    If the near back attacks the los, attack him andmeet him in the backfield, blow him up. If he is a

    ball carrier, tackle him. If he is a blocker, keep

    outside leverage and drive him into the runnerspath. Do not hesitate! Get psycho!

    If you read flow away, as you step with fullback,check thru near a gap for possible counter, reverse

    or trap. Pursuit with eye for cut back. If there aretwo pullers, play under the second puller.

    You are the rover, you will play in multiplealignments.

    Your base alignment is;

    10 yards deep versus two wr sets

    8 yards deep versus one wr sets

    6 yards deep versus 0 wr sets

    Shade over the weak side guard. In a tough alignment, you are a linebacker. You

    will play no deeper than 6 yards. You will be in onevery tackle. Thats a linebackers rule.

    You will not backpedal at the snap. You key theball. You will shuffle toward the flow. If you readthat the qb has bootlegged attack him full bore

    with the intention of forcing a fumble with a fiercecollision.

    If you read that the qb has handed off, run into theplay with the intention of forcing a fumble with a

    fierce collision. When given an opportunity to blitz, make sure you

    are a difference maker. Blow up everything inyour path and be in on every tackle.

    Declare formation strength- roger=right, louie= left. The stud te is the strong side te.

    Align with outside foot splitting the crotch of the

    te. Feet staggered with inside foot up, outside footback at approximately a 30 degree angle. Handsare up and ready to strike the te in the sternum.

    Deny the te a free release and never allow aninside release. Always redirect outside and downthe los. Each play is an opportunity to be morehated than the last.

    You are the reason we run this defense. You arethe terminator.

    When given the opportunity to blitz, do so with anappetite for destruction. Destroy all blockers

    between you and the ball. If the te attempts to go out for a pass, delay his

    route and cover him man to man.

    Align, inside shade on the #1 receiver to your side.In the event that sam chooses to cover the onlyreceiver on your side, then you must apply the

    corner over rule unless there is a full call by themike backer. Remember, 5 guys have to cover 5guys. You always have a man.

    Stance is designed to deny the inside release.

    Ignore outside fakes and prepare to jam and rideall inside routes. Deny inside release and redirectoutside and down the los. If your receiver is goingdeep, play inside trail technique.

    Align with inside foot up- 1.5 to 2 yards outside ofthe tackle or te to your side.

    Be instantly aware of any flanking offensive

    player (ie, wing or wr with a small split)

    Be instantly aware of any potential crack backblock

    Key the near foot of the near back. If he stepslaterally prepare for sweep, if he steps toward theline, prepare for kickout.

    Always force the ball, keep the ball to your inside,

    maintain outside leverage on blockers.

    Getting a great take off is VERY IMPORTANT.Watch the ball from the corner of your eye andtake off with a burst into the backfield, you are

    reading the play and attacking the ball on yourfirst two steps. Make plays that other players canonly dream about. Get to the ball!!!

    Always cross the face of any blocker, never allow

    a blocker to get his head to your outside shoulderand arm. Use the dip and rip move to maintain

    proper position and defeat the blocker.

    Be in on every tackle- never rest!

    When both backs go away, you must assume its abootleg or reverse or counter. Be prepared to makea quick move inside on the counter or a quick

    move upfield to stop the qb on a keeper. Neverallow the qb outside of you. Be alert for pullers!

    Do not bite inside, never show your numbers tothe inside of a formation. Keep them upfield.

    Squeeze down on all counters and off tackle runs.Never be blown out. Be a wreaking ball!

    If qb shows option, slow play it, on crash call,smash the qb.

    In a crash call, align with outside foot up, angle intoward the fullback, attack the area directly behindthe te or t to your side, do not over penetrate,

    refuse to be kicked out, tackle all inside runs orplays to the other side for a loss.

    In a claw call, align with inside foot up, angledat the inside shoulder of the te. Attack and

    neutralize his attempts to block you before makingyour way into the backfield. Get a good shot onthe te.
