Welcome Message The 45th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology President, Masashi Akiyama (Professor and Chairman, Department of Dermatology, Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine)

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

It is a great honor and pleasure for us to have the opportunity to host the 45th Annual Meeting of the

Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology (JSID 2020) in the second week of December 2020.

Before the current devastating COVID-19 pandemic disrupted many things, we had planned to hold

the JSID 2020 in Nagoya, Japan.

The city of Nagoya is located in the center of Japan and is famous for many major bushos or the

Japanese military commanders of the Sengoku period, including the shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu, who

founded the Edo Shogunate. During your stay at the city for the meeting, you could have visited

Nagoya’s sightseeing spots, including the Nagoya Castle, and have enjoyed the atmosphere of the

Edo Samurai era, which is inherent to this city.

However, our plans have changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. After thoughtful deliberation

on the present overwhelming situation and considering the safety and well-being of the participants,

we have decided to hold our meeting online only. I greatly appreciate your generous cooperation

with regard to our virtual meeting.

The JSID 2020 will be the first virtual annual meeting of the JSID, and all of you can enjoy our

meeting in your homes and offices without any time constraints or traveling expenses.

I believe our virtual meeting JSID 2020 will provide a wonderful online platform and an important

opportunity for the participants to share the research achievements and latest information on the

advances made in investigative dermatology and skin science while being in the comforts of their

home.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all members of the JSID and other participating societies.

We hope that you will be able to enjoy the JSID 2020, the first virtual annual meeting of the JSID.
