Greater Noida"IGOR PAlkA, CEO, BC India Expo

Those shows are by far the biggest construction machinery related exhibitions in the world.BAI Builder's Association of India is or Joint organiser and big supporter since the first event in 2011.

Igor Palka, the young and energetic CEO at bC Expo India is super busy awaiting December 2014 to organize one of the worlds largest Expo on Construction Industry at a new location; India Exposition Mart , Greater Noida, bC India, a joint venture between two internationally successful trade show organizers: Messe Muenchen International, organizer of BAUMA, and AEM, organizer of CONEXPO-CON/AGG have combined their expertise to create the biggest construction machinery show. Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) is ensuring Indian participation in a big way at

Gitex 2014 scheduled in Dubai from 12-16 October 2014. ESC has been facilitating Indian participation on a regular basis at Gitex to take advantage of the booming IT market in the Gulf and leveraging that association for getting businesses for Indian IT companies from a multitude of large global corporations, which are executing projects in the region, says Kamal Vachani, Regional Director, Middle East, ESC.

The participating Indian companies have reported to have bagged significant businesses, forged joint ventures, marketing tie ups, etc. with the buyers visiting the exhibition. This year in 2014 at Gitex Dubai, 40 Indian ICT companies are exhibiting at the India Pavilion organised by ESC. Out of these 40 companies 17 companies are repeating their participation in the event. Another 20 Indian ICT companies will be also participating in various halls. India pavilion will highlight innovative ICT products & services including Cyber Security Solutions, Mobile Tablets, Power Chargers (Power Banks) and IT Accessories, Software Products on E-Commerce, Time and Attendance, Visitor Management, ELearning Systems, Survey Builder, Quality Management solutions, CMS, CRM, Event Management, Technical Skills in Microsoft .Net etc.

TFT : Bauma,bC India,CONEXPO-CON/AGG, BAI, AEM, MMI. Can you define the interlinks and partnership ?

Igor Palka : bC India A BAUMA CONEXPO SHOW is a Joint Venture between the German exhibition organizer MMI (Messe Mnchen International) and the American association AEM (Association of Equipment Manufacturers).

Both organizations hold Construction Equipment shows in Munich, Germany and Las Vegas, USA, called bauma and CON EXPO-CON / AGG. Those shows are by far the biggest construction machinery related exhibitions in the world.

BAI Builder's Association of India is or Joint organiser and big supporter since the first event in 2011.

TFT : Which Indian Show in the same segment is nearest comepetor to bC India ?

Igor Palka : There are few shows in the same segment, all spread

across India. A comparable show to ours is being held every alternate year to bC India in Bangalore. We consider this as a good balance, having one major show each year, one in South and our exhibition in the north of India.

TFT : You were on the panel discussion of "Standards and Codes for Tradefair Organisation in India" at IEIA Open Seminar, held in august , what is the status on the task ?

Igor Palka : Many thoughts have already been put into the Standards and Codes, meaning health and safety guidelines for the Indian Exhibition Industry. They have been brought on paper and presented to IEIA and now recently openly discussed at the Open Seminar. Now it is coming to the time of streamlining the process of implementation, which is a very

important task. I believe this should not take too much time, otherwise we will just keep on talking about it.

TFT : Are you a regular reader of TradeFairTimes, what is your take on this publication ?

Igor Palka : I am absolutely a regular reader of TradeFarTimes. In fact, TFT was one of the very first publications that Ive hold in hands once I arrived in India. It gave me, especially in my first weeks here in India, a constant good overview of what is happening in the Indian Exhibition Industry and now I am happy and proud to be more involved and a part of it.

12-Best of luck for bC India 2014, we look forward to have a great debut at NCR.

Thank you very much, I also look forward welcoming you and all the readers to bC India from 15th to 18th December.

NrnbergMesse India has turned in a successful start in its first year of business and is also expanding its portfolio of exhibitions in the second year by taking over the organization of the die casting trade fair ALUCAST. In its first year the company achieved a total of over 1,000 exhibitors on a gross display space of over 60,000 square metres and more than 50,000 trade visitors. With our youngest subsidiary we have succeeded in transferring the concept of compact, special-interest trade fairs that reflect the whole value chain to the Indian subcontinent, say the CEOs of the NrnbergMesse Group, Peter Ottmann and Dr. Roland Fleck, with satisfaction. NrnbergMesse India was founded as the youngest international subsidiary of NrnbergMesse in April 2013, took over the companys existing projects in India and has meanwhile expanded the portfolio to six events.

NrnbergMesse India focuses on compact trade fairs with themes linked to the events in Nrnberg and which cover the whole value chain for the respective sector. Sonia

Prashar, Managing Director of NrnbergMesse India, can look back on a successful first year as head of the Indian subsidiary: We are small but smart. We currently organize six trade fairs with our team in India. Two of these are already absolutely leading exhibitions for the Indian market: ACREX India, the trade fair for air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration and building services, and PAINTINDIA for paint and coatings.

Extension of the event portfolioThe event portfolio will be increased in 2014 with the ALUCAST trade fair for aluminium die casting, which NrnbergMesse India is organizing for the first time on behalf of the Aluminium Casters Association of India. ALUCAST enables us to occupy another major niche theme, which is important particularly for the strongly growing automotive industry in India. At the same time this exhibition enables us to profit from synergies with EUROGUSS in Nrnberg and the CHINA DIECASTING in Shanghai and from the know-how available there, explains Sonia Prashar. The

sixth edition of the ALUCAST trade fair will take place in Bangalore in South India in December 2014.

Powerful network of partners and associationsThe broad-based portfolio not only covers key growth sectors of the Indian economy, but also the themes of the main sectors of the NrnbergMesse Group. So the events in India fit into the existing international exhibition network. Besides PAINTINDIA, which supplements the worldwide coatings network, and ACREX India, which reinforces the Chillventa events, fensterbau/frontale india, Powder & Bulk Solids India and BIOFACH India enhance existing theme clusters.

NrnbergMesse India intends to expand the existing exhibitions in the coming years and strengthen the role of international exhibition networks. We already profit from numerous cooperations with sector and industry associations. These associations play a major role in India and are some of the top brands in the exhibition market, explains Sonia Prashar. NrnbergMesse India cooperates with organizations like ISHRAE (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) for ACREX India, or the publishers Colour Publications and Vincentz Network for PAINTINDIA.

The exhibition company also cooperates closely with the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and achieves valuable mutual synergies with the events at the home location in Nrnberg. Whereas the Indian subsidiary profits from the established exhibitions in Nrnberg, NrnbergMesse India increases the awareness of the exhibition portfolio abroad. On the other hand, visitors to the exhibitions in India establish the connection with the events in Germany and are interested in visiting the relevant counterpart exhibition, which contributes to the large international share of visitors and exhibitors.

IAEE Guidelines for Display Rules and Regulations COVERDALLAS, 2 October 2014 The International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) has updated its Guidelines for Display Rules and Regulations to promote continuity and consistency among North American exhibitions and events. This revised 2014 edition is a resource for exhibitions and events organizers to use in creating consistent and fair exhibiting standards for their events. It is the model for most domestic exhibitions and events and therefore recommended that exhibitions and events organizers include a copy in the exhibition or event prospectus and/or exhibitor rules and regulations.

"Periodically, IAEE organizes a task force of its members to review, discuss and update the existing Guidelines for Display Rules and Regulations, which exhibition organizers and their exhibitors use in producing their events," notes IAEE Guidelines for Display Rules and Regulations Task Force Chairperson Tom Corcoran.

"It had been three years since the last review of these guidelines. In this edition, the changes consist of minor tweaks and some additional information to help the reader, as well as updating several graphics."

These Guidelines afford exhibitors a maximum return

on their exhibit investments. Compliance with fire, safety, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and other state, federal or provincial government requirements are addressed. In the 2014 edition, further clarification was submitted in the following areas:

It is IAEE's goal that the Display Rules and Regulations, ultimately developed by each exhibitions and events organizer, will provide exhibitors with all the information necessary to properly design and build exhibits, as well as plan their exhibit's layout and content. Show organizers should present the professional standards expected of exhibitors. Finally, organizers should assure all exhibitors, regardless of exhibit size or location, an environment conducive to successful interaction with their audiences.

IFAT Eurasia will be celebrating its premiere from April 16 to 18, 2015 at the Congresium International Convention & Exhibition Centre (CICEC) in Ankara. This trade fair for environmental technologies is being supported by government and businesses in both Turkey and abroad. Important companies such as ASTM, BHS Sonthofen, DENZ MHENDSLK, EBRO, Endress+Hauser, KROHNE, STANDART POMPA and WILO will be represented at the show.

Tolga zkaraka, Managing Director of MMI Eurasia, explains: "There is strong demand for IFAT Eurasia. As an international trade fair located in Turkey, it brings suppliers and users together under one roof from east and west. With the support of the international partners, IFAT Eurasia will play a substantial part in promoting the development of the Turkish environmental technology sector." This is also underlined by Ozgur Ucas, Technical Director at DENZ MHENDSLK: "We have already exhibited at IFAT in Munich and we know that this trade fair has a worldwide reputation. It is exciting to now experience the premiere of IFAT Eurasia in our country; we are confidant that it will be a real support for the presentation of the local market and the market participants."

IFAT Eurasia is being supported not only by the Ministry for Forestry and Water Affairs and the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, but also by the Union of Municipalities of Turkey and the Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection.

Rdiger Heidebrecht, Head of Department Training & International Cooperation at the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (Deutsche Vereinigung fr Wasserwirtschaft, Abwasser und Abfall DWA), sees IFAT Eurasia as a sensible addition to the further internationalization of the parent event, IFAT: "Turkey is an up-and-coming country, it has very close connections to the Turkic states of Central Asia and it has some catching up to do in the environmental field. In wastewater technology, the DWA has worked closely with the Turkish union of municipal authorities; a joint specialist dictionary on water and wastewater has already been produced. We will therefore be actively supporting IFAT Eurasia."

Already eight pavilions are in planning for the

premiere of IFAT Eurasia. As well as Austria, China, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the US, German Water Partnership (GWP) has also announced their participation. Sabine von Lonski, Head of Operative Business at GWP, explains: "IFAT Eurasia and German Water Partnership are a perfect pairing for successfully ensuring the operative implementation of the new GWP strategy 'Global Market Campaign Water' on the extremely important target market of Turkey. We will be putting on a large joint presentation of well known firms."

Dr. Armin Vogel, Chairman of German Recycling Technologies and Waste Management Partnership (German RETech Partnership), also emphasizes the benefits of a partnership with the trade fair for the Eurasian market, because "IFAT Eurasia helps us, as part of the RETech objectives, to support and promote exports by German firms from the recycling segment. We are confident that this cooperation will also be additional advertising for IFAT, the parent fair in Munich."

Companies interested in exhibiting can apply up until December 1, 2014. Further information: www.ifat-eurasia.com.

Following a theme of lightweighting with focus on polymers and composites, the show is spread over an area of 2000 square metres with nearly 70 exhibitors displaying different technologies with an elaborate spectrum of products under one roof. The show also seeks to serve as an innovative platform for the OEMs, Tier 1 and Tier 2 vendors to network, explore joint projects, and interact with the government officials. In sync with the theme of the show, it also saw a series of seminars on relevant topics adding significant value to the event. The topics included auto components design and the role of polymer composites, innovative thermoplastic materials and applications for automotive safety and sustainability, economical way of lightweighting technologies for auto ancillaries for enhanced efficiency, and many

others. While it is known that advanced materials such as polymers and composites are being heavily considered as suitable alternatives to heavy metals used in the production of vehicles to achieve weight reduction, the industry heads are enthusiastic about the new business opportunities taking shape in the near future.

According to reports, the Indian composite industry is pegged at Rs 15,000 crore and is expected to grow at 15 percent per annum over the next four years. Given its array of applications, polymers and composites are being increasingly explored for newer applications to make vehicles lighter and thereby more fuel efficient and greener.

Held between 25 to 27 September 2014, around 10,250 trade visitors came to the Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.

A total of 230 exhibitors presented their products, this represented an increase in the number of exhibitors and in the occupied net area. The area of food processing was represented at both trade fairs for the first time and is to be expanded further in the future.

A striking feature this time was that the stand presentations of the exhibitors were in part substantially more extravagant than in the past years. The picture on BCEC was characterised by intensive technical discussions at trade fair stands with lots of visitors on the three days of International PackTech India and drink technology India.

The organisers, Messe Dsseldorf and its Indian subsidiary for International PackTech India as well as Messe Mnchen International and its subsidiary MMI India

for drink technology India, also drew a most positive balance.

"We have achieved a completely new level with this result," declared Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Messe Mnchen International. The very positive result of the trade fair duo makes us optimistic for the future."

The next International PackTech India and drink technology India and is expected to take place from April 28 to 30, 2016, again in the Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre in Mumbai.
