4.0 MASTER PLAN DESIGN ELEMENTS 4.1 Main Entrance Plaza The Main Entrance Plaza will be the main entrance to the park anchored by an Entry Pavilion that will double as a shade and seating structure and a ticket and control point for the Fair. The plaza area while large enough to allow for high volumes of pedestrian movement will also contain several formal planting areas and seating and a crosswalk. Incorporated as part of the plaza area will be the front door of the Art Museum. This area will be more garden-like and provide the opportunity for more formal planting arrangements while at the same time bringing focus to the Art Museums entrance. 4.0 MASTER PLAN DESIGN ELEMENTS

4.1 Main Entrance Plaza

The Main Entrance Plaza will be the main entrance to the park

anchored by an Entry Pavilion that will double as a shade and

seating structure and a ticket and control point for the Fair.

• The plaza area while large enough to allow for high volumes

4.3 Egerton and Quebec Street Entrances

• The eastern entrance to the park at Egerton has been reorganized to eliminate the Dundas Street vehicular entrance and to create a U )

4.7 Art Building and Confederation Building Terrace

• As part of the revitalization of the Art Museum a new garden terrace is proposed at the rear of the structure that would connect to the U1 r­Confederation Building's main entrance portico and the official access could be through the Confederation Building. z [J.i

• Parking area would be constructed of unit paving and concrete to create a courtyard atmosphere where parking is secondary. "'" W _I• The area could be utilized for outdoor art shows, pancake breakfasts, or other art and outdoor market related activities. ill

• Garden beds soften the space and the open courtyard allows for views into the Passive Open Space to the south. (')

Lake Shore East Park - Chicago, IL

4.9 West Entrance

The West Entrance area off of Ontario Street will improve the

pedestrian access while maintaining the vehicular movements

required for the Progress Building activities.

Re-alignment of the curb along the south face of the Administration

Building allows for a new east / west sidewalk from King Street

to the West Entry to the park.

Additional planting beds and trees will provide much

needed green space in this area and improve the pedestrian

experience.

• Be relocated further west in front of the northern fa<;:ade of the

Confederation Building.

• This relocation will open up the view to the Arts Building and place the

engine in a more prominent and meaningful location.

• This relocation will allow for the potential design and implementation of an

overhead structure to provide shelter and protection for the engine.

• Interpretive panels, hard surfaces around the engine and improved

landscaping will provide greater interaction and enjoyment for visitors to

the engine.
