Commander’s ColumnA new member was welcomed and initiated last month at the annual
New Member Initiation Night. Thank you to all that came and enjoyed the St. Patrick’s Day dinner we had. Also, a special thank you to all that helped set up the hall after the rental we had that day. It certainly demonstrated what we can do on short notice.
You may have noticed what appear to be new faces around the post, or at least some that we haven’t seen for some time. Let’s all welcome most of the snowbirds back from Florida and other parts south now that the weather is turning warmer. We certainly welcome their help Tuesday nights at Bingo!
The scouts, both Pack 80 Cub Scouts and Troop 80 Boy Scouts, will be helping us clean up the outdoors on Saturday, April 23, after their sleepover. It’d be great if you could join us and express the appreciation for all they do to help us maintain the Post and grounds. One thing we know from the Scouting program is “It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults.”.
Also on April 23, the Legion Riders will be having a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. Be sure to mark your calendar and attend for an inexpensive meal, some great comradeship and a chance to win some of the many items being raffled. I promise to not to try to win as many as I did last time J…..NOT! See the flyer in this newsletter for details.
Have you had any inquiries from the IRS regarding your accounts? I have, and they’ve involved both the phone message and actual letter scams! This is a real Heads up alert! The scammers via phone are easy to avoid – just hang up, because the IRS doesn’t contact individuals by phone as a normal practice. However, the scammers have become a lot more creative and sent letters that really look authentic about someone trying to access your account; I took the one I received recently to the Downers Grove Police Department, which verified it was a scam letter that asked me to call a phone number if I had any questions. Guess what? It was a scam (no, I didn’t call, but found this was a scam

using an Internet Reverse Call service). We’ve all experienced enough pitfalls in life, so don’t fall into this one!
Garden planning has become more intense with the weather hopefully turning warmer and the promises of not planting too much this year have started. We’ll see. However, I’m sure we’re all hoping for a better start than last year. In case you need advice about what to plant and when, be sure to visit the Post on Saturday mornings beginning at 8:30am.

If you did not get the report template at the March meeting, please let me know. I will have some extras at Bingo or I can mail it out to you.
The next Arden Courts visit will be on March 30th. If you are able to attend, please contact Gloria Parker.
Julie Isenberger is heading up the spring fundraiser – Patriotic bracelets. All Auxiliary members will be initially given 5 to sell. Auxiliary News....cont. from pg 5....
Thanks to all of Auxiliary members who worked in the kitchen for the Fish & Hook Sport show on March 19th. It turned out to be a very full afternoon. We were busier than we expected to be which was wonderful. Everyone enjoyed meeting and serving the fishermen and it turned into a profitable afternoon.
Upcoming Events:
Our next Auxiliary meeting is April 11th at 7:00. We will be welcoming the Girl’s State candidates who will be at the post to attend an orientation session with the girls who attended last year. They will stay for a short meet and greet with the Auxiliary members over coffee and snacks. All members are asked to bring a contribution to the refreshment table.
May is Poppy month. We will be putting up the poppy board again this year to honor our veterans. More information will follow on that. If you are able to help sell poppies please contact Kim Cruz. She is coordinating the dates, times, and locations. All are welcome – no previous experience required.
June 10-11 – Special Olympics at ISU in Normal
July 13-16 – Department Convention in Springfield
August 27-September 1 – National Convention in Cincinnati.

Free Tai Chi ClassesThe Chicago Area Tai Chi Association is offering Tai
Chi classes at no cost every Saturday morning from 7:30 am to 9:30 am in the Main Hall at our Post.
Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today, is practiced as a graceful form of exercise involving a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. It has many different styles subtly emphasizing various tai chi principles and
methods, with styles focusing on health maintenance and martial arts.
Basically, Tai Chi is a noncompetitive, self-paced system of gentle physical exercise and stretching with each posture flowing into the next without pause, ensuring the body is in constant motion. Since it doesn’t require any special equipment or uniform it’s worth checking out a class, especially since there’s no cost.
