KINNEY 4-H AWARDS BANQUET
The Kinney 4-H club had a full house at the Annual Awards Dinner on Sunday, September 8. It was held at the Episcopal Church hall. Old and new families were treated to dinner and 4-H member
achievements were recognized from the past year. The 4-H club recognized The Kinney County Chamber of Commerce and the Texas Farm Bureau as the 2019 Friends of 4-H.
The attendees got to take a “Where are they today?” moment with the introduction of the evening’s guest speaker: Tyler Schuster. Tyler was a super 4-H member in her career, holding Club President multiple times, being awarded the highest Club Point Award of Diamond, and the highest State-wide award that
can be earned, which is Gold Star. Upon graduation from Brackett High School in 2017, she has moved to Stephenville to attend Tarleton State University where she is already in her senior year, majoring in
Agricultural Services and Development. She is serving as the Student Body President at Tarleton State and is a National Collegiate Beef Advocate with American National Cattle Women. She spoke to the 4-H
members about taking the opportunity to learn from your project leaders and the Extension Agent, to grow in 4-H and take the skills it hones with them in their future endeavors. She said, “You may not know
it now, but what you are learning now, you will need in your future.” The 2019-2020 Kinney 4-H Club Officers were inducted at the banquet. Past President, Giovanni
Rodriguez turned over the gavel to Fawn Schott. Amelia Rose Pimentel is Vice President, Secretary is Logan Knox, Treasurer is Caydie Castro, Reporter is Abigail Coffman, Council Delegates are Jr. Alivia
Johnson, Intermediate-Will Lewis, and Senior-Giovanni Rodriguez. This year the Club will be managed by: Pam Schott and Rachel Mancha.
Fourteen 4-H members were recognized for competing with their animal projects beyond the County level: David & Ruby Castillo, Caraline & Madeleine Ducharme, Jack & Will Lewis, Daniella & Guillermo
Mancha, Kassandra Mason, Kaili Price, Giovanni Rodriguez, Fawn Schott, Destiny Soliz, and Kevin Uresti. Eight members were recognized for competing in the Food and Nutrition and Food Challenge
contests outside of County: Caydie Castro, Abigail Coffman, Madeleine Ducharme, Gwen Hay, Hannah Laub, Will Lewis, and Lucinda & Daniella Mancha.
Senior 4-H’er of the Year was Fawn Schott, Intermediate 4-H’er of the Year was Caydie Castro, and the Junior 4-H’ers of the Year was Abigail Coffman. The Club had a huge Bronze award class: David Castillo, Ruby Castillo, Jose Castillo, Caydie Castro, Abigail Coffman, Madeleine Ducharme, Logan
Knox, Will Lewis, Kassandra Mason, Lucinda Mancha, Zoey Porter, Fawn Schott, and Ashlyn Smith. The Club’s special Top Hand Award earner for 2019 is someone who always willing to step up and lend a helping hand whenever they see a need or are called on. They are exemplarily active 4-H members.
This year’s Top Hand Award was Giovanni Rodriguez. The club thanked project volunteers, the Extension Agent, and County Support Staff, and most of all
their parents for all their efforts with 4-H projects, contests, club operations, and the financing of all their 4-H activities. They thanked: Amy Lewis and Rachel Mancha for Food and Nutrition and the past year’s
Club management, Darren Johnson and Ken Knox for Shooting Sports, and Pam Melancon for the Rabbit Project. Members of the Kinney County Junior Livestock Board were also acknowledged for all
they do for Kinney 4-H members.
