19 | 2010 TRAINING DIRECTORY Job Role This course would suit anybody interested in developing their Hospitality Skills and Knowledge with the view to gaining employment in the Hospitality Industry as a Kitchenhand / Cook. Employment Prospects Cooks and Kitchen Hands are always in demand and are a definite current skill shortage area. Work would be undertaken in various hospitality enterprises where food is prepared and served, including restaurants, hotels, catering operaons, clubs, pubs, cafes, cafeterias, coffee shops and minesites. Pre-Requisites Australian Cizen or Resident plus a sound level of literacy and numeracy. What’s Involved? This course is run at our training restaurant. Students parcipate in our training restaurant 3 nights per week for 15 weeks where they prepare, cook and serve food to real paying customers who fill in a customer survey at the end of their meal to provide real me feedback to the students. The Chef Lecturers are current industry experienced Head Chefs who are passionate about passing on their Hospitality skills and knowledge to the students. The students also receive a Chef’s Uniform and a basic knife kit. Costs and Government Funding The cost of the course is $2450 however you may be eligible for government funding which would provide either a significant reducon in course fees or even a fee free course depending on your circumstances. Recognion of Prior Learning If you are currently working as a Kitchen Hand or Cook and feel you can demonstrate the skills and knowledge of this qualificaon you are welcome to apply for Recognion of Prior Learning (RPL).
