#442 Knit Spider Designed by Kirsten Hipsky Finished Size: About 4” tall Yarn: 1 sk of Valley Yarns Northampton (100%wool, 247yds/100g) in color Black scraps of Natural or White Needles: US size 5 (3.75 mm) double pointed needles Gauge: about 5 sts = 1” in stockinette stitch Abbreviations: k knit k2tog knit 2 sts together st(s) stitch(es) Body: For stuffing, with Black, loosely wind a ball of yarn about 8” around. Cut yarn. With Black, cast on 8 sts and join in the round. Work in stockinette stitch, increasing 8 sts evenly every other round until you have 40 sts. Knit 10 rounds Insert ball of yarn into the body. Top of body will be knit around the ball. Continuing in stockinette stitch, decrease 8 sts evenly every other round until you have 8 sts. Cut yarn and draw through remaining stitches. Legs (make 8): With Black, leaving a tail, cast on 2 sts. Do not turn. Row 1: Slide sts to other end of needle, k2. Do not turn. Repeat this row until leg measures about 1” long. Cut yarn and thread through both sts. Tie tail in a firm not and trim closely. Finishing: With cast on tails, sew legs to body. With Natural or White, embroider eyes and mouth. Bury all loose ends in body.
