SANTA FE HIGH SCHOOL FALL SEMESTER NEWSLETTER Santa Fe High School Fall Semester Newsletter We will inspire students to learn, grow, build relationships, and achieve success. IN THIS ISSUE It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of our first semester of the 2017 – 18 school year. Your children have been very busy with course work, clubs, and organizations. We began the school year with what seemed like a normal start to the year; fast paced and settling into what would become your students new school year routine. Then, our community was hit with the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. After taking two weeks to rest and repair our community, our students returned to school. In this newsletter, we will highlight some of the efforts of our students, teachers, and staff who collectively provided support for our community here in Santa Fe. “We will inspire students to learn, grow, build relationships, and achieve success.” IN THIS ISSUE

It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of our first semester of the 2017 – 18 school year.

It is amazing how much our small

community does for each other in times of need.

We quickly resumed the fast-paced life of high school and our students once again began to participate in academic and extracurricular activities on campus. We will highlight some of the events that have taken place on campus during the fall semester.

We are extremely grateful to be given the opportunity to educate your students and to provide your students with an environment in which they can grow academically while finding a place to belong. We wish you and your families a very enjoyable fall season. Best regards from all of us at Santa Fe High School!

Sandi Bicknell, Coordinator of Student Activities, has kept our Student Council members busy during the fall semester:

Senior Sunrise took place on September 21st! This was our first big senior year kick off! We had over 100 seniors show up for tacos, music, and memories. Stay tuned for Senior Sunset in the spring.

STUCO Student Council

Texas Tough: Student Council sold over 700 shirts during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The proceeds from STUCO’s Texas Tough shirt sales went to local families affected by flooding.

Our First Outdoor Pep-Rally: Hurricane Harvey may have moved the location of our fist pep-rally from the traditional location of the main gym due to damage, but it definitely did not dampen our spirits. The Joust Battle was hands down a crowd favorite. Coach Taylor and Coach Wulf took home the first faculty victory of the year, crushing fellow opponents Mr. Harms and Coach Whittington. #aloha

Every year, we welcome our new freshmen to Santa Fe High School with a day we lovingly call, “Fish Camp”. Returning upper classmen

welcome our incoming freshmen and give them real advice on how to “survive”

their first year in high school. Freshmen receive their schedule, learn about

the Student Code of Conduct, meet members of clubs and organizations on campus, learn how to find

their classes, and most importantly, they get to

have fun at the Luau in the cafeteria!

Every two weeks, Ms. Crumby’s AP Environmental Science (APES) students collect the recyclable

paper around campus. Her students collect the paper, measure the quantity, and dump the paper into the receptacle outdoors. This encourages citizenship and brings awareness to reducing the amount of paper that ends up in landfills. Much of the APES curriculum is designed to bring notice to resources that are renewable.

Ms. Amy Hoff, coordinator of NHS at SFHS, would like to congratulate the new members inducted into the Ruth Young

Chapter of the National Honor Society. On Monday, November 6th,

NHS inducted 42 new members of qualifying 10th – 12th graders.

Also in NHS news, the National Honor Society holds two blood drives annually to support our local hospitals in the Galveston County area.

On Friday, November 10th, Santa Fe High School hosted their annual Veterans Day Ceremony to honor our community veterans. It is an honor to be able to host this event. Special thanks from the Veterans Day Ceremony Coordinator, Mrs. Karlee Custer, to the VFW Post 5400, the Santa Fe HS Band, SFHS Bel Canto Choir, and our guest speaker Chris Wheeler for helping to make our ceremony special. The FFA students at SFHS not only have

the task of keeping up with their grades &

attendance, but also maintaining one – sometimes two to

three animals! These students’ dedication to

their program is impressive!
