EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD

“Open Wide the Doors to Christ”

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad! I wish you and your families a holy and blessed Easter Day and Easter Season! Today, and throughout the next 50 days, as we celebrate with great festivity the central mystery of our faith, I pray that all of us come to a deeper appreciation of what our God has done for us and how much he loves us! As we give full voice to our Alleluias throughout these Easter Days and confidently sing out the great Mystery of our Faith, “We proclaim your death, O Lord, and profess your resurrection, until you come again,” may we be joyful bearers of the Easter message of life and hope. Christ makes all things new! How will he continue to make all things new through us? May we, his disciples today, courageously stand for life, in what we say and do, in the ways we treat others. and in the way we stand up for others, no matter the cost.

Congratulations to Morgan Higgins! Through the waters of Baptism, the fullness of the gift of the Holy Spirit in Confirmation, and the reception of the Body and Blood of Christ in Eucharist, Morgan was fully initiated into the Catholic faith at this year’s Easter Vigil. I do hope you have the opportunity to meet Morgan and congratulate her. She is very excited about becoming a member of the Church and worshipping with Saint John Paul II Parish community.

Special thanks to the parish staff and all who offered to share their gifts in the liturgical ministries this Easter Triduum. I am most grateful to all who helped out in any way “behind the scenes” or at the actual liturgies. Thank you to our Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who minister to the homebound, those in assisted and nursing care facilities, and those in hospitals. It is a great comfort to our parishioners who are unable to worship with the faith community to have a representative of our parish bring them Holy Communion, pray with them, and assure them of our continued thoughts and prayers. Thanks also to those who delivered flowers this past Tuesday to numerous “homebound” parishioners. I know that your presence and “special delivery “of the gift from the parish brought great joy to those you visited. To all in our parish who share your special gifts in any way, please know that you are greatly appreciated.

I would like to share some important information with you. Last month I was approached by an interested party inquiring if our parish might be open to having a conversation regarding the Parish Office Center and grounds as they were interested in purchasing it. After contacting the diocese (per procedure of the sale of buildings and property), communicating and discussing that request with the Parish Finance and Pastoral Councils, I want you to know that we have entered into serious negotiations. I will keep you abreast of what follows and the impact it may have on our parish.

Lord, you know all things,

especially our love for you.

We humbly ask you to send the Holy Spirit

to dwell in our hearts

so that love will shine forth

as we strive to grow in our faith

and in serving one another.

Help us to be generous in sharing our gifts,

especially through the Catholic Services Appeal,

as we assist the Church of the Diocese of Saginaw

in making a difference in the lives of our brothers

and sisters.

Graciously hear our prayer

in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Very early in the morning after the Sabbath, Mary

Alleluia!

Blessings on your Easter Days! Sister Chris Gretka
