They went into business together and proved very successful. One day the rich man called his builder friend and told him he was going to be away for a year and while he was away he wanted him to build a most luxurious house. He said, “Here are the plans. I have deposited in the bank un- der your signature the amount needed to build the house.” The builder took the plans and started to think. “This could be my opportunity. I know the building business. I can trim some corners, pocket the money and no one will be any the wiser.” This is what he did. From foundaon to roof, he used the cheapest labour and materials. When the house was com- pleted, he had cut the cost by a third. The rich man came back aer a year when the house was completed. Together they went to view it and the rich man said to the builder, “I didn’t tell you this before I le. I wanted it to be a surprise. You have served me long and well, and I wanted to show my appreciaon. This is your house. Here’s the keys. You live in it.” In the months ahead the poorly constructed house mocked, jeered and laughed at him and said, “You cheated your- self.” We too are in the building business, building honourable and respecta- ble lives. If we build our life on cheap and shabby materials, one day an empty shell of a life will look at us, mock us and say, “You cheat- ed yourself.” Christian Meditation will resume in Patricks Parish Centre, Loughboy on Wednesday 20th September at 4pm. All are welcome.

Prayers & Thoughts for the Week

Monday 11th September - It’s the anniversary of the day now known simply as 9/11 when hundreds of lives were lost and hundreds more ruined. We pray that ‘Time’, the great healer, has begun to ease the grief of those sll struggling to come to terms with the loss of a loved one who simply disappeared beneath the Twin Towers, leaving no trace. We pray for the hundreds of children now growing up with only one parent, may they know you as their Father; and we pray for the Unit-ed States of America that they will accept their responsibilies as a major power in our increasingly dangerous world, bringing jusce and wisdom to all their spheres of acvity.

Tuesday 12th September - We pray for all school children as they sele into their new schools and classrooms. We especially pray for those who are a lile nervous of what to expect from their teachers as evidenced in the prayer from young James: “Dear God, some teachers are nice and they don’t

shout. Please help the shouty ones to be quiet and all of them to be nice. Help us to be nice too.”

Wednesday 13th September - Let us be mindful of the way we speak to one another. St James wrote: “the tongue is a fire; with it we bless the Lord and with it we curse men who are made in the likeness of God.” Help us, Lord, to choose our words wisely. Put kind words into our mouths and guard us against hurul and malicious gossip.

Thursday 14th September - The Feast of the Triumph of the Cross. Lord, today we celebrate the fact that your beloved Son made an instrument of humili-aon and death the instrument of our salvaon and conquered the world, not by the sword but by the cross.

Saturday 16th September - Its Internaonal Day for the preservaon of the Ozone Layer. Loving Lord, help us to treat your creaon with respect. When our world is in despair and the way ahead is hard to follow, renew in us a sense of hope.

Pope Francis Quote - “God always has paence.”
