Behavior

Positive Behavior at West Woods Elementary

Our goal is to continue building a proactive approach to positive behavior for ALL classes at West Woods by using systemic practices that involve teachers, students, and parents.

Promoting Positive Behavior through Systemic Practices The following are systemic practices we implemented last year and will continue to use West Woods Elementary.

★ PAWS tickets for positive behavior★ PAWS students of the month★ Systemic school-wide clip charts ★ Classroom Think sheets★ Office Referral sheets

PAWS (Pride, Attitude, Wise Choices, Safety)★ PAWS tickets are positive reinforcement for students doing the

right thing.

★ Teachers and staff give out PAWS tickets to all kids anytime and anyplace

during the West Woods school day.

★ 4th Grade community works towards a grade level reward with PAWS tickets

★ 4 students from each class are recognized each month based on PAWS with a certificate, prize, and their picture on the PAWS bulletin board.

7 Mindsets“Combining elements of

relationship-based teaching and social-emotional learning, the 7

Mindsets distills extensive research on the nature of

happiness and success into tools that provide a new language and operating system for schools and

classrooms.”

Testing

Benchmark Testing

● Jeffco students take 3 benchmark assessments in MAP (K-5) each year. Assessments are given in the beginning of year (Aug), middle of year (Dec), and end of year (May).

● They take CMAS (3-5) once at the end of the year.

● Purpose for benchmark assessments - performance over time and classroom data collected by your child’s teacher can provide additional information about your student’s success.

Benchmark Testing- MAP

● An adaptive assessment that provides information for all students regardless if they are currently below, at, or above grade level

● Real time data that is aligned to the Colorado Academic Standards

● Teachers are looking for performance over time

○ Scores may decline from one test to the next. One low test score is not cause for immediate concern.

Benchmark Testing- CMAS

● Colorado Measures of Academic Success

● State’s common measurement of students’ progress at

the end of the school year in English language arts, math,

science and social studies

● Fourth grade students take the CMAS tests in math and

English language arts. In 2020, about a third of schools

will administer the CMAS social studies assessments in

grades four.

● Scores will come home mid Fall of the following year. All

questions regarding CMAS should be directed to Stacy

Pullen, our assistant principal. You may also copy your

homebase teacher.
