About this document

0-1

ABOUT THIS DOCUMENTThis Observation Counter Dictionary is a reference guide describing all GSM BSS network observation counters managed through the OMC- R. -

ApplicabilityThis document applies to the V15.1.1 system release. This document is part of the BSS Nortel Networks Technical Publications (NTPs). It is closely associated with the following manuals: The BSS Operating Principles manual (NTP < 07 >) describes general operating principles and explains the mechanisms that enable Man-Machine interface commands. The BSS Parameter Dictionary (NTP < 124 >) contains all the parameters used in OMC- commands. -R The OMC- R User Manual (NTPs < 128 >, < 129 > and < 130 >) is a user-oriented guide to performing Human-Machine interface commands. The BSS Operating Procedures Manual (NTP < 34 >) describes various procedures that help users operate or reconfigure a BSS.

Precautionary messageThe following message: CAUTIONGSM- specific -R Indicates that specific equipment and specific software (such as specific software in the BSC) dedicated to Railway application is used and that the feature is therefore not available for all standard GSM users.

Some GSM- specific counters listed in this dictionary contain (GSM- R V12) -R in the Feature field because they were introduced in V12.

AudienceThis document is intended for: OMC- R administrators OMC- R maintenance attendants GSM network engineers users who want to know more about OMC-R

How this document is organizedThis document is organized into three main chapters: Chapter 1 Introduction contains general information on observation counters. Chapter 2 Observation counter incrementation principles and data flow diagrams (DFD) explains the precise incrementation conditions of many counters. Chapter 5 Counter description describes all the observation counters listed by families, and explains their use. Appendix A V15 release counters contains new, modified and deleted V15 release observation counters.

Vocabulary conventionsThe glossary is presented in Manual < 00 >.

INTRODUCTIONFigure 1- 1 provides the user with guidelines for locating a BSS observation counter in the dictionary of counters, starting from different points.

Starting point

The type and class of the counter are known (for example: permanent/handover)

The number of the counter is known (for example: 1055) The Q3 name of the counter is known (for example: assignFailure)

See Chapter 4

See the index of counters at the end of the manual
