Charlie WaiteLot # 27

Charlie Waite is firmly established as one of the world’s leading Landscape photographers. His photographic style is often considered to be unique, in that his photographs convey an almost spiritual quality of serenity and calm.“I had never purposely travelled anywhere without a map, but I chose to when visiting the Somme and felt that ungoverned wandering might suit my mood. A turn of a corner gifted this waterlogged grove to me. Being struck by the silver bark, I waited for the pale grey of the prevailing sky, too similar in tone to the trees, to be replaced by a chalky blue that would provide greater separation. After the previous week’s flooding, the water had lowered by just a few inches leaving a dark damp belt, which conveniently separated the base of each tree from its accompanying reflection; an incidental consequence but a pivotal one.”
