Daniel Verkerk, Mathias Alfred, Brianna Firth and Suvetha Tharmarajah travelled to Gananoque, Ontario along with parents and their coach, Mrs. McMulkin, to compete in the Timbits Elementary Provincial Curling Bonspiel. While Daniel and Mathias have been curling for a few years, it was Brianna and Suvetha’s first year curling. There were 64 teams competing from across the province. Highcastle P.S. was the only team from the Toronto District School Board! After 4 days of competition, our team won the H division trophy! I am very proud of how the team represented themselves and our school. Well done team! - Mrs. McMulkin On Thursday, May 28 th at 1pm we will be holding the “Highcastles’ Got Talent Show”. Ms.Wey, (music teacher) held auditions in her room on the second week of May. Auditions were five minutes long and we had an overwhelming response from Highcastle students. Due to time restraints we were only able to choose the top few acts. Students are encouraged to come and try out every year. So students and parents get ready for the “Highcastles' Got Talent Show”!!! We have a wide variety of performers with amazing talent - can’t wait for the show! Sweating in the Square! Earlier this month, many of Highcastle's finest dancers performed in TDSB's annual Folk Dance Jamboree at Albert Campbell Square. As you can see, our students danced up a storm! Forest of Reading @ Highcastle On Wednesday May 13th, 29 students from Highcastle went to the Harbourfront Centre to witness the Silver Birch Award Ceremony. This is the award that is given by the Ontario Library Association on behalf of students in the province of Ontario who voted on their favourite nominated book. The award was given out to Jonathan Auxier for his book, The Night Gardener. The students also took part in a number of activities that were set up by the Ontario Library Association that celebrated books, reading and writing. This was a reward for the students who participated in the Highcastle book club and read a number of books over the winter months. It was a great day and great way to finish off our reading club this year. Well done students!
