The excitement of pulling out the sweaters and cozying up with some cocoa in front of the fire is getting re- placed with a longing for spring to come and brighten up the land- scape with color and life again. A craving to see longer days and feel the warmth of the sun again takes its grip, and so that makes February a great month to take a vacation to a warmer destination. Here are 4 suggestions that can cure your winter blues, and are worthy of your bucket list too! #1 Kauai, Hawaii: Known for its lush tropical landscapes and untouched beauty, Kauai, is a wonderful winter destination. Just Google the island and you will see images that will make winter melt away. Some of the must seelocations in Kauai are the stunning Napali Coast, Waimea Canyon (a.k.a. the Grand Canyon of the Pacific”), and the historical town of Hanalei. Plus, the winterweather in Kaui in February is an average 75 degrees Fahrenheit. #2 Coronado Beach, San Diego, CA: San Diegos weather is just about perfect all year long. And if you want to see an exceptional, white sand beach right in the heart of southern Cali, then dig your toes in the sand at Coronado Beach. Just a short drive out of San Diego, across a bridge, and you find yourself on this quaint island. The town is charming and the historic Hotel Del Coronado is stunning. You will find a variety of ways to entertain yourself on this island community. Theres shopping, eating, and even beachfront ice-skating at certain times of the year. Warning though, this island is not for the faint of heart when it comes the cost of dropping money on fun. #3 The Florida Keys: Key Largo, Key West, Islamorada, Marathon, and Big Pine Key make up the gorgeous destination simply known to many as The Keys”. Forming the southernmost portion of the continental U.S., you can reach the Keys by land, sea, or air and suddenly you are in another world. White sand, coconut trees, and air so thick it drapes over you and thaws your February freeze. There is so much to do here from snorkeling and diving to sightseeing and taking in the arts and culture, or you can grab a book, slip into a hammock and do nothing at all. #4. Gulf Shores, AL: Who knew you could find a bucket-worthy beach in Alabama? Its true. Gulf Shores, where the city website states, Small Town, Big Beachis a hidden gem on the Gulf Coast. The water is turquoise, the sand is white, and the town in charming. What more could you ask for in February? How about a balmy February temperature of 65 to 70 degrees? However you spend your winter vacation, whether traveling or simply dreaming of traveling, I hope its a great one.

It’s February and by this time of year the infatuation with the winter season is waning. The excitement of pulling out the sweaters and cozying up with some cocoa in front of the fire is getting re-placed with a longing for spring to come and brighten up the land-scape with color and life again. Stay Motivated to Workout In 2015! Here is How…

and beyond! Here are a few tips to keep you motivated…

Did you make a goal to get fit in 2015? Is your January determination fading in February? You’re not alone. The percentage of people who make real, lasting changes in their diet and fitness lifestyle is actually pretty low. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t beat the odds and get fit in 2015

1. Decide. That sounds easy enough. In fact, most people think they already decided when they wrote “work out” on their top ten list of resolutions. But, it’s more than that. It’s a resolute decision that has to happen between your ears. Decide today that you will move your body 4-6 times per week, even if it’s just a few minutes a day. When you really decide on a deeper level then you have a commitment you didn’t have before, and it’s no longer an option to skip out on your workouts.

2. Schedule. This is for real, because if you don’t write it in your schedule it might not, actually, it probably won’t happen. And, if you can workout first thing in the morning that is usually best, because then you have it done for the day. But, if you can’t do it first thing, then put it into your daily planner because it needs to happen just like any other event you do during the day, such as brushing your teeth.

3. Move. Some days you might not feel like working out. But, if you just tell yourself to get up and move for only 5 minutes, you’ll often find you can keep going and before you know it you’ve logged in your 30 minutes for the day.

4. Keep it real. Don’t aim for 1-2 hour workouts. High intensity 30-minute workouts can get you the results you want. Aim to break a sweat 30-minutes a day and you’ll be doing your health and waistline a huge favor. Also, remember that what you eat is 80% of your results so eat a fresh, whole foods diet 80% of the time.

If you can follow these 4 tips and embrace fitness as part of a long term lifestyle, and not have an “all or nothing” viewpoint, then you will find you can get fit in 2015! Disclaimer: These are just suggestions, I’m not a doctor or health specialist.

How to Prolong the Life of Your Carpet

Carpet can cost a pretty penny. It is an investment for you home that you don't want to have to replace until it is absolutely necessary. You spend all that time pooling through selections to choose the right one. You not only pay for the carpet but also for the in-stallation.

You have to wait until the work is done. It's a time and money consuming process that you probably won't want to repeat too often. This is why knowing how to properly care for and maintain your carpet can be an invaluable piece of information for you and the life of your carpet.

Here are a few things that you can do to help maximize the life of your carpet:

1. Clean, Clean, Clean. The easiest and most effective way to care for your carpet is to keep it cleaned. Take off your shoes when walking on the carpet. Wearing socks or soft slippers is actually better than going barefoot. When barefoot, oils from your feet can find its way into your carpet and attract more dirt later. Also, vacuum regularly. If you can do it every day or two, fantastic. But realistically if you can vacuum at least once to twice a week you should be good. Remember to keep your vacuum cleaner in tiptop condition also. Empty the bag when it is half full and your canister before each vacuuming. Check the belt for cracks, tears, or worn areas. Make sure the tubes are cleared and that everything else is in working order.

2. Be Prepared. Accidents happen, especially if you have children or pets. Al-ways keep your basic carpet cleaning materials somewhere easily accessible. The key to cleaning up any spill or stain is how quickly you can treat it. If you have an incident you want to first extract as much of the material as possible before treating. Use a shop vac or some clean towels with a weight placed on top and absorb as much of the liquid as you can. Make sure you blot at the area rather than rub at it. Rubbing a stain will on-ly make it worse. Do not use too much cleaning agent at once. Try a little at a time and repeat the process until the spot is gone.

3. Hire a Professional. Carpet experts recommend you hire a professional carpet cleaner at least once to twice a year to clean your carpet. It's just like going to the den-tist. You brush your teeth everyday but once or twice a year you get a good profession-al cleaning. The same goes for your carpet. Having a professional give your carpet a good once over will give it that deep, thorough clean that will help rejuvenate it. Plus it makes your routine maintenance much easier.

Keeping your carpets looking their best and keeping them healthy are both part of the same process. Follow these simple steps and your carpet should look fantastic and last for a very long time.

*** Take advantage of our carpet cleaning special. Now is really a good time to clean...just call by February 28th and get free spot and spill removal until March 31st 2015 (Some exclusions apply)

Call us today for an estimate at 338-9017.

February 7-14 Is Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Week…Here Is How You Can Help…

Did you know that Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) are America’s, actually the world’s, #1 birth defect? In fact, nearly 1 out of every 100 babies born has a CHD*, and it’s the leading cause of all infant deaths in the US. Those are sobering statistics.

The effects of a CHD are far reaching and the family of a child with CHD is never the same. The trauma of the reality of the diagnoses, along with the costly and anguishing medical procedures, takes a toll on the family in ways only those closest to them can know. And with statistics for many CHD’s such as, “50% survival rate into adulthood,” you are adding another layer to the disease that deeply affects the emotions of everyone involved.

In February, a month where hearts abound, CHD is being brought to the forefront with CHD Awareness Week Feb 7-14.

How can you help?

CHD needs more money for research and medical advancement. There are many websites you can find that accept donations towards research such as www.littlehearts.org** and www.childrensheartfoundation.org** and many more, including research hospitals.

There are families that enlist for help and support through Facebook and through websites such as www.gofundme.com

There are many families of CHD kids at your local hospitals for long stays that could use encouragement and support from the community. And once they leave the hospital, these same families often still need financial support for ongoing medical costs and could benefit from fundraising campaigns and community backing.

There are so many ways to show your support during this special week for these CHD warriors. These kids and their families are extraordinary and deserve special attention.

*Some of these statistics were found at:

www.childrensheartfoundation.org

**These are just for example purposes only. I’m not endorsing/recommend any charities.

A Chocolate Celebration!

February is a great month for chocolate! In fact, if you Google “how many boxes of chocolate are sold in February” you’ll see estimates as high as 35 million. That’s a lot of chocolate.

Here are two movies that you might want to watch that celebrate the rich, dark goodness of chocolate:

Chocolat – This stunning movie is set in a French village in the mid-20

th

century and it will inspire your spirit and provoke the desire to eat wonderful, wonderful chocolate. Also, it has Johnny Depp.

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory – This whimsical re-make of the classic has it’s bizarre moments, but didn’t the original classic too? It’s a fun movie and kids really love it. And it is full of chocolate. Oh, and it also has Johnny Depp, just not how we are used to seeing him.

So pop a big bowl of popcorn, pour some mugs of steaming hot chocolate, grab yourself some chocolate bars, and celebrate some chocolate tonight.
