GUIDELINES FOR GODPARENTS/SPONSORS

Have you been asked to be a GODPARENT? Have you been asked to SPONSOR someone ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, or for an adult in the RCIA program? It is an honor and a privilege to be asked. You are seen as someone that a family, child, teenager, or adult looks up to as living a strong, Christian Catholic faith. You model that behavior in the way that you live your life.

To receive a sponsorship form signed and sealed by the Pastor, please keep the following in mind: I am age 16 or older. I am registered in the parish. If married, the marriage is recognized by the Catholic Church. I attend Mass on a regular basis. I contribute to the support of the Church, as best I can. (Attendance is taken by the

envelopes in the collection basket). I receive Sacraments according to the Laws of the Church, and I fulfill the requirements listed above. The Church takes very seriously the role of being a sponsor. Choosing a sponsor would be based on the person’s dedication to the faith and regular practice thereof.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Good day to all of you!

Summer’s upon us and in a couple of weeks, the dog days of August. I hope you had a restful break from work. God rested on the 7th day. Sunday was part of his creation.

And so, we remember those days, when shops and stores are closed on Sundays. It is the holy day for the week. For most people, it became a weekly tradition to gather as a family for the evening’s meal. I think some of us still hold on to these practices. Otherwise, not a bad idea to start one.

More so when we realize, as the years roll by, that time indeed flies. Especially, when we’re having fun. More so when we wake up, one fine day maybe, and find out that our children are also having families of their own, and we reply to them calling us Grandma or Grandpa.

Admittedly, our life is over like a sigh. Our span is seventy years or eighty for those who are strong. That is according to Psalm 89. But again, it is the quality of life we are after, not the quantity. It is living life to the fullest, according to God’s will.

Reality may sometimes obfuscate the dreams and visions we have since our growing up years. When days turn to months and months to years, when years turn to generations, and generations become memories, what becomes real in our hands are the passages of time, bringing with them lessons learned from life’s experiences.

Interestingly enough that Jesus had two characters, the priest and the Levite, bypassing the half-dead traveler in this weekend’s Gospel. Both saw the victim, but did not want to be involved. Both went the other way. They were the Pontius Pilates in Jesus’s story.

The lawyer started it all with his questioning. He wanted to be specific—who is my neighbor? Jesus answered him with the parable. This is as specific as it goes. Two passersby and one who got involved. “Who was the neighbor to the victim?” Jesus asked. “The one who treated him with mercy,” he said.

And so, he commanded him., “Go and do likewise.”

Now, we have this confounding reality in our lives. With the passing of time, we are not commanded to be passersby, but neighbors to each other. Regardless of race, color, language, religion or gender, we are asked to love. Love God and love your neighbor. Love the Lord, your God, with everything in your power—heart, being, strength and mind. Love your neighbor as yourself, as Jesus said, as Jesus did. Amen.

Blessings and regards, Fr. PJ

Pastoral Care Rooted in the Gospel invitaon to share in the healing mission of Jesus Christ, we advance the compassionate and competent spiritual, pastoral and sacramental care of God's suffering people by resourcing the clergy, pastoral ministers, healthcare professionals and caregivers who serve them. Those who offer pastoral care communicate God's love and compassion 'person-to-person' by offering spiritual and sacramental support, including the Sacrament of Anoinng of the Sick offered by a priest. We connect with healthcare instuons, medical professionals, chaplains and clergy by providing extensive consultaon and resources for the holisc health and well-being of Catholic paents. Your gi helps you to live and spread the gospel.

Mini Meditaon

On Respecng Creaon

“Do not forget the Creator – Christ tells us – and respect Creaon! Perform your work by using

properly the resources God has bestowed upon you! Transform his riches with the aid of science and

technology, but do not squander them, do not be a heedless exploiter of the goods created! Neither

destroy nor contaminate! Remember your neighbor, remember the poor! Think of future generaons!

Here’s One Positive Encouragement

From your fellow parishioner

Hellooooooooo………. Our Lady of Hope Parish, how was your week after the 4th of July?

In the morning when you awaken, did you choose joy and happiness or negativity and pain to start your day? It is really your choice to make, no matter how bad or good you may feel your life is going in those first few moments upon awakening.

How do you feel? Have you adjusted to being a member of the new parish of Our Lady of Hope? Do you realize your adjustment and relationship to your new parish is strictly up to you? If so, stop putting up roadblocks that are stopping you from engaging more in parish life and organizations. We cannot hope to build a better parish without first improving ourselves as a parishioner. To that end, each of us must work towards his or her improvement and at the same time share a general responsibility for all parishioners. Our particular duty, being, to aid those to whom we can be most useful.

All labor that uplifts the parish, no matter how menial, has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with pride. The best way to find yourself is to immerse yourself in parish life with Christ by being of service to others. As a parish, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the parish as it is to let parish life help to remake ourselves as a better person through God.
