Lucille E. Baisch Lucille E. Baisch, of Clear-water, Florida, formerly of Eden, New York died Friday, March 27, 2015 at age 97. She was born January 27, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Francis Price and Mary (Brown) Price. She was a World War II Bride; marry-ing late Herbert E. Baisch, Sr. She was known for her lemon pie and apple dump-lings. She enjoyed playing Bridge, camping and fish-ing, gardening and raising her family. She worked for the Eden Central School District as a library clerk prior to her retirement. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother; Joseph Price and a sister; Genevieve Nu, and her el-dest and loveliest daughter; Judith (Richard) Stokely of Alamogordo, New Mexico. Survived by one son; Her-bert E. Baisch, Jr. of Lake City, Florida, two daughters; Susan (Carl) Baisch of Hud-son, Florida and Margaret (John) Nedimyer of Clear-water, Florida. Also sur-vived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren. No Prior visitation will be observed. A Celebration of Life shall be had in the summertime in Eden and be open to friends and fam-ily. Selina P. Stevens Selina P. Stevens of Oris-kany, NY, formerly of Eden, NY, died Sunday, March 22, 2015 at age 78 following an illness. Her husband is Donald A. Stevens, Sr. The couple celebrated 59 years of marriage on October 8, 2014. Born June 8, 1936 in Taylor, PA, she is the daugh-ter of the late Erve J. and Selina (Nancarrow) Powell. Selina was raised in Mos-cow, PA and was a gradu-ate of Moscow High School. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the US Postal Service. She was Past Ma-tron of the Barlett Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Belfast, NY; and a mem-ber of the Campus Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Oriskany. Selina was also a member of the Eden Emer-gency Squad. Surviving in addition to her husband are her daughters; Selina Guendel and husband Carl, and Frances Leonard and husband Anthony; her son Donald A. Stevens, Jr.; and her sister Frances Dubran-sky and husband William; grandchildren: Anthony Leonard Jr., Rory Bialecki, Elizabeth Leonard, Johna-thon Leonard and wife Pa-mela, Rebecca Dziamski and husband Chad, Arthur Leonard, Daniel Stevens, Helen Stevens and Selina E. Guendel and seven great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will conducted in June, at a time to be an-nounced. Interment: Mil-waukee Cemetery - New-ton-Ransom Twp. PA. Faith Bible Baptist Travels to the Minalayan Mountains

The Faith Bible Baptist Church and Evans Chapel recent-ly sponsored a trip to the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal. Four individuals from our area spent two weeks trekking and helping translators with language research. They saw some of the highest mountains in the world, ate local cui-sine, stayed in guest homes, saw Buddhist and Hindu re-ligious sites, visited one small Christian church, and met many Nepalis and Tibetans. Boys and Girls Club Week “Great Futures Start Here” The slogan of the Boys and Girls Club of America was the vision behind the week long celebration at the B&G Club recently. Months ago, the staff at the Club surveyed the members asking what they wanted to be when they grew up. The most popular answers were “football player”, something in the entertainment field (singer, rockstar, etc.), or something animal related (ani-mal rescuer, vet, etc.). The program director used this as guidance as she invited several guest speakers. First being, guitar player and music producer, Matt Pszonak. Pszonak was able to share with the interested members about his journey in the music industry, and encouraged them to fol-low their own dreams, and told them to remember “your story will be different than anybody else’s”. The follow-ing day, the members were able to Skype with Mississippi State football player, Hunter Bradley (pictured). The young men who already participate in little loop football were ec-static to ask Bradley about how he got to where he was today. They ended the conversation by asking for Bradley’s Instagram name, and promised to follow him. The last ca-reer themed event was a tour of the local veterinary clinic. Staff brought the members over to the clinic to see what a day working with animals would look like. Beyond these career development opportunities, there were skits, talent shows, competitions, crafts, and many more activities for the members to enjoy. Overall the week was a success. The members had fun (and hopefully learned something too!)

Southtowns Catholic School Learns about Passover

Mrs. Barbara Manley's Middle School Religion classes had a lesson on Passover. Each class sat a large table and ate unleaven bread and other foods that represented pass-over. It is a tradition during the Seder meal for family & friends to unite and narrate the story of exodus, drink wine (the kids had grape juice) and eat symbolic foods to ob-serve the occasion. Mrs. Patricia Newton's Grade 5 class & Mrs. Ann Coo-per's Grade 6 class took a fall field trip to Bowman Farm in North Collins, New York. The kids took a tour of the barns with and saw how they inspected winter squash, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, grapes, beans, eggplant, pumpkins & zucchini before they were crated and placed in the refriger-ated truck to be sold in stores across the country. April is National Car Care Month: Spring into ActionApril is National Car Care Month and the Car Care Council reminds motorists to spring into action and follow 10 basic maintenance procedures to make sure their vehicles are running at peak performance for the summer driving season.

1. Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.2. Check the hoses and belts to make sure they are not cracked, brittle, frayed, loose or showing signs of excessive wear.3. Check the battery and replace if necessary. Make sure the connection is clean, tight and corrosion-free.4. Check the brake system annually and have the brake linings, rotors and drums inspected at each oil change.5. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks, damage and broken supports or hangers if there is an unusual noise. Exhaust leaks can be dangerous & must be corrected without delay.6. Schedule a tune-up to help the engine deliver the best balance of power and fuel economy and produce the lowest level of emissions.7. Check the heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system, as proper heating and cooling performance is critical for interior comfort and for safety reasons such as defrosting.8. Inspect the steering and suspension system annually including shock absorbers, struts and chassis parts such as ball joints, tie rod ends and other related components.9. Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots.10. Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and replace worn wiper blades so you can see clearly when driving during precipitation.“Whether you visit a professional service technician or do it yourself, a thorough vehicle in-spection this spring can help keep your car safe and dependable and help you avoid much higher costs down the road.
