Fourth Sunday of Lent March 22, 2020
From the Desk of Fr. Brian Hecktor … Dear Parishioners, Usually during Lent, we have the Rite of Election and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Scrutinies for those who are becoming Catholic in our Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) program. This year, there is no one coming into the Church at our parish. However, if you or someone you know is interested in learning more about our Catholic Faith and possibly becoming Catholic, we will begin classes again in September. Fr. James Mason, President-Rector of Kenrick Glennon Seminary, recently sent a letter to the parish thanking us for our generous Christmas Collection gift to the seminary of $4385. Thank you for responding so generously to so many needs throughout the year! And thank you to everyone organizing and working the Fish Fries. I hear nothing but good things about the delicious food and the friendly workers. Keep up the great work! The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord is on Wednesday, March 25. While not a Holy Day of Obligation, it is an important part of our Faith as we celebrate Mary bravely and humbly giving her fiat, her “yes” to God’s will, which enabled our Savior to be born to us. We have Masses at 6:30 am, 8 am, and 5:30 pm. Have a great week and God bless you. Fr. Hecktor
5:30 pm Mass
every Monday - Thursday during Lent
Stations of the Cross 7 pm every Friday
during Lent Stations on (only) March 27 will be at 5 pm because of the Spring Musical. Stations on April 3 to be led by the Liturgy Committee. Lenten Regulations Fast: Ages 18–59 fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, limiting themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals each day, with no snacking between meals. Abstinence: Catholics age 14 and older abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all the Fridays of Lent.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Today, “Laetare Sunday,” breaks the somberness of Lent for a little rejoicing, and the readings all summon us to an awareness of reconciliation. One of the best-loved stories of our tradition is today’s Gospel story of the runaway son and the prodigal father. Prodigal, of course, is an adjective meaning “spendthrift or extravagant to a degree bordering on recklessness,” and although the boy maxes out the credit cards, it is really the father who is prodigal with forgiveness. …
